I Combined The Number Of Each Decade With One Thing That Defined It (9 Gifs)
Hi there. My name is Akber Ahmed and I am an illustrator who currently lives in Berlin, Germany.
I am deeply inspired by history and pop culture. As part of the #36DaysOfType challenge, I combined the number of each decade with one thing that defined it. Through the evolution of culture over each decade, we can trace our steps back in time. Enjoy!

Load More Replies...The last one is made of Japanese katakana. That was the only thing I saw...
Had no idea! Just knew that this was the font used in The Matrix!
Load More Replies...Guys I'm really curious to know: which of these is your favourite?
The 1940 I interpreted differenly - the stripes stood for me for the Nazi deathcamps where people wore those ragged striped clothes. Also the way 4 is standing in the doorway and the stripes on the wall of the room resembled a jail to me for some reason.
Very interesting interpretation Alusair. In fact when I was coming up with the idea for this, I deliberately wanted to avoid any reference to the war that dominated the decade, but I guess it got out through the cracks in my subconscious! Your interpretation is as valid as mine or any other. I simply took my inspiration from Film Noir, but the image itself could represent several things. Thanks for sharing your wonderful insight!
Load More Replies...Wow, this is amazing, I like the last 3 artpieces the most. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that i was born in late 70s.
Thanks a lot. Yes these seem to be the most popular ones, possibly because like you many of the viewers were born in the 70s, 80s or 90s.
