I would think it's the other way around. I email teachers with proper grammar, capitalization, punctuation, full sentences, then my teachers respond with "K - sent with my iPhone"

Might be a break up thing. "I'm leaving because I'll only end up hurting you (emotionally) if I stay". Not necessarily "scary", in my opinion.
