My Son Always Texts To Say He's On His Way Home. I Open The Door, Letting His 17-Year-Old Cat, And 16-Year-Old Dog Know That He's On His Way. This Is Them Waiting For Him
Thought it was adorable and wanted to share.
Somewhere In Heaven There's A Black And White Dog Taking Care Of Seven Golden Lab Puppies
Daisy the dog lost all seven of her puppies in a barn fire at the end of February, and wasn’t the same afterwards, spending most of her days going to the remains of the barn to look for them. Her owner posted a desperate appeal on Facebook, asking if anyone had puppies she could foster. The next day, an owner of eight orphaned puppies contacted her, and Daisy took to caring for them straight away
No wonder people love animals. There’s plenty of evidence suggesting our adorable critters give us comfort, reduce stress, encourage exercise, and help us forget our everyday troubles. Not to mention that sharing our lives with such great companions makes us feel far less lonely and works miracles for our mental wellbeing.
Today, there are very few things people share in common as much as the love of our four-legged friends. According to a poll by YouGov, 69 percent of American adults have at least one pet in their home, and it seems that dogs, cats, and fish are the most common choice of pets.
Moreover, these animals are extremely cherished by their owners. The vast majority, 88 percent to be exact, see them as members of their family. More than a half of the respondents allow them to sleep in their own beds, plan to buy them holiday presents, and 50 percent revealed letting their pets lick their faces.

When it comes to the main reasons Americans decide to get a furry house friend in the first place, having company, providing a nice home, and hoping they would improve their mental health were some of the top ones. Plus, more than a third mentioned they got a pet because their partner or family member simply wanted one.
While we appreciate the joy animals bring into our lives, we catch ourselves wondering: how did we get the pets we have? Although pets have adjusted to us, our behaviors, and our emotions, it was not always like that.

To find out how the domestication of animals works, we reached out to Lee Dugatkin, Ph.D., an evolutionary biologist and a historian of science at the University of Louisville. "Ever wonder how our ancestors turned wild animals into the pets that play such an important part in our everyday life? An experiment in Russia, now in its 62nd year, is helping us understand," he told Bored Panda.
"In the late 1950s, Dmitry Belyaev, a brilliant Russian geneticist, came up with an idea for how to replay the evolutionary process that led to the domestication of dogs from wolves, but sped up and using foxes instead of wolves," he explained. The experiment that began in 1960 took place in Novosibirsk, the largest city in Siberia.
Dugatkin noted that this groundbreaking project continues to this day "under the watchful guidance of Belyaev’s student, Lyudmila Trut," who recently celebrated her 88th birthday. "Each year, she and her team test hundreds of foxes, selecting only the tamest —the most prosocial toward humans—to parent the next generation."

Dugatkin and Trut tell the whole story of this experiment in their book How to Tame a Fox (and Build a Dog): Visionary Scientists and a Siberian Tale of Jump-Started Evolution, which is full of science, political intrigue, and tales of love. "In a nutshell, what the Russian team has done is create domesticated foxes that will lick your ears and melt your hearts with their devotion and love," he explained.
It's hard to imagine that somewhere in the beautiful yet harsh Siberia, you would be able to find furry foxes that are as friendly as our beloved canines. "Incredibly, even though Lyudmila and her colleagues select the parents of each generation strictly on how behaviorally tame foxes are, their domesticated foxes look eerily like dogs," Dugatkin added. "Within a decade (ten fox generations), some of the foxes had floppy ears and curly tails."
This Mother Cat Has Taken In An Abandoned Baby Possum
My neighbor's black cat had kittens and they found a baby possum on their deck that must have fallen off of its mom. The mama cat took it in as one of her kittens, but she doesn’t understand why this little funny kitten hangs on her all the time. At this point in time we need to be more like the animals, take care of each other in their time of need.
My Foster Dog Had Never Been Indoors Before. This Is Her First Nap, On A Bed, In A Home
Sundae was taken from a dog hoarding situation — one man had 16 dogs (and a deceased dog’s body) in his backyard. The dogs had access only to a junk-filled backyard and a garage for shelter. We’ve had her for about a week and you would never know that she’s never been an indoor dog before. She’s totally potty trained, incredibly gentle and she’s very polite indoors. She loves to sleep as close as possible to me in bed — I think she’s just making up for 8ish years of zero affection.
She's lucky to have found you! Give her hugs from me! I love the senior puppers. I'm getting older and my next adoptions will all be seniors from now forward.
My Dad Was Dealing With A Lot Of Stress, So We Decided To Get Him A Dog To See If It Would Help. Judging By The Cuddle Puddle, Mission Accomplished
"By the end of the second decade, they had mottled fur patterns and dog-like faces and bodies. And these foxes are as good as dogs at following human gaze," the evolutionary biologist said. What makes this experiment particularly fascinating is that domestication of certain animal species took thousands of years, and this experiment managed to have surprising results in just a few decades.

Dugatkin continued: "If all of that were not enough to make us humans fall head-over-heels for these remarkable creatures, they also laugh. Indeed, a number of the vocalizations the domesticated foxes make are more similar to human laughs than the sounds produced by any other species," he told Bored Panda.
He concluded by saying that all of these incredible changes toward a pet-like animal "occurred in mere sixty-plus years. Who knows what changes lay in store as the experiment steams into its seventh decade?"

An Autistic Boy, Who Can't Be Touched, Connects With A Service Dog, As His Mom Bursts Into Tears Of Hope And Joy
I'm not sure why, but people still ask us why we place service dogs with children sometimes. Let me help you understand, from a momma who knows first hand:
See this moment? I've never experienced a moment like this.
This picture was taken near the end of the day after my autistic five-year-old was finally able to sit down with his new Service Dog Tornado. He flew across the entire ocean, stopped in multiple states, and uprooted his entire routine to travel the globe for this. He was so overwhelmed through the day that he had to leave to take a break for a couple hours before he could come back. This boy is the strongest child I have ever met; he has faced countless rude and ignorant adults and children who do not understand him, who have hurt him, and who have not valued him because he is different. This picture captures the face of a mother who saw her child, who she can't hug, wash, dress, snuggle and touch freely lay on his new Service dog of his own free will, with a purposeful unspoken attachment. This is the face of a mom who has seen her son experience countless failed social interactions on the playground in an attempt to have a friend. Any friend. Any kind of connection. She has sat with her son while he has cried at night for months because he has no consistent connections outside of the family no matter how hard he tries and no matter what he works hard on in his Autism therapies. It doesn't transfer to the natural occurring world for him. And now she is sitting behind her son silently watching this moment, with the air sucked from her lungs, and no words to say.
Holding her mouth and silently crying because she doesn't want to distract him from the moment and break him away from a pure, honest, and truly fulfilling moment for her son of his own free will. This is truly magic. Words cannot explain it.
I have cried so many times for this boy, but this is the very first time I have cried for a reason like this.
It's new, it's painful, it's wonderful, and it's grateful. I will always stand behind this boy (probably still crying ) but I am grateful that he will have Tornado to stand beside him. The 4 Paws magic is real. The wait is long, but this moment right here makes it worth every moment of waiting. It's worth every fight for services for my son, every diagnosis, every new provider, every dollar spent, every paper filled out, every school meeting, every shed tear, every step forward, every step back, and every wonder of the unknown future. Somehow because of this- because of Tornado- I know everything will be okay.
I have seen this image so many times - and every time I'm hit with these raw emotions again that you can see in the moms face.
Load More Replies...You, ma'am, are an incredible mother. I am in awe of your strength. Some people (like mine) are simply not cut out to be parents and scar their kids for life. But mums like you...your beautiful, brave boy is a testament to you x
And he’s probably going to be a genius who saves humanity in some form or another in the future, so fn aye fellow momma, you Rock that shyt and keep holding your head up high
Load More Replies...I joke about crying a lot, but the last time I cried was when my puppy of ten years passed on. But this right here, is bringing me some very needed happy tears, bless tornado, bless your boy, and most of all, bless you, the one with the biggest heart.
I can usually hold back tears when reading this kinda stuff but not this time. It's just too much
Cry for the joy and the sorrows. I am glad Tornado is in your life. I have an autistic friend who had no friends. The first time he and his mother came over, my cat introduced herself then fell asleep in his lap.
This should have been at the top! I see the fingerprints of God all over this family.
100% love this! Very similar story with my son who has ASD and his service dog. My heart goes out to you!!!!
Ps - three years later I came home from a very difficult national exam. And my son gave me a hug.
Load More Replies...Often it connecting to animals are much easier than handling the much more complex humans, who can have all sorts of reasons and hidden agendas controling their behavior. Animals are more honest than most humans (and when they lie, it is quite easy to bust them), and they seldom desagree.
I thought people might want to follow up on this amazing trio- the mom, Shanna, runs a fb group called 'Kainaido' (Kai plus Tornado). https://www.facebook.com/groups/kainado/ He's 11 now, and and it's so good to see them happy!
What a beautiful picture. Only the beginning of amazing things to come I hope. God bless.
No it isn't. He's wearing a head collar specifically made for dogs. It fits loosely over his snout and allows whoever is leading him on a leash to have easier control without yanking or pulling on him. It's very similar to the halter you would see on a horse. He can still eat, drink and pant with it on. They are actually gentler and safer than many traditional collars. It would allow his new little guy to easily direct him without having much upper body strength.
Load More Replies...Tears are covering my keyboard as I type this. Because I too am in a similar situation. My son is now 27 years old and it feels like yesterday we were struggling through these difficulties. Over the years, our service dogs have literally saved our lives. Thank you for sharing your story. Wishing many happy years ahead for you and your son.
Dogs can help a lot of mental problems. They instinctively know what to do.
This literally has to be one of the top moments in this Mothers life. This sweet boy's life too.
Brilliant piece, this. May all the blessings of Our Lord Jesus Christ be upon you and yours, today and always.
I'm crying because therapists have failed this woman so much for so long it infuriates me!
As the mother of an autistic child - a mother who is crying empathetic tears right now - I know all of her hope and joy.
I burst into tears at this one. My son has severe autism and I've had moments like this, too.
It will be more than OK. It will be wonderfull! The first day of the rest of your happy and beautiful lives.
Speechless😢. 🙏🌷🌷🌷 for this incredible mom🦸❤️ and wonderful Tornado 🦸💗
This article bought back so many wonderful memories of the children and parents that I worked with as an Educator. Anyone who wants information should contact Autism Speaks, they can provide a great deal of valuable information and resources. I still use some of their resources from time to time in my private business.
I am a special education teacher, and this is so moving to me even though I already knew the power of the dog's love
Is it just the dogs skin or does dog have something around its muzzle
I didn't like hugs for a while. Still sometimes don't :) but I found other forms of touch easier. My family and I give "arm pats." Some people with autism never have a problem with touch, whereas some do and can never handle it. Either way, there are work-arounds... No judgement, either way.
You are an amazing mom. Looks like your son will have happier days going forward. You must get your strength from the Lord. God bless all 3 of you.
ONG as i wipe away my tears god bless mom let nature be th guide in this fantastic relationship
What a moving story. Isn't it interesting that humans often don't understand even with words and animals usually understand without any.. God Bless you all.
This fills my heart with joy. As a special education teacher I can say autistic children are so misunderstood. Working with them brings me joy.
This is so Beautiful! I have a nephew with autism and he's a intelligent Sweet and beautiful little boy.
This is beautiful in every way. What a gracious and wonderful person his mama is. I couldn't love this any more than I could stop crying right now.
This is when the onion ninjas got me, I think this should be much higher on the list and I’m so so happy for the young boy
Dogs are like the boy too, some don't want to be touched. One needs to respect other people & dogs what their desires are from their own.
Must be more than difficult for the mom. If he can't be touched how does she deal with things like getting dressed
He can probably do it himself. He looks old enough to dress himself, and autistic kids aren't poor innocent babies who need help with everything (/nm)
Load More Replies...Why are dogs such magic? They communicate in ways that we cannot and cross barriers that we simply don't understand. They deserve our praise, protection and love. They give us so much more than we can ever give back.....but we can try.
I actually saw this story on Facebook for the first time what a great ending
Upon seeing the picture for the first time without seeing the caption, I thought the dog was being put down and the kid didn't care while the mum was sobbing in the background. I'm so glad the truth is much better lol
Dogs have a healing affect. Your son knew right off he could trust his 4 buddy.
This makes me.cry happy tears for you. I am the same. My 11 year old non verbal autistic daughter will barely let us touch her. I don't get hugs or hear I love you mom my closest now is if I ask for a lis she will show me her forehead and I'm allowed to place a quick peck there. Took 4 of us an hour to get her hair cut tonight, she does not allow head touches lol so I guess the 1time a month forehead peck is really something special with the two of us but it's so hard. I am so happy you have this blessing for your son.
We've had problems, depression, cerebral palsy, severe asthma; but you and your family are carrying a much heavier load. You all have our prayers, including the magical pup.
What a beautiful moment for your perfect and deserving boy! Thank you for sharing it. We've had relatable challenges. Your strength is evident and I'm so proud of you- mom power!! If its appropriate tell him his newest friend David thinks his dog is super cool!
Oh my dear! Hope he will enjoy every moment with this adorable Tornado and able to grow into a stronger boy, to adapt the journey of life in this wonderful world
I am sobbing uncontrollably because the pain & heartache that you feel for your child is so deep. My son has never fit in with his peers but I was able to hug him & tell him it will be all right. I always tell him he was made for a very specific reason even if he didn't know exactly why yet. But as a mother you want your child to have that one person that bonds with them & accept each others differences without judgement. Your son looks so embraced by a peacefulness that he is truly worthy of. What I see is a Miracle & that gives me hope! Thank you for sharing a profound moment of such a personal nature.
Wonderful dog to be with your son like this. Or better yet, kind hearted son of yrs to with a dog as this❤💕❤GOD shall BLESS You and ur son in many ways to come in your Lives together. AMEN
I can do without most people, especially thoughtless ones. But without dogs? Never!
Beautiful! I have two special needs children and this is priceless. Crying joyful tears for you and your family! God Bless!
Pure love...on so many levels❤️ I work with kids on the spectrum and fully feel the emotional impact of this photo. I believe I live next to an onion field...😭
This not only pulls on your HEARTstrings with BOTH hands, it also brings one's soul to hit a chord or two !
The love on this moms face is so pure. He finally found his connection, and it has been beautifully captured in this photo. ❣️❣️
Bawled through the entire explanation..what an amazing moment for child, momma and dog..
Your story was very beautifully written. If you aren't a writer you should be. As closely as I can, I feel your journey on a river of tears.
Had to stop reading at one point because the tears made it hard to see. This just got me right in the heart. My niece has special needs and has a service dog. Her situation is not the same as this boy's but there are very similar sentiments here. I've seen firsthand what something like this can be like and it's heartbreaking, joyful, beautiful and overwhelming, all at once. So happy for this boy and mom. And the dog!
The air filter is working, the floors were vacuumed on Monday and somehow the onion ninjas got in. This is so heartwarming. My own doggos are wondering why I am tearing up.
I find Autistic persons are the norm and the rest of us are disabled. We comply with restrictions that some higher power has inflicted on us. Autistic persons never do. This affiliation with an animal is perfectly normal to them.....why wouldnt it be, in preference to another human? Think back to the beginning of time, humans were individuals, they touched only for procreation and didnt understand why it happened, natural instinct. Until large groups formed and societies/rules were introduced I would say that everyone was Autistic. They live by logic and get their name because they dont do what the rest of us do because they see no actual need for it. Love them all for their independent thought process.
Beautiful! However I think it's very cruel when people have a strap/harness around their dog's mouth. They don't realize dogs do not breathe like we do. Dogs need their mouths open and not constricted like that. :(
See my comment above. It doesn’t restrict his breathing, panting or eating/drinking

This is lovely but it hurts. A few months ago I had to temporarily leave my dog with my sister for work (military). She shared that he waited for me all night to come home. A few months later he died quite suddenly. I'm not able to grieve properly because I'm so far away. I'm better than I was but I miss him so much.
