People Are Posting Their Refugee Stories After Trump’s #MuslimBan, And They’ll Break Your Heart
When Donald Trump signed an executive order on Friday banning citizens of Muslim-majority countries from entering the US, and suspending the Refugee Admissions Program, he did a lot more than just anger migrant crisis activists.
The Muslim ban order has left legal US residents stranded in their home countries, or in airports along the way, simply because they hold passports from Iran, Iraq, or one of five other countries on Trump's list. These are people with homes, family, and friends in the US whom they are now separated from for at least 90 days, all in the name of preventing "foreign terrorist entry." Let's not forget about the thousands of refugees in Syria and elsewhere whose dreams of finding safety and peace are now crushed, and who may very well meet their deaths before the anti-Muslim ban is lifted.
Massive equal rights protests erupted at major airports across the nation, and the Trump administration is already buried in lawsuits related to the travel restrictions. Parts of the ban preventing the movement of Green-card holders have reportedly been lifted, but the President's discriminating actions have already torn apart families across the world and doomed the lives of others.

I have a Chinese friend who lived and worked in the U.S., saved the $10,000 it took to apply for citizenship; she became a citizen legally. If this woman has worked here for seven years, she might have considered saving enough money to apply for citizenship; then she would have an American passport. Dual citizenship is a tricky business. This President is an incompetent man, controlled by a very bad man, Bannon. Bannon makes policy and Trump initiates it. Bannon has a wingnut theory about how the world works, and he is calling the shots. This woman has been caught in the cross fire. I don't know how Canada can help her; they can take her in, but they can't resolve her American passport problem.

This is a sad reminder of Hitler's Germany after 1939. There were a few who got out early, went to Portugal where they could sail for the U.S. Some got to England via merchant ships and fishing trawlers. The Netherlands hid Jews, and many small towns suffered the consequences; their mayors were hung in the public square. Austria and Poland did not protect their Jews who had lived there since birth. Homes and shops were looted, bank accounts were frozen and looted. I don't know what will happen to those stranded in airports. I am astonished to see how some Americans, now we can safely separate the good ones from the bad ones by calling the latter lot "trumpers", do not seem to grasp the fact that AMERICA, oh great HOMELAND, exists beacuse of immigrants of all sorts (called colonists), and if someone were to study their genealogy they'll discover that they are every bit American as a teabag (pun intended). Banning won't stop crazy people from blowing things up or from killing others and it certainly "won't make America great again" simply because Trump chose to point the finger and blame on an entire ethnicity. As a white British male Teacher who has worked all over the Middle East and currently lives in the Middle East, I would like to state clearly that Arabs, Muslims and Islam have unfairly bad press in the Western World. They are warm, generous and exceedingly kind people. I have never experienced such warmth and generosity until I came to the Arab world. Arabs......you rock! Dude, Obama made a LIST. A little different than a ban. The ban Obama wasn't a TOTAL ban. It did not discriminate against religion (which, by the way, Trumps DOES-do your research). It also wasn't unconstitutional like Trumps. Trumps breaks the law, limiting people who went through the proper channels to achieve some sort of protected status in America. Don't be a freaking sheep. Did you even READ these comments? If you didn't feel shame in being an American looking at these, or didn't feel your heart break, then you are what is wrong with this country. Don't be part of the problem, be part of the solution! Any single story underlines that to today's problems there are no simple solutions. In fact, these simple solutions will do more bad to innocent people than they do to stop bad people. It is particularly sad that this is only noticed if really harsh action like now is taken. Other, less harsh issues are just accepted, even though they are extremely annoying and again do not contribute anything to solving problems. Anyone still questioning why you cannot bring liquids in containers > 100 ml through airport security? It was a seaminly easy solution to increase security many years ago, and probably even justified for a while. Nowadays it is obsolete, but we got to live with it.

Doesn't matter if it's limited ban or not, Trump has no right to ban any lawful residents (Green Card holder or Citizen) from the US. Also, before making this comment you should've done some research. According to US Customs and Borders Protection, any lawful Green Card holders can leave the US anytime they want and can still return so long as they haven't been out of the country for more than 1 year. Also, an immigrant has to be living in the US for 5 years before they can apply for citizenship. The process for citizenship can take a while, according to American Immigration Center, the application process alone can take 6 months to more than a year, then they have to wait for the interview process and then wait again to be called to take the oath. So for all you know she has already applied for citizenship the moment she hit 5 years of living here, even then she's still a legal US resident.

Trump is the embodiment of our ugliest darkest fears and worries. He has given voice to the darkness. All he did was make a simple plea to our most basic fears and look what happened. Many many were duped! My heart goes out to all those affected. As a white British male Teacher who has worked all over the Middle East and currently lives in the Middle East, I would like to state clearly that Arabs, Muslims and Islam have unfairly bad press in the Western World. They are warm, generous and exceedingly kind people. I have never experienced such warmth and generosity until I came to the Arab world. Arabs......you rock! If you watch and absorb Western media unquestioningly then you are indoctrinated and as big a part of the problem as Trump. Leave the main land, travel and talk to people and see for yourself. Biggest sympathies to all those affected. Trump has no place in history.

Where was the outrage when Obama banned all Iraqi refugees for 6 months (DOUBLE what Trump has ordered) back in 2011? Dude, Obama made a LIST. A little different than a ban. The ban Obama wasn't a TOTAL ban. It did not discriminate against religion (which, by the way, Trumps DOES-do your research). It also wasn't unconstitutional like Trumps. Trumps breaks the law, limiting people who went through the proper channels to achieve some sort of protected status in America. Don't be a freaking sheep. Did you even READ these comments? If you didn't feel shame in being an American looking at these, or didn't feel your heart break, then you are what is wrong with this country. Don't be part of the problem, be part of the solution! Obama also didn't majorly disrupt millions of U.S. Citizens lives within the first week of his presidency by making crappy laws that are biased, opinionated, illegal, unconstitutional, poorly thought out, and lacked planning. These are so heartbreaking. I am only 13, and I have no say in anything. But, I truly believe that Trump's choices are rather reckless. My best friend is Muslim, and because of this ban, her father may not come home from a trip to Turkey. I feel so bad for her, and everyone else affected by this ban. God bless them.

Any single story underlines that to today's problems there are no simple solutions. In fact, these simple solutions will do more bad to innocent people than they do to stop bad people. It is particularly sad that this is only noticed if really harsh action like now is taken. Other, less harsh issues are just accepted, even though they are extremely annoying and again do not contribute anything to solving problems. Anyone still questioning why you cannot bring liquids in containers > 100 ml through airport security? It was a seaminly easy solution to increase security many years ago, and probably even justified for a while. Nowadays it is obsolete, but we got to live with it.

The lead story is based on a false narrative. The woman has not been deported. She has been refused re-entry, for 90 days. Unfortunate for her, but it is simply wrong to say she was deported. Disingenuous twisting of facts lends no credibility to the issue.

It is my understanding that this is a limited time ban. Just like all the others before it. Is that not so? And I realize I'm being nit-picky, but the woman in the first post was not deported. She left the county and was not allowed back in. There is a huge difference. And if she has been here for seven years, why didn't she become a citizen and thus have an American passport?

Doesn't matter if it's limited ban or not, Trump has no right to ban any lawful residents (Green Card holder or Citizen) from the US. Also, before making this comment you should've done some research. According to US Customs and Borders Protection, any lawful Green Card holders can leave the US anytime they want and can still return so long as they haven't been out of the country for more than 1 year. Also, an immigrant has to be living in the US for 5 years before they can apply for citizenship. The process for citizenship can take a while, according to American Immigration Center, the application process alone can take 6 months to more than a year, then they have to wait for the interview process and then wait again to be called to take the oath. So for all you know she has already applied for citizenship the moment she hit 5 years of living here, even then she's still a legal US resident.
