We’re so used to seeing before and after body pics, we don’t think twice of them. But the point is, they emphasize the weight loss journey by showing how bad the situation was before. Such transformation pics never tell the whole story and worst, promote one slender type of "after" body.
But one woman decided to put a spin on the traditional before and after approach. Tayler Rayne shared a side-by-side comparison of her body in a bikini before her weight gain and after. “I’m here to love on my girls who gained weight and aren’t really sure how to love themselves,” she said before kicking off a now-viral “Grown woman weight thread.”
Tay, who went from “130 [to] 230” and struggled with confidence, is now busy being happy in her own skin. In no time, she got an overwhelming response from curvy women of all sizes. The thread has received 161.2K likes and 33.4K retweets, showing that feeling beautiful is more about the mind rather than a size.

Bored Panda spoke to Tayler, the woman who kicked off the “grown woman weight” challenge, about learning to love your own body. Tay said that “We have power over our bodies and appearance. I’m not an advocate for an unhealthy lifestyle, I’m just supportive of women and men who have dealt with a sudden change and are struggling to love themselves.”
Tay is convinced we should be able to do whatever we want with our bodies. “Whether we want to lose weight, gain weight, maintain weight, surgery, etc. I am supportive of all things concerning body image because at the end of the day, we have to look at ourselves in the mirror.”
“If you are not happy with what you see, make a change until you are.” But until then, Tay suggests being kind to yourself and practicing positive self-talk.
It doesn’t matter if you’re “fat, skinny, thin, thick, slim, chubby, athletic, someone will always have something to say,” Tay concluded. The 24-year-old learned to “forget about them and go about my business.”

Body dissatisfaction among women of all sizes happens more frequently than we’d like to admit, the Glamour survey suggests. It challenged 300 women of different sizes to take a note of every negative or anxious thought they had about their bodies during the course of one full day.
The result was pretty shocking—a whopping 97% of participants admitted to having at least one moment where they hated their body. It also revealed that, on average, women have 13 negative thoughts concerning their appearance a day.

All these women look absolutely gorgeous with the 'extra' weight. I didn't look near this good after packing on an extra 20+ lbs after baby #2. It all concentrated in my hips and gut. If it would have went to my nonexistent boobs and butt instead, I would have been more than happy to keep it.
It’s no secret that virtually impossible beauty ideals, celebrity culture, and social media all play a tremendous part in the way we see ourselves. In fact, this 2018 research published in Open Science revealed that the way we feel about our bodies also depends on the images we look at.
The research showed that women who viewed healthy and "overweight" models reported feeling more satisfied with their own body size than those who viewed "underweight" models did. Their sense of bodily dissatisfaction stuck around for about 24 hours after the experiment, proving that it just doesn’t go away in a sec.
The focus on our appearances is, in fact, doing more harm than good. Kearney-Cooke, a Cincinnati psychologist who helped to design Glamour’s survey, said that constant negative thoughts can start to linger and become stronger with time. “Neuroscience has shown that whatever you focus on shapes your brain and the neural pathway becomes stronger.” As a result, they become habitual and sooner than you know it, the vicious circle has started.
Even if loving ourselves the way we are is not an easy task, we must remember that most of the dissatisfaction is illusory. Kearney-Cooke gave a genius example of how it works: "Let's say you're in a meeting and you suddenly think, 'Ew, my arms are huge.'”
The psychologist who specializes in body image urges us to think: “Well, you've had those same arms all day. Why are you suddenly feeling bad about them now? Maybe it's because you don't think your professional ideas are being valued or you're not fulfilled in your job. Instead of focusing on the real issue, all you can think of is hating your arms.”
All the most glorious sportswear and never-ending gym sessions won’t change a thing you feel, 'cause the arms aren’t the real problem.
Everyone in the comments needs to chill with the negativity, most of these women have gained just a little bit of weight, which is normal as your metabolism slows with age, there's also pregnancy, etc. They're not killing themselves, this is not what obesity looks like. Very few on the list have gained so much that it would have a serious effect on their health.
Also, some have put on a lot of muscle! Muscle tissue is pretty dense, and adds on weight. Just because you gain some weight doesn't mean you're automatically unhealthy!!

I developed a disability and was put on various meds including anti-depressants. Ballooned! Assumed it was because I was less mobile as nothing else had changed - though I did eat less to try and slow the spread! Stopped taking the anti-depressants over the last couple of years and the weight has fallen off. It was not my diet - it was 100% the anti-depressants. Which was horribly ironic seeing as being fat made me more depressed - though it was more about mobility rather than how it looked.

Loving yourself is taking care of yourself. Of course no need to be ashamed of a weight gain, and no one should feel less confident because of that. But I dont think in this day and age we need an advert to the beauty and positivity of weight gain.
This is about positive mental health, which is VITAL in helping many people to lose the weight seeing as mental illness can cause emotional eating, Obsessive compulsive eating disorder, antidepressants can cause weight gain etc. This isn’t advertising to say come on everyone, put on weight, it’s so great. These posts are important about trying to make people feel better about themselves. It is a first step in the right direction to healthy mental health and better mind frame to improve on things.

Some of these ladies have a dead wrong scale.. No way some of them are over 100kg (220 lbs) and still have ab lines.
The real problem is, height is not considered here. Take a person who's 190cm tall and one who's 160cm. They both weight 80kg. One will be fit, the other will be heavy.

I've been saying that BMI is arbitrary quackery for years. Muscle is heavier than fat and this isn’t taken into account. Based solely on the index, people like The Rock are morbidly obese and he’s an extreme example. Even someone like Brad Pitt is considered obese. It’s laughable.

When I started college (2005) I weighed 132. But during my freshman year, I was raped and the trauma and everything else I went through brought my weight down to 124. I was obsessed with staying that size for years. Blah, just embrace change. Now I weigh 148 and love with.
I've been teased, or offended about my weight my entire life. I first wanted to go on a diet at 8yrs old. Been carrying around those memories. Now that I'm starting to lose weight, it's now so much positivity to go around? I can't win for losing smh.
I'm sorry 300 pounds IS obese, I don't care who you are! Some women yes look even better with a bit more weight, but the 60 and over lbs aren't healthy. As far as the metabolism slowing, true, but I'm 58, and yes I've gained 25 pounds in the last 20 years, but I also quit smoking and went through menopause. Some of these young women really need to watch that gain due to heart disease, high blood pressure and cholesterol issues, especially for African American women. These women are all beautiful and I'm glad they have a positive self esteem, but to say that over 200 on some of these smaller women is healthy and okay is just bad information.
Sorry did I read right that 60lbs and over aren't healthy? Whilst Yes 60lbs is not healthy, it is because the person would be severely anorexic. The ideal weight (according to medical professionals) for women is between 120lbs and 145lbs (55-65kgs) depending on the persons height.

Implying that weight gain is only positive creates a mixed message for the people who've had sobering talks w/ their physician about their weight gains. There's quite a difference between, say, a 5'10 woman going from 150 to 180 lbs. gradually from age 20 - 35, vs., say a 5'2 woman going from 150 to 300 lbs. in just a few years. The problem w/ 'body positivity' is based on two simple premises 1. excessive body fat is very unhealthy, 2. It's generally significantly related to one's overall diet (I mean the nutritional quality & quantity of one's total food intake over days and weeks) and level of physical activity. What follows from premise 2 is that obesity is generally gradually addressable from changes to diet & physical activity. These changes many people badly need to make are often hard to stick w/, BUT doable. But then people see things like this, from non-physicians, and to many it may translates as: don't worry! You're fine! Don't even bother!
I don't know what all the negativity is about, but most of these ladies looked beautiful after the weight gain. This wasn't about celebrating obesity or being unhealthy, it was about being happy with how your body looks no matter what. Some of these women only gained about 20-30 pounds so it's really not that big of a deal. I also noticed that some of them started out a underweight and looked healthier later. I could see you being concerned if they went from being 150 lbs to 500 lbs, but they didn't.
To love yourself does not equal indulging yourself with extra pastries or unhealthy lifestyle. While some weight gain may be inevitable - due to pregnancy or disease - I think it should still be considered a problem that needs to be addressed, and not something to be proud of.

... for a dumb european - how do these translate to kg? I mean ... 100 pounds (which pounds?) seems a pretty low weight for a grown woman, maybe even below the healthy range (which I think shouldn't be seen too restrictive, on both ends), but ... from the pictures and numbers I don't really get it. ... in general - don't give too much about what other people say. You'll find people prefering the higher as well as the lower weight ... and you'll find people who don't judge you by your weight. Those are to be kept! And those are the ones who you can trust when they say they're worried about you (often, this is just judgement in disguise). Or something. I'm 67 kg on 183 cm by now, in case someone cares ... hasn't change much the last five years, and finally, due to aging, I don't have to eat as much as I can to maintain the weight, I can even skip eating for a day due to ... being lazy and tired of side effects (of a f****d up cholecystectomy), I love these skipping days...

Load More Replies...Many of these ladies look sexy in both pics. BUT most of them are still within recommended weight guidelines. Implying that weight gain is only positive creates a mixed message for the people who've had sobering talks w/ their physician about their weight gains. There's quite a difference between, say, a 5'10 woman going from 150 to 180 lbs. gradually from age 20 - 35, vs., say a 5'2 woman going from 150 to 300 lbs. in just a few years. The problem w/ 'body positivity' is based on two simple premises 1. excessive body fat is very unhealthy, 2. It's generally significantly related to one's overall diet (I mean the nutritional quality & quantity of one's total food intake over days and weeks) and level of physical activity. What follows from premise 2 is that obesity is generally gradually addressable from changes to diet & physical activity. These changes many people badly need to make are often hard to stick w/, BUT doable. But then people see things like this, from non-physicians, and to many it may translates as: don't worry! You're fine! Don't even bother!
I don't know what all the negativity is about, but most of these ladies looked beautiful after the weight gain. This wasn't about celebrating obesity or being unhealthy, it was about being happy with how your body looks no matter what. Some of these women only gained about 20-30 pounds so it's really not that big of a deal. I also noticed that some of them started out a underweight and looked healthier later. I could see you being concerned if they went from being 150 lbs to 500 lbs, but they didn't.
To love yourself does not equal indulging yourself with extra pastries or unhealthy lifestyle. While some weight gain may be inevitable - due to pregnancy or disease - I think it should still be considered a problem that needs to be addressed, and not something to be proud of.
It is something for the individual and their DR to address, not some random on the internet or street etc who have no idea of their lifestyle or situation.

Such extremes! Some of the "before" pix were too thin, almost under weight. And some of the "after" pix showed too much weight gain.

Several are over 200 pounds and one over 300 pounds. Obese is way back In their rear view.
