Awesome Neighbours
In an earlier interview, Bored Panda learned about the link between happiness and helping others from Vanessa King, the Head of Psychology at ‘Action for Happiness,’ a movement that aims to create a happier and more caring society. A large part of being happy comes from helping others because we’re a social species and evolved to live in groups. Helping each other out and working together is the “social glue” that helps keep all of us together.

"Participating in group activities and community events makes us happier too. When we do things for others it activates the reward center in the brain, so when we give a gift it feels the same as receiving a gift," King explained to Bored Panda that our own bodies reward us for being social.

A Note Left For A Neighbor
Kindness and altruism don’t require you to be an actual superhero who makes the world a better place in a single swoop. Kindness is most often made up of small steps. And altruism is a habit that you can learn to incorporate into your life bit by bit. Start small because it’s not the size of the deed that matters, it’s the intent.

In 2019, This 15-Year-Old Kid Started To Take Care Of His Elderly Neighbors Every Single Day After They Had Medical Setbacks. God Bless You Romemylion
"You can give money to charity, donate to a food bank, or volunteer your time over Christmas. You can leave a food package or a note for an elderly neighbor. All of these actions help others and boost your own happiness and if we are happier, research shows we are even more likely to help others,” King said.

Our Neighbor Doesn't Have Wi-Fi, So We Talked Her Through Joining Ours. Once On She Received 70 Messages From Her Children Living Overseas
According to King, we shouldn’t stress out about whether or not our kindness is genuine or if we expect something in return at the start. It’s all part of the learning process to grow to expect nothing back. “Maybe at first, you start out doing things to help others only to get attention and praise, but you will find that doing things for others helps you feel good. Once you see the difference you can make in the world and to your own happiness and altruism can grow naturally," she told Bored Panda.
What’s more, King noted that kindness has a ripple effect. People are more likely to be kind when they’ve experienced kindness in return. So a kind neighbor inspires more neighbors to be kind as well.

"There’s an important point too here for people on the receiving end of kindness. If they can, it’s, of course, great to say thank you and add the positive impact it has for you e.g., 'Thank you, It’s great to know that someone cares.' That can really boost the glow for the giver and encourage them to give more," King said that thanking someone can encourage them to be kind in the future as well. So a warm thank-you or an offer of a glass of homemade iced tea goes a long way to making your neighborhood a happier, kinder place.
These Young Guys Saved Their Elderly Neighbor Mr. C From A House Fire
This is Bridgeton. Mr. ‘C’ has lived here for nearly 50 years, and is well known in his neighborhood. Yesterday, unknown to him while he was watching television, this group saw smoke coming from the roof of his house. Rather than ignore it, they were concerned for their neighbor and alerted him. They got Mr. C out of his house while a neighbor climbed out the window with a fire extinguisher and slowed down a burning exhaust fan that was on fire.
It looks like they are going drop a sick album. (All jokes aside, they are really brave men for doing what they did. Great job!)

Load More Replies...When my husband left I had never had to take care of a house on my own before plus five young kids. The house is very old as well and my husband had not upkept it. When my neighbours across the road found out he had left the husband started shoveling my driveway and sidewalk for me during the winter , assisted me with small house repairs, taught me how to unhoook and set up my trailer and is always willing to offer me assistance. I have offered him money numerous times and he refuses. His wife dropped off some extra meat she had in her freezer for us randomly one day and he is currently fixing my lawn mower for me. I am so blessed with these amazing people. Ironically when they first moved in they built a huge privacy fence all around their house and my mom and I commented on what d**k heads these new neighbours must be. (Nothing wrong with a privacy fence but it’s literally surrounded their house and they are a corner lot LOL it was a bit of a stir in a small tiny town lol )

Load More Replies...I love this post! I have lived in this house for 12 years. About 18 months ago, I finally started reaching out to my neighbours, who I didn't even know their names before. I have made some really good friends, and discovered they are all so beautiful and unique. I share some of my extras from my veggie garden and products I make from them and it feels good. I was able to help one when she lost her husband, and I get to feed her tortoises! I have donated beds and other essentials to another who fosters children. And I have a new hero in my next door who is a Firefighter and the friendliest person I have ever met.
These not only brought tears to my eyes, but hope to my heart that kindness is still bigger than hate.
I appreciate and love these posts. Especially in today’s world when it seems like everyone is out for themselves only. Thank you.

This is indeed very wholesome and it shows how kind neighbors can be 😇😊
We moved to a small village last summer. One day we can't start the mower - we tried some half an hour, but it wont work. Our neighbour across the street hear us trying and come to our door with some more people and they fixed it an show us what the problem was. Me and my husband are born in a city, and back there people are not at all that friendly, we love our new neighbours :)
There were so many wonderful, sometimes tearful, articles. Enjoyed & shed a few tears for the great people that pop up when needed & just because they can.
Some people complain that videoing acts of kindness shouldn't be posted, that they're just showing off. I say they are showing the rest of us what unconditional kindness looks like
Lets be clear it's kind people like these that keep civilization going. Nothing else will do it
I live in a retirement village, in the apartment block, we have over 300 residents, houses & apartments. Our oldest inhabitant received a new teapot from her daughter, and knows that I love knitting & crochet, so she asked if I could knit a tea-cosy for her teapot, as she has arthritic fingers. So I looked through my stash of yarns, found a nice double knit canary yellow, and a contrasting thinner yarn, she liked the colours. While searching for the yarn, I found a small brightly-coloured poncho that I don't wear any more, & offered it to her. She'd never heard of a poncho, was so taken with it, that she returned with 2 R50 notes, to spend on myself, I was so taken aback, as I didn't want payment, I'm getting rid of stuff at 79, not collecting more. Now I need to decide what to buy for myself!!! I just like to do things for folk, keeps me busy, & out of mischief!
i loved this.,i was teary all the way through...slowly getting some faith back in humanity...i can say one thing I'm living in the wrong country!
