Travel On Brazil’s Trans Amazonian Highway

The Trans-Amazonian Highway (BR-230) is known as the Rodovia Transamazonica in Brazil.

The third longest highway in Brazil runs through the Brazilian states of Paraiba, Ceara, Piaui, Maranhao, Tocantins, Para and Amazonas; from Saboeiro to Labrea.

The section I travelled on, between Itaituba and Santarem, was still unpaved. Because of the muddy mess created by the rains and deforestation, passengers often had to disembark and help push the bus; if they wanted to get to their destination.

I remember in Indonesia having to get off a train in the middle of the rain forest because there was mud below the tracks and they wanted to make sure the train would go over and not into the mud. It was a huge drop from the train down to the side of the tracks and the humidity was horrendous. Don't ask me about how I got back up into the train LOL!

That is very interesting. The closest thing I ever did was travel the Alcan highway from Canada to Alaska originating in Calif, in the 60s before it was fixed. It was just mud and rocks :) Nice image
