Nobody said being vegan is easy; it takes a certain level of self-control and preparation to live up to your ideals. One accusation that is often leveled at vegans is the way veganism converts eulogize about the benefits of their dietary choice, while most of the time scolding others for their 'unorthodox' meat-eating decisions. While it usually comes from the right place, wanting others to feel as good about themselves as the vegans do, it can be a bit grating for meat or dairy eaters who just aren't interested in the whole vegan diet thing.
Surely there's a more natural way to spread the message of vegan food goodness? One that's unpretentious, self-deprecating and easily digested? Why yes, vegan memes of course! We here at Bored Panda have collected the best memes that vegans can seriously relate to, and maybe even pass on a few to their friends who don't get it yet. I told my mother-in-law the new vegan dish I created and she just rolled her eyes. When I asked what that was about, she responded with a joke about how there was no meat in it, how could it possibly taste good. That's when I dropped the bombshell of the Chocolate Latte Cake I made for Christmas that she scarfed down...totally vegan..and Gluten Free. "Did it taste good?" She got quiet. I told her "We aren't doing vegan for the sake of the animals. We are doing it because our health was so bad, we needed a different way to eat so we wouldn't die. Do you think that's funny?" She apologized. After that..she gave us nothing but support and even started learning how to cook vegan.

I think this picture illustrates many of the misunderstanding between vegans and the non-vegans. Vegan food is more than a meat-dish bereaved of animal products. Anyone claiming that vegan food cannot be tasty and healthy (regardless of continuing to eat meat or not) either has not experiences well-prepared vegan food or is simply closed-minded.

I enjoy eating meat, not everyday of course, but I don't want to become vegan. I understand that other people want to be vegans, but I hate it when they lecture me about meat eating and try to convert me. I leave you alone, why can't you??
Moral superiority. The overly vocal ones are those who think they're better than you because of how they live their lives. Most vegans, vegetarians, and meat eaters just want to quietly get on with their lives, but it's the nasty, arrogant ones you hear the most.
Load More Replies...I don’t care if you’re vegan. I don’t care if you tell me you’re vegan. I will never tell you to eat animal products. But the second you tell me why I SHOULD be a vegan, we have a problem. I don’t believe many vegans fall into the stereotypical “militant aggressive” type, but those that do ruin it for other vegans. Same as meat eaters.... we’re not all jerks about it, but those that are ruin it...
Like the people who are so anti-vegan they go like "F**K YOU I'M GOING TO EAT ONLY MEAT"? I don't think anyone should be reactionary like that, but you REALLY shouldn't have a reactionary DIET!
Load More Replies...Being a vegan is like belonging to a particular religion, it's your choice and it suits you. Problems arise if you become militant and try to force it onto others who have other views.
if you think meat and dairy called suffering, environmental degradation, it’s important to educate others
Load More Replies...It's hilarious to me, that people try to argue with vegans, or anyone that eats differently for that matter. I mean, why do you even care?! Mind your own business...
The more abusive and defensive commentary I see from meat eaters who appear to be compelled to make anti-vegan commentary, the more I get the impression that they think they’re at risk. Access to their preferences are seemingly at risk, or their sense of being “normal” is at risk. It’s the frail ego of some people in the majority.
Load More Replies...I haven't ate pork or beef for 25+ years/poultry for almost 3 years. Works for me. What doesn't work for me is people questioning and mocking my love and respect for animals. The very fact that animals have to be rescued and need sanctuary from the exploitation industries tells me that something is truly wrong with our food system. I am not saying that you shouldn't eat meat -- do what works for you -- but simply that if folks actually thought about where that meat comes from, what the animal is put through so you can have that meat to eat maybe you wouldn't eat as much of it. Also the environmental impact of raising meat & poultry for human consumption is staggering. Finally if you are a meat eater and you write down every meal you eat during a 7 day period I bet you will be surprised at how much meat you DON'T eat. No matter how much you love bacon or steak or burgers....I bet the majority of meat eaters don't eat these items every single day for every single meal.
Absolutely! I eat meat, but I've cut down on it and try to get it sourced responsibly. I'm a big fan of groups like "Compassion in World Farming". I don't think, as omnivores, that there's anything inherently wrong with us eating meat, but keeping prey animals under torturous conditions like in factory farms is needlessly cruel and just feeds the over-abundance of wasted food in many developed countries.
Load More Replies...Thank you for demonstrating the meat-eating version of the so-called “vegan a*****e”.
Load More Replies...The one thing I get confused by about vegans is "Why are WE not allowed to eat meat but other omnivores and carnivores can?" I'm entirely in favour of eating less meat than is common in most western countries and I support humane and responsible farming to lessen environmental impact, but I don't feel like I have a personal ethical issue with the simple idea of "eating a living animal" if you remove the rest of the baggage of unethical farming. Like, is there something wrong with eating a deer killed in order to cull the local population so that they don't overwhelm the plant life? (Happens around where I live in Ontario.) Or is that just "bad because killing is bad"? Certainly different vegans have different opinions on this sort of thing, but I don't think I've ever thought to ask someone in person.
Just my point of view as far as your question about why can't we (humans) eat meat, but other omnivores and carnivores can - the difference between humans and say lions or tigers, is the fact that humans can grow plants and have the capability to eat vegan, but other animals do not. I have cats, and even though I'm a vegan, I feed them (nonvegan) cat food, because I realize that cats need meat. But I'm not a cat, and I don't need meat - so I see it as my responsibility to not eat it because I'm a human, and humans are capable of making these decisions whereas animals are not. I'm not one of those people who think animals are equal to humans - I recognize that humans are in some ways more evolved, so I think because humans are superior in some ways we're held to a higher standard. It always confuses me when people will make both the "we can eat animals because they're just animals and not the same as humans" AND the "well, carnivores eat meat, so why can't I" arguments.
Load More Replies...Being a vegan kind of seems like some fundamental religion to me if I judge it by the obsessive nature of it and the need for it's adherents to almost forcefully try to convert others to their way of thinking. Or maybe I only have ever met members of the hateful and screaming radicalised subset of bit.
The noisy part of any group of humans gets all the attention.
Load More Replies...There are many entries concerning meat so just to clear it up: vegetarians don't eat meat; vegans don't consume any animal products and yes for many of them it's a whole ideology and philosophy about being a vegan and it's not just about food but also clothing, beauty products etc. (some people in the UK protested banknotes being made using tallow made from animal fat in the production for example) BTW: I'm not even a vegetarian (I sometimes still eat meat, although very rarely), I just feel like many people don't know the difference and I like to share my knowledge :)
I can kind of understand vegetarians, but vegans... What's wrong with eating eggs and cheese or drinking milk? You don't have to kill the chicken to get eggs or the cow to get milk. They just want to be special and will tell everyone they are vegans constantly. I'm an orthodox christian but I don't go screaming about it in people's faces every five minutes.
Load More Replies...Not hilarious at all... maybe cause I'm not vegan I don't know...
Some of these are like "Yeah, I get it, you have your fun", but others are SUPER twatty and self-righteous, like being vegan makes you SO PERFECT and there are NO arguments that make veganism look bad.
I agree, there are plenty of arguments against veganism. But lot of them just refuse to acknowledge that.
Load More Replies...I had vegan meat a couple of times, because of my vegan friend, and let me tell you, it was delicious! I'm not even vegetarian!
I say credit to the vegans for sticking to their food solutions. I say boo to pushing their agenda every chance they have. I also say each to their own.
People will think that trying to sway you to their way of life by lecturing you is not bullying are bullies. Keep your face out of my plate and we can peacefully coexist. We make our own choices in this life, being snarky or mean to me will not change my choices.
I love bored panda but over the years its become more click bait and sympathy/misguided attention getting articles. This one seems like a space filler for the site. Load More Replies...honestly, I love people that go vegan, I wish I had the strength to give up all animal products. Ihave heard of vegan meat that tastes and looks like meat and I would love to eat that instead of meat, especially cow meat because it really harms the environment so I would be able to go vegetarian but not vegan because I love ilk and cheese + almond milk actually harms the environment according to my mother, but if that's wrong I would love to hear what it can help with. And some of the cheese tastes weird but if there's a kind of vegan cheese that tastes like cheese I would love to try it. C:
I had a vegan roommate in college and at first I busted his balls over it, but later I really appreciated the struggle he went through. Doesn't change the fact I think it's overboard, but I definitely understand how it's not a diet it's a lifestyle... Especially when you realize you can't wear leather.
The amount of hate and anger directed at vegans is somewhat frightening to me. I expected this comments thread to be all about spewing anti-vegan attitudes (promoting the “vegans are a******s” myth, for example). I can stomach wading through only so much of that kind of c**p before I give up trying to even participate at all.
If you really want to do away with cruel factory farm practices, do everything you can to prevent poverty, to ensure a good jobs market. When people have choices, they are more likely to quite working at the slaughterhouse because of the cruel practices. The farms have to either pay way too high a price, or they change their ways. So, to prevent cruelty to animals: Support public schools (don't send your kids to private schools or if you do, don't cheat the system by accepting a voucher). Support candidates who use tax money for keeping people out of poverty, rather than making rich people richer. Support candidates who don't make laws restricting people from voting. And by all means, do what you can to get your local elections to use ranked-choice voting. The idea may spread from the bottom up. When I've seen videos of horrendous treatment of animals at factory farms, I just have to ask, how can those people working there do those things? It's people doing it.
I've seen more meat eaters trying to convert others to their lifestyle and bully vegans than I have seen vegans try to convert others and bully meat eaters.
I really want to go vegetarian, but last time I tried I lost a lot of weight and didn’t get enough protein/iron so for now I’m stuck eating meat. I did, however decide that the only way to responsibly eat eggs was to have my own chickens! This one person went over to my house and started talking about how stupid they are and how much he enjoys eating them to annoy me, so I promptly showed him all the tricks I’ve taught them (they’ve picked up more than my dog!)
If anyone’s interested, I’ve taught them to come when called, jump up on command, and jump on and off a tree stump. Chickens have over 30 vocalizations they use to communicate with others and recognize over 100 other chicken, duck, (and although this isn’t yet proven I bet human) faces. They actually make really great pets and it’s so great to get your own eggs.
Load More Replies...I'm seriously of doing a small comic of a vegan with dogs and cats on one side and farm animals on the other asking "Why is it okay to eat farm animals and not dogs and cats? ALL animals deserve to live!" in one panel and then the next shows the same vegan standing in front of a plow and talking to the field animals and telling them "Sorry little guys, but we must sacrifice you for our diet so that we can save the farm animals. I'm sure you understand".
OMG, seriously. You use far less land to feed humans plant based crops than feeding animals the crops to then feed humans their meat. So this helps use less land, you know this right? You can't live without death either. Every day I drive a car that kills bugs on my windshield and I walk around and stand on ants/spiders etc. You can only do so much. Going vegan is a massive help to the planet and the animals. There is no comeback to a vegan argument I'm afraid. I tried for years before I finally listened and realised that continuing to eat meat and dairy was selfish and I was being stubborn. All the arguments that I came back with to continue consuming meat/dariy had good solid logical answers (when I actually listened).

Most vegans are anti-violence, anti-specism. So I understand why some will shout about the violence/murder of animals with feelings and emotions (with hearts and brains; when did plants have these?... people must have skipped some Biology classes haha!). People will love their dogs but want no harm to them. If someone harmed/killed their dog (or even a wild animal) they would call the police and media. That murderer is called psychotic. Somehow killing pigs, cows, chickens... isn't murder to the uneducated. Would you tolerate murder? Non-black people are at BLM protests/advising everyone not to be racist. Vegans are protesting/advising people not to be part of animal abuse/murder. Personally, there is no point lecturing those with willful ignorance, only empaths will understand.
always "what if" with you damn vegans. Instead of your demented fantasies, why don't you try living in the present and deal with reality. And you need to realize who is in the majority, was and always will be- meat eaters-the U.S. ratio is 200-1. You can't and won't win. But thanks for playing.
Load More Replies...White privilege at its finest! Seriously it seems like it's always white people telling people how to live their lives. Saying there not racist while making extremely racist comments like that. Have fun killing plants.
I like meat. Period. Gonna have some porkbutts and taters right now :)
If defending animals and the planet because they need our help is preachy, nasty, superior etc. etc. to you then I think you need to ask yourselves why you think it is. Do you really think we're bothered about name calling when we're so superior lol...we're defending the voiceless and we always will. 3 or 4 years ago I was stubborn about eating meat and dairy and wouldn't listen either. Eventually with help from my wife I cut out dairy and shed my body fat pretty quickly and felt a lot better. I cut down to one meal of meat a week and then eventually just stopped altogether once I saw the suffering involved and that I was contributing to it. How could I have pets and look into their eyes with no guilt. If you eat meat/dairy these days (unless you live somewhere you can’t buy good plant based produce) then you simply either don’t care for the planet or the animals or even your fellow human beings. Very selfish attitude :-(
Defending animals and the planet isn't the issue. Doing so is worthwhile, just and validated by science. The accusations of being preachy, nasty and superior come from HOW the message is brought over. Rather than calling yourself the defender of the voiceless and accusing others of being selfish, maybe you should start by diplomatically and stating what the facts are. This way you might encourage people to educate themselves, rather than get defensive (which was my reaction to your post, even though I agree with what you actually said)

always "what if" with you damn vegans. Instead of your demented fantasies, why don't you try living in the present and deal with reality. And you need to realize who is in the majority, was and always will be- meat eaters-the U.S. ratio is 200-1. You can't and won't win. But thanks for playing.

Load More Replies...Oooh, there’s another. I can’t believe you just compared eating meat to racism. You do realize no one will ever listen to you right?
