When These Home Owners Refused To Sell, These Pictures Say What Happened Next.

Remembering the age of some houses I saw at Ikeja, Lagos state once, it’s evident that a times no matter how much you offer some home owners, they won’t just move away from their houses even if it’s for the greater good of the city. Call it “sentimental value”, even if a road or a hospital was to pass through where their house is and serve the greater good, these home owners below really do not care.

Take in China for example. In a situation whereby a home owner doesn’t wish to sell to a developer, the person’s house is referred to by the term a “Nail house” . The developers move on and acquire property around the neighborhood of the person who refuses to sell and the result over the years eventually resembles a scenario where the home owner and his house seem to have been left in the stone age while civilization moved onwards.

It would resemble something like this…

In Guangzhou, China, there’s a place called the “Ring road” and it’s called this because a family refused to move from a block of flats so the Chinese government had to build a road that circles like a ring around the block.

This next house exists in the middle of a road being built in nanning in Guangxi Zhuang, China. Talk about coming through the bend and suddenly hitting the brakes because some over sentimental home owners refused to sell.

Two more nail houses built in the middle of the road in Wenling, Zhejiang province and Luoyang, Henan province, China are this…

This next guy despite an estate of luxury villas being built around his house, he still refused to give in. Although, you have to admire the lush green vegetation round about him…

I know some of you are thinking right now, “Why didn’t the government just forcefully take it from them and demolish?” But while that’s way easier, that’s not how they do things in some parts of the world.

Take for instance,in a place in Owerri in Imo State, Nigeria, the Governor said that there would be no compensation for those whose shops and homes were affected in the ongoing road construction.

If the home owners had these homes in Nigeria, the government would have bulldozed them long time ago.

It's amazing to me that the city built around them; in most places, they'd just take ownership of the property and demolish it.

I guess China probably isn't like that. In my country the government would have taken it by force.
