Tom Hanks Posts Another Photo Of A Glove, But This Time To Announce That He And His Wife Contracted Coronavirus

Recently, the World Health Organization declared that COVID-19 can be characterized as a pandemic. Over the past two weeks, the number of affected countries has tripled, with a total of 114. The WHO says that it’s the first time a pandemic has been sparked by a coronavirus, and also the first pandemic that can be controlled. With over 118,000 infected and nearly 5,000 deaths caused by COVID-19, the organization urges both governments around the world and citizens to take action to prevent the spread of the virus.

As more and more cases emerge, it has become clear that everyone is vulnerable to contracting the virus if preventative measures aren’t properly followed. Recently, one of the people who have tested positive for COVID-19 became one of America’s most beloved actors, Tom Hanks, as well as his singer and actress wife Rita Wilson.

Tom Hanks announced the news last night by posting a photo of a used medical glove in the waste bin. Before the test for COVID-19 came up positive, he was filming a yet-untitled Baz Luhrmann-directed Elvis Presley movie on the Gold Coast of Australia. The production of the movie has since been halted.

On the 5th of March, his wife Rita Wilson performed at Emporium Hotel South Bank in Brisbane. Later that week, she held a show at the Opera House.

After the announcement was made, people became worried. However, Tom’s son took to Instagram to update people on his parents’ condition. “I just got off the phone with them. They both are fine. They’re not even that sick. They’re not worried about it. They’re not trippin’, but they’re going through the necessary health precautions, obviously,” Chet Hanks said.

People couldn’t help but notice that the announcement photo aligns well with Hank’s fascination of taking lost glove photos

Tom Hanks fans noticed something peculiar about the announcement. Many of them knew that the photo of a glove wasn’t just a mere illustration of what the Hanks’ are going through at the moment.

In fact, Hanks has been demonstrating his fascination with lost gloves for a long time. The actor loves to take snaps of gloves and sometimes even socks, shoes, missing pacifiers, and other strange items on his Instagram.

While fans have many explanations for Hanks’ quirky pictures, with one of them saying that the actor is trying to draw attention to the issue of littering, here’s what he said on CBS This Morning: “I think these are fascinating slices of life. I [put captions]. ‘Give me five,’ that’s one of them. Here’s what I think. It’s freezing cold outside, and it’s no fun to have a bare hand when it’s freezing cold. And yet, someone has lost a glove. That means half their life has disappeared for the course of the day. Sometimes they’re pretty little knitted gloves, sometimes they’re hardworking … What is a better metaphor for the loneliness of the city? Of a single lost glove?”

You are lucky to be in Australia. I was talking to a doctor yesterday in New York who is thinking of closing his practice for a while because there are no tests available and he feels that he cannot help people. He said he’s been asking for tests and has been denied numerous times. The numbers of infected in the U.S are false. There are thousands more that have it and cannot get tested. Hospitals are sending them back out because they are not prepared for quarantining people.

People aren't getting tested in Australia though either. I presume Tom Hanks managed to get a test because he pushed for one and his status. If Tom Hanks got it and he is probably not milling about regular people, imagine how many people are infected? I'm Australian. One of our family friends had a relative from Italy come here to stay 5 weeks ago, before the travel restrictions and before Italy was hit bad. The ltalian lady had zero symptoms, and was (and still is) in picture perfect health. No one on her flight was ill, etc. She went back to Italy about two weeks ago. She is/was fine and was cleared to travel and was designated 'low risk'. But the friend she stayed with in Australia got a sudden flu. Her symptoms were mild, a bit like how Hanks describes them. She went to the doctor and basically her symptoms were so mild it was probably just a cold not covid19. Well we now know symptoms differ greatly and there are asymptomatic carriers etc. She was never tested.

So far there were 1000s of anonymous victims, but suddenly an actor who is admired by many around the world puts a face to them. They are not just old people or people far away in central China. It can happen to everyone.
