Turda Salt Mine In Romania Turned Into Authentic History Museum
Jules Verne would be so jealous! Salina Turda, a gigantic salt mine in Romania, offers you a real journey to the center of the earth. Ok, maybe not the center, but it’s still in the right direction. Salt has been mined in the area since the 11th-13th centuries, but it also may have been mined when the region was part of the Roman empire. The salt mine in Turda, which was begun in the 17th century, has been recently reconstructed as the world’s largest salt mining museum. Once serving as a crucial source for salt, it has been modernized into a trending tourist attraction with lots of activities like romantic boat rides in the underground, a mini golf track, bowling lanes, etc.
As if traveling down the shafts in a panoramic lift wasn’t awesome enough, the futuristic wooden structures on the ground floor and suspended illumination makes you feel like you’re seeing something out of Star Wars. Apart from recreational activities, Salina Turda also offers health treatment. Because of its unique microclimate, with steady temperature and humidity, it is a perfect place for those with allergic respiratory diseases.
