I got jumped on the bus going home while these kids I had never met before shouted about how I "was the white problem". Fast forward 15 years to see/hear a man yelling full voice at my coworker. I got up to put myself between them and the response I got from the coworker was "oh the white guy thinks he needs to step in and control this situation huh?!" The next day, coworker group surrounds my desk while jeering about how I would never know what it was like to be a minority. Funny how I was the only white guy at that company branch and my manager lowkey let me know that the girl who got promoted a month later (same one) was needed on an affirmative action percentile... I quit later that day. I like to think that my experiences have given me some insight into how it feels to be worried about this stuff all the time. On the other hand, I dont see a black person and fear for getting jumped, but it seems like every "woke person" assumes that im a racist because of my skin

Truth. Discrimination has a systemic component. The Man is not oppressing white males. They literally are The Man. For reference see the vast majority of all branches of government and C suite positions

Dear Amy, as a white, male, straight 30ish person of educated parents and a degree myself, I'm the Perfect Privileged Person, I practically embody it. Oh, I was also sexually abused for about 8 years on end as a child by someone in authority, was bullied into the hospital for years, I'm a high-functioning member of the Spectrum, and I have an invisible chronic illness that causes constant pain. And, not surprisingly given the above, I've been severely depressed for years. You can't see any of those, but that doesn't mean I don't also deserve support and a feeling of welcome inan open and tolerant group. "You're a white guy so YOU don't deserve any pity because some other people that look like you are d***s" is EXACTLY the type of mentality that lead to all of the other groups needing help, too. I'm not saying I understand the struggles faced by any of the groups mentioned in the picture. Perhaps just try to be open and accepting of everyone regardless of their color?

Amy was not saying you don't deserve tolerance or support. Amy is saying that being a white male, the most privileged group on earth despite being a minority, means that that PART of you doesn't NEED tolerance or support. I am incredibly sorry that you have had to suffer so much in your life, and I totally empathize with your struggles and have gone through of some of them myself, but none of those struggles have been because you are a white person, straight, or a male. People don't suffer because of those reasons. That's what privilege is. You might have had the shittiest life you've known, and you could have a transgender friend who had a better life, but your life being shitty does not have anything to do with the fact that you are white, straight, or cis.

@Mikey, that you said a group, any group, doesn't need tolerance or support because of their identity is a perfect example of discrimination; that you'd withhold it from a group because of how they identify. You don't combat hate with more hate, and you don't combat discrimination with more discrimination. Love everybody, celebrate differences.

Zero - white people DON'T need tolerance or support because they're white. Men don't need tolerance or support because they're men. They may need it for other reasons, but it's completely unrelated to their race or gender.

@chuck, that is complete and utter crap. Just because you're blind to it doesn't mean it doesn't happen. "Suck it up", "real men don't cry", "he probably deserved it", "your abuse is invalid because you're white or male", "you're invalid because others like you have crapped on the world" and more. The average man can't smile at a random kid without someone side-eyeing him suspiciously. If a man happens to be standing within 10 feet of a woman crying, people assume he's to blame and act accordingly... I've watched it happen and I guarantee at least somebody reading this is wondering what he did. You have generations of men growing up emotionally stunted because the world still shoves the idea they should just be able to take it and doesn't teach them how to deal with those emotions. And now you have people like you who tell them "everybody but you deserves support". That's utterly hypocritical, 100% vile, and only continues the cycle.

Anyway, I would say that there are a few situations where men pushing against social gender norms, even cis white men, do actually need help and support due to being men in situations where they have to fight for their life choices (say, stay at home dads, men seeking treatment for depression) but certainly not to the level of anyone addressed above and only in some very specific situations. Otherwise, yikes, people just can't get that male or white identity are not reasons to need tolerance or support. It's like they think you would also not give tolerance or support to a black man or white woman. Sure, they fit one group but somehow the assumption is the only people who "qualify" for support are poor Black, Asian, Indigenous Gay, Trans, Muslim Women with disabilities, as if you needed to be in every group and not just one group. People need to actually stop and think sometimes.

Balls to you. I'm a mother of 3 white boys, who I'm raising to be the best people they can be. I'm not going to have them invalidated because of the atrocities caused by others. They're not racist, sexist, homophobic or anything else nasty. Keep going this way excluding male children, then you're gonna end with the same problem women faced since the dawn of time. True feminism is equality for all, not crushing one group to raise another.

If any group is being targeted by racism, it's not good. It just keep racism going. The white males that are really fighting racism are being crushed. My husband is a good person but gets depressed when people treat him like a misogynistic white supremist just because of the way he looks. You aren't getting "revenge", you are fueling racism.

Webster - no one is discriminating against white men. This is like lining up homeless people with millionaires and saying "they all deserve food and shelter." Sure, but the homeless people are the ones who don't have it. Fairness isn't always about everything being equal.

the problem is that saying "also men" belittles the issues of the other groups mentioned, as their struggles are simply NOT comparable. no one is saying men cannot experience discrimination, they're merely saying they do not experience *oppression*, and them not being included in a discussion about issues that don't affect them won't kill them. they can go one second without being the centre of attention. it's like hearing someone talking about fruit and interrupting saying "vegetables are important too!" no one is saying they aren't, they're just not the subject of the conversation.

Feminism, by its very definition is about equality for women not all. By teaching your sons respect and a belief in the equality of women, you are doing your feminist duty, which I appreciate.

I will repeat myself: they are not on the sign because they are not discriminated against.

The fact that this argument is happening is proof that they are being discriminated against right here, right now. Not to the extremes other groups have been oppressed, but being excluded because of how they were born is a DEFFINITION of discrimination. If you deny that this is discrimination, you're in the same category as white supremists who think other races aren't as important (aka scum of the earth). Ignoring/denying any kind of discrimination just keeps it going. Discrimination should not exist.

And school grants. I'm not saying whites should get those, just saying they can't.

Have yet to see white males being rejected for any job and I recruit for a FAANG org...they get rejected based on qualifications...ofccp is something many orgs have to comply by and if white males aren't in line with global competition that's on them...not hiring based on race that's an eeoc violation...so no white male/female gets rejected because of their race..

You are very clearly more poorly informed than you should be to be making the argument you are trying to make. I guess you didn't hear about muslims and blacks getting shot in their places of worship the last few years, or the actual lives lost that sparked the Black Lives Matter protests. These are only the most publicized examples but you can look up race based hate crimes and while the a few do happen against whites the system in general overwhelmingly favors whites, still, and that's even the consensus of actual research in the field.

White people don't have problems because they're white, Duarte. They don't experience race-related discrimination. Literally ten minutes of research will give you multiple examples of how people are being oppressed because of their race. You can start with the systemic racism in police departments all over the country and go from there.

I'm not down voting anyone, I'm sticking up for my boys, who, like a lot of male children their age, are being told that their views and opinions don't matter. They are fine boys and have so much to offer society.
