Heartbroken Woman Shares A Tearful Tribute To Boyfriend Who Died During Underwater Proposal
Recently, one of the most heartbreaking stories of losing a loved one went viral across the internet. The devastating story that left so many completely shaken was shared by a grieving woman named Kenesha Antoine. In her Facebook post, which was shared over 13k times and gathered over 300 comments sending her condolences, Antoine wrote a heart-wrenching tribute to the love of her life, Stephen Webber, who passed away during an underwater proposal.

Antoine and Webber were on a dream holiday in Pemba Island, off the coast of Tanzania. The couple was staying in a wooden cabin with a bedroom submerged in the ocean. This room with a mesmerizing sight prompted Webber to dive into the ocean and propose to his girlfriend through the window while she was inside the room. However, nobody could anticipate the tragedy that followed this romantic idea.
Once Webber put on flippers, goggles and dived into the ocean, he pressed the note to the glass which read: “I can’t hold my breath long enough to tell you everything I love about you. But… Everything I love about you I love more every day. Will you please be my wife. Marry me???”.
While holding his breath underwater, Webber even pulled out the ring from his pocket to show it to his love. However, he didn’t get the chance to hear her answer. As Antoine wrote in her post: “You never emerged from those depths, so you never got to hear my answer, “Yes! Yes! A million times, yes, I will marry you!!” ” The hotel later confirmed his death, admitting that everyone at the Manta Resort was “shaken to the core.”
The circumstances that led to Webber’s drowning are not known. In the wake of this tragedy, Webber’s family set up a Go Fund Me campaign to cover the costs of bringing his body back to the United States.

CNN reports that the cabin was 32 feet deep. Unless someone is an experienced free diver, that could easily result in drowning, which it unfortunately did. .

It was pretty open and shut with what happened. The cabin has an underwater bedroom that was about 32 feet below the surface. Guests aren't expected to swim at those depths. Without experience in free diving, a person is likely to drown when swimming so deep. Keep in mind, he wasn't just holding his breath for that long, he was exerting himself with 32 feet worth of water pressure on top of him.

They're missing a "not" (and some grammar) in "the circumstances that led to Webber’s drowning [are not] known". The Guardian says: "Authorities in Tanzania have reportedly conducted an autopsy on the body of Steven Weber but could not determine cause of death"

maybe he was so overwhelmed by the special moment, it's important to be safe and calmed i think. Excitement is good especially about proposing, so I can't figure out why but he must have been very overwhelmed :(

If you watch the video, you can tell just how deep down the bedroom was. He probably didn't realize how long he would have to hold his breath and stayed under too long. You can see him struggling a bit after he puts the ring away. He could have panicked and inhaled water. I don't think there is anymore to it than that.

So basically he was an idiot... and now she wants strangers to fund her on GoFundMe? I am sorry for her loss, but seriously - he acted like an idiot and so in the most stupid way he died. I have zero compassion for such people. I feel sorry for her, but stupidity of her dead fiance is not a reason to throw money at people.

While this is a truly beautiful story and utterly saddening, and I am sorry for her loss, I think he should have thought about the risks better. Purposefully going underwater for an extended period of time is always dangerous. It's a shame they didn't get to be together.

Romantic gesture but I'd prefer a non suicidal fiancee to propose. This is odd any human without experience could put themselves in position to die that way.

No... One... Could... Anticipate... The "Tragedy"... How deep was this water that he couldnt go 6 7 feet under water? NO one every purposely holds their breath to the point of DYING! Go ahead and try to hold your breath till your body Fights you to start breathing again. Maybe if he swam up and had too much water in his lungs. Youre on a vacation resort, get some Scuba gear....

CNN reports that the bedroom was about 32 feet under the water. In the video, you can see his hand shaking as he's holding the ring and he lets out this really small puff of air. He was struggling at those depths and wasn't able to make it the 30 feet back to the surface.

I was going to cry anyway, felt sorry for myself but... This reallly is the saddest love story I have ever read or heard. It's sad because it was so unexpectedly accidental. I don't know what to think except- reading Kanesha's words about him she is trying to be strong. I hope life be's goood to here, super good and she feels peace at heart no matter what. As for the ocean, why did you do that? ? *sad
