I am a Berlin based artist, illustrator and storyteller. After having worked for twenty years with the artisans and people of Kutch, a semi-arid region in west India known for its crafts, I recently did this series of watercolour illustrations where I have tried to reflect that I see the crafts, the communities and the landscape as one entity.
The people in this region and their beautiful crafts stand in stark contrast to the vast barren landscapes and have served as food to my gypsy soul for many years. The series looks at weaving all my experiences together as single fabric pieces.
I painted these images like a weaver would weave a piece of fabric on a hand operated loom, where the paper became the warp and the watercolour lines served as the weft.
