My husband and I just spent 5 months volunteering around South America. We volunteered in 4 different organizations from Costa Rica, to Ecuador, and Brazil. We saw so many incredible things every single day, it really blew my mind!
I have always loved animals and I knew there was amazing biodiversity in the world, but getting to experience it first hand was such an incredible experience! On an almost daily basis, I would exclaim "Oh my goodness!" out of shock and excitement at what incredible things I had stumbled upon in the jungle! I have been recording videos throughout our whole trip, and you can see them on my Youtube channel below.

i think they're called bullet ant because their stings hurt like if you've been shot
Yep. There is also a tribe who puts them into gloves made from leaves and then the men have to wear them and dance. Their hands swell up and are unusable for days. The pain is so severe some try to chop off their hands. And they have to do this on several occasions during their lifetime. Some sort of "proof your masculinity" thing.
Load More Replies...Once I went to Costa Rica and went through the rain forest on a guided tour and before we got too far into it, I was leaning against the railing and looked to my left just in time to see a bullet ant getting ready to crawl into my hand! The tour guide said those are the only bugs he was afraid of. On another note, that same tour guide had a good laugh at my expense the entire tour because every freaking bug in the rain forest decided it was a fine day to go human chasing and you can guess who their target was. The entire tour I spent running from bugs. Just me. No one else...
Now that I see these I'm just glad I have millimeter-long to centimeter-long ants in my house instead of two-inch ones that sting..
