Many internet users call Australia the land of the 'NOPE'. But it's so much more than that. Just take a look at the country's subreddit and you'll see what it has to offer.
Physics teachers defending their houses from bushfires? Check. Sexy calendars? Check. Public bike repair stations? You bet. The members of this sub share pictures of pretty much everything that makes Australia the unique patch of land that it is.
Tony Abbott, a former politician who served as the Prime Minister of Australia, has said that "Once people come to Australia, they join the team." So since traveling in real life is still tricky, join Bored Panda on a voyage to the biggest Aussie subreddit on the internet.

Interestingly, Australia is considered the second driest continent after Antarctica. When you look at the busy Sydney harbor or the impressive skyline of metropolitan Melbourne, it seems almost unbelievable that nearly 40% of the continent is uninhabitable.
The lack of rainfall is one of the main reasons why such a huge amount of its landmass is so desolate. The national precipitation for 2020 was 483.4mm (19 inches). For comparison, even California gets about 563mm (22 inches) of rainfall every year.
This arid, uninhabitable part of Australia lies in the middle of the continent (the Outback), away from the coastline. And this is also the reason why more than 80% of the country’s population lives within 50 kilometers (31 miles) from the coast.

Aboriginal Australians first arrived at the Land Down Under from Maritime Southeast Asia sometime between 50,000 and 65,000 years ago. From the rainforests in the north, the deserts in the center, and the sub-Antarctic islands of Tasmania and Bass Strait, they penetrated to all parts of the continent.
In fact, the artistic, musical, and spiritual customs they've created are among the longest surviving such traditions in human history.

The first documented visit to Australia by a European was in 1606. The Dutch explorer Willem Janszoon landed on the western side of Cape York Peninsula and charted about 300 km (186 miles) of coastline.
There are claims of earlier landings by the Portuguese, Spanish, Chinese, Arabs, and Romans, but there is little credible documented evidence.

Load More Replies...Aww, babies! Just slowly slide a playing card under the glass, and put them all outside, where they can do their jobs.
You're very nice because I would have soaked card, paper, whatever I was using with something toxic to them, then slid it under cup. I agree spiders are great at pest control outside. Inside, they are the pests. It unbelievable how fast people can be while making wild contortions if they happen to walk through a spider web!! I live on west coast USA, couple of really toxic spiders here, but most just garden spiders. They are all over outside in my yard. So intriguing to examine their intricate webs. I refuse to use insecticide because outside is insects domain. So not spider hater, just prefer them outside.
Load More Replies...Just how strong is the spider? Are you sure you don't need a housebrick as well, you know, just to be sure.
Yes Robert T, I so agree with you! It looks pretty strong to me.
Load More Replies...3 seconds after seeing this in my house I would have come to terms with being homeless . It can have my car as well. And my kids.
Heck, no. It needs a very, very large rock on top.
Load More Replies...That's terrible trapping a single mother with all her kids... her many many kids
Um, covid lockdown? Lol if the government can do it to us, we can do it to a spider lol
Load More Replies...I like spiders. I save spiders. I'm still leaving that glass there forever.
oml,you didn't lift the cup right!? If they were the only cups left go buy more cups and buy a new house and take everything you have make sure there is nothing on it!
Yes, and if no one lets these poor little things out they'll be forced to eat each other.
Load More Replies...Awful comments here. People can be so caring towards cute animals and hate the others, just because they look different. Nobody even knows whether this is an actual dangerous (for humans) spider, and still they are ready to suffocate, burn, kill, etc. Imagine they were kittens, that grow up to be very consuming predators, and people talked like that. No upvotes from me.
Looks like a Wolf Spider--Wolf spiders ...venomous but non-aggressive Area of distribution: Australia-wide. Venom toxicity: The bite of the Wolf Spider is poisonous but not lethal. Although non-aggressive, they will bite if provoked and should be considered dangerous to humans. Painful bite: The bite may be very painful. Immediate first aid and medical attention, particularly as to children or the elderly. Spider Identification: The adult Wolf spider is 15 mm to 30 mm in body length; of mottled grey to brown in colour, with a distinct Union Jack impression on it's back. The female Wolf spider carries it's young on it's back. Habitat: The Wolf spider is a ground dweller, with a burrow retreat. This spider has a roving nocturnal lifestyle to hunt their prey and can move very rapidly when disturbed. Commonly found around the home, in garden areas with a silk lined burrow, sometimes with a lid or covered by leaf litter or grass woven with silk as a fence around the rim of the burrow.
No reason to kill her and her babies. Just slide heavy paper (photo paper weight) carefully under mom. Jiggle a little and the babies will climb back onto her back. Tote them outdoors and release them to hunt the pests they prey on.
Load More Replies...Yeah, I live with a very touchy grabby two year old. I hope they called a professional or something.
All fun n games till someone opens the door . Let the poor things out . You have no right doing this , it’s cruel. Although I’m saying this from the comfort of my bed thousands of miles away 😛
I feel both bad for momma spider, but also feel, "KILL IT WITH FIRE!"
I think you just found the golden middle of everyone's sentiments on this post. 😂
Load More Replies...When she get hungry she will eat her children. Slide a sheet of paper under the spiders and then slide a piece of cardboard under the paper holding glass down so they won't escape. Lift and take them out far far far away. Or just feed them to a lizard.
May God bless the spiders of Australia, and keep them.....far, far away from me.
It looks like it's a Huntsman, if so these are fantastic spiders to have in the house. They don't spin webs and they hunt other spiders and insects.
I'm not a spider expert, so I don't know if these critters are poisonous. However, after trapping insects in this manner, I slide a stiff piece of plastic or paper under, carry the whole thing to the window, and bye, bye.
Hello darkness my old friend….. lol.. I’d grab a thing of flammable liquid and pour it everywhere light it and lift the cup. Nice crackling sounds will Insue. Just lookout for the giant flammable spider running at you.. the rest should crackle nicely in the fire.. maybe a pint of 100% alcohol will do.
the land where everything that walk, swim or crawl want to kill you
Nope! Gonna run a line of caulk around that glass and it's gonna stay there until those critters turn to stone!
Vacuume at the ready, check... power on, check... lifts glass swiftly and instantly sucks spiders into water/insecticide-filled base of my Rainbow Vacuume cleaner= dead spiders and a job well done
I caught a spider once that had a weirdly lumpy back. Upon closer inspection, I threw that thing outside as fast as I could!
...I had to come to the comments to see what made this picture special. 🤦🏼♀️ Didn't even see the freaking spider because I thought the joke had something to do with the letters on the cups. Oops.
Right before leaving for the Melbourne airport, one of these pops out in our rental to wish us g'day. Eek!
This reminds me of a YouTube video I saw a while back... some guy tried to smash a wolf spider with a broom and - clearly he didn't look too close - as the brood of baby spiders she was carrying on her back suddenly dispersed in every direction when he whacked at the thing. I about died laughing when his "one" problem suddenly became a hundred.
Slide a piece of card, like a postcard, under the glass, then carry the card, insect, glass etc outside, remove the card and you're fixed.
HOLD ON! Are those baby spiders in there with the big one? The only solution is to burn the house down and start from scratch. Sorry for the harsh truth but someone had to tell you.
Yes, they were riding around on her back when they were trapped & jumped off because of the disturbance.
Load More Replies...The babies were riding on her back, many animals do this.
Load More Replies...I would be just be finishing up pouring gasoline around the perimeter of the house and about to ignite the blow-torch.
Actually, yeah, get some thin cardstock and the caulk, slide the card under, caulk all around, wait a few minutes and take the whole shebang way far away from the house and let them all go. Don't forget to throw out those cups!
Load More Replies...I would set everything on fire. Including myself. Gotta play it safe when it comes to spiders. :P

Australia is such a wonderful country, I implore everyone to visit once Covid wraps up
It is an incredible place - my now husband and I travelled from UK and went on a road trip from Sydney to Melbourne in 2016. It is an incredible place, and I have many happy memories I treasure. The blue mountains in particular are very special. I kinda hope not too many people go there to help protect it from the idiots who don't respect the rules/ barriers, etc.
Load More Replies...I'm not frightened of any animals, but the problem is, in Australia, so many of them are dangerous and you just have no idea which ones, so you view all creatures with a good degree of caution.
Seriously, I've been here 50 years and can count on one hand how many dangerous animals and insects I,'ve come across. Only real freak was one huntsman the size of my hand. Had to drive 10kms before I cut it loose. I was actually paranoid it could find it's way back even then.
