I am amazed at how many outdated superstitious BS things the British monarchy follows. They went into a lot of detail leading up to the recent coronation and a lot of the little things were rather bizarre. All the places they source the sacred oil they anoint his head with and this and that little detail that seemed intended to appease the beliefs of some tribe that was a territory way back when and so on. Basically all the mystical BS to justify someone being the leader who was not voted in by the people.

We had a bee hive in our chimney and the opportunity arose to move house and so I was looking into an apiarist coming and moving them because it’s likely the house will be demolished. That same week that we decided we would move the hive disappeared, after 22 odd years in the chimney. I miss them.

Traditional beekeepers always talk to their bees about what is happening. If they don't, then who will? It is also recommended to show reverence to the queen of the hive and that means pulling a scarf or veil over one's head.

I remember my mum going down to my dad's bees the evening he died to tie a black ribbon on the hives. A risky business for her as she has a bee sting allergy. Still, she managed it. I think the ritual was important to her. Strangely, a swarm of his bees (he had some unusually coloured ones for our area so we knew they were his) appeared in the tree above his grave the day of his burial. It was June, so swarming month, but still - very strange. Luckily I didn't notice them when it was my turn to shovel the earth on his coffin or I might have screamed and jumped in too.
