It's the difference between cheap generic c**p that's pushed onto out of towners versus buying a momento that captures the essence of the memory.
Tourist Vs Traveller
You can be a traveler and do both of these things. Taking a cab in a foreign place is an adventure too!

This might be the first "article" in BoredPanda that I really dislike. It feels like the author is a traveller and wants to take the "I am the coolest" credit while saying that the tourist is a show-off a**e. The beauty of travelling is totally missed in this one and that is a thing that both tourists and travellers share: the love of discovering new places, in whatever way it feels right and nice to us. Plus, the two things doesn't exclude one another. I can be a traveller and a tourist at the same time, even in the manner of this article.
Tourist shaming is one of douche-filters I apply on potential friends. Like come on. You're not better for sleeping in the motherfing woods. Just fking enjoy your bloody life and stop making other people feel less valid.
What a load of pretentious nonsense. This isn't the difference between tourist and traveller, it is the difference between tourist and hipster tourist
Hipster is now the generic and meaningless name to "stuff people do differently than I do and act snobbish about" apparentl
Load More Replies...This is absolute b******t. I don't agree with any of these comparisons. Not one. Logically actually, just look up the meaning of tourist in the dictionary: a person who is traveling, especially for pleasure. A traveler according to the dictionary: a person or thing that travels. A tourist can be a traveler and a traveler is often a tourist.
Hm, I think you can also be a traveller, if you are not into camping and hitchhiking ....
All are tourists, only 'travelers' are snooty about it. There's evidence that 'travelers' leave a bigger environmental footprint.
This is dumb. So to be a traveler I have to sleep in a tent and only wear 1 shirt and never see any major symbols of the place I'm seeing? I love to travel to experiance the local flair but I don't sleep in a tent and I don't miss out on seeing what I want to see and I bring more then one shirt. I'm not going to sleep outside in Iceland in November .
It's so popular issue. Nowadays there are a lot of "travellers" and "travel bloggers" who is pretending to travel exciting but, in fact, they don't travel for enjoyment, they explore for content. Indeed, travelling might be very complicated: to understand correctly the country, to interact with locals, to understand their language and dialects. There is a huge difference between traveller and tourist.
I think instead of "traveller vs Tourist" it should have been "mainstream vs hipster", it's exactly the same sh*t we could find about it...
STUPID STUPID STUPID I have traveled the World and this has No relevance whatsoever. Disappointing.
Ended up being an add for some travel app. I'm getting super sick of these sites sneaking ads onto us.

Hi, sir I am a huge fan of your work. so much so I even linked out to you in my latest blog post feel free to check it out. https://bit.ly/2vXTGTr if you enjoyed it feel free and share it. Cheers Global
In my opinion you have well describe traveler. Keep going! Adventures Dream https://www.adventuresdream.com/
To the locals you're a tourist no matter how much you think you're a savvy traveller. So what I'm saying is, Who the f**k cares?
What's with the shaming of people who wanna sleep on a bed and not a hammock, or the idea that if you are in a city and not climbing a mountain you are a tourist not a traveler. You can do aaaalllll the things in any of these pictures and be a tourist or a traveler. It just depends on how you pay attention. Also, what's so f*****g wrong with being a tourist? This "srticle" is so lame.
Ugggh...this article is so "posh" and "oooh look at me, being adventurey!" Just go where you wanna go and take photos however you friggin' want! Geez
some are true, others... depends on your point of view! I would never ask a stranger for a ride , nice to be traveller but mum thought me not to ask a ride to a stranger :P!
While I understand the conceptual difference which the author is attempting to illustrate, I agree with the others that this is full of stereotypes and not really representative of either a tourist or a traveller. I fancy myself a little of both, although I would never hitchhike or ride a motorcylce, and I don't lug tripods when travelling overseas.
If there is any difference between a tourist and a traveller (we really are all tourists if we just travel in a country, no matter how hip our instagram pics might be) it's that tourists leaves more money in the foreign country, create jobs and give tips.
You're a better person if you're a traveler & not a tourist? Why the judgement? I choose tourist & will see the Eiffel Tower & Taj Mahal!
I think calling this Tourist VS Traveler isn't right. It should be something like indoorsy travelers vs outdoorsy travelers. I mean I don't think I'm a tourist or a traveler really, however I love the mountains and whenever I go I do all of the above on both sides. Sometimes drive, other times hike, I'm a photographer so sometimes shoot photographs, other times take photos of myself/family with a nice background for memories, etc.
This article shows us the differences between regular travellers and backpackers. There! Haha
Everyone who is upset about this need to take a chill pill. I find this absolutely hilarious. If you haven't seen a TRUCK-LOAD of 'tourists' that come all at once and hog one touristy spot all to themselves, then decide to take a photo of each of every 30-something of them... then you haven't traveled enough!
This post is totally wrong...and i really dont care what i am tourist or a traveller ....
b******t and cliches. u can be a traveler on a tourist route and even it a 5* resort, you can be a tourist atop of everest. it's not about crowds or amenities, it's about mindset.
its lack of quality would be acceptable if there was a warning at the beginning of the article that this was a sponsored post; at least we'd know not to expect something realistic.
It doesn't matter, I don't differentiate. I just know that they're welcome starting in May and they need to leave by October 1st.
Mostly a traveler. For some things I'm on the side of the tourist in terms of organisation.
This is a wonderful post, and I just wanted to say.... For all the people who commented things like "travelers can do that, too" or "noo, it would be the other way around....." This is really just showing the MOST LIKELY tourist/traveller actions, obviously a tourist can climb a mountain or a traveller can hail a cab....people shouldn't critize BoredPanda for that....some posts are just different that others, for good or for bad. Sorry for anyone who thinks different and I didn't mean to offend anybody.
do you work for holdify? i think you do. This post is BAD, there is no other way to put it.. its pretentious, unthought out and plain stupid. plus its a blatant ad for this stupid app.
