From people and plants to cars and buildings, time eventually wears everything out. Sometimes it takes weeks or months, other times it can take years or decades, but eventually everything begins to crumble beneath the unstoppable pressure of Father Time.
Check out this fascinating list to see what we mean. Compiled by Bored Panda, the pictures below contain everything from marble floors worn down by feet to kitchen knives that have almost lost their blades due to years of constant use. Sorry for the loss, but um, curious why a rabies tag stayed on so long? They get new ones every 1-3 years depending on the vaccine.
Footprints Are Carved Into The Floorboards By Monk Who Has Prayed At The Same Spot For 20 Years
Wood doesn't work that way. It would only be worn down if the monk hat moved a lot over that place, but he didn't . Just standing on wood wouldn't make dents - it might lower a section, but not carve out footprints. Especially not the toes! there's no weight on a toe, how would it indent so far down that you would spot the individual ones? Sorry- I call "fake" for this.
The Marble Floor Of This Bank Has Been Worn Down From Years Of People Standing
If you see the central atrium of Congress, the floor is worn and uneven from people walking across it. It's rather remarkable!
Load More Replies...Marble is a porous, soft stone that's why it is widely used for carving and sculptures. I have seen this happening in busy places of worship especially where the stairs are made of marble.
If this is supposed to be real, then why are the spots the exact same size in the same location and only one spot in front of each teller? Shouldn't there be several spots in a row for people standing in line? And why does everyone stand exactly the same with their feet perfectly together? Don't get me wrong, I am not refuting that marble isn't porous but this seems way too symmetrical to be made by humans.
Exactly my thought about people standing in line.
Load More Replies...Nowadays, the indentations would go back about 20 feet in one line, since there's only one teller open🙄
Marble is a softer mineral, when compared to other types of rocks. You can actually scratch it with a butter knife, why it has been used for at lot of sculptures over time.
Load More Replies...I don't think it can. I've been to Rome and St Peter's is older than the bank.. no damage there..
Many Italian hotels have worn down marble stairs so this is def true
When you consider the detritus our shoes pick up in the range of dirt, sand and other particles and their abrasive ability after say, a hundred years i could see this ,Maybe!
The stairs in the old NC state house are worn way down from years of use.I seem to remember seeing the same thing in the Capitol.
The same number of people came in the door as stood at a counter, don't you think there would be a trench from the entry?
Marble floor? it is indestructible. Marble is one of the strongest stone in the world. I don't believe this one.
Everything can be worn down, even metals. All surfaces are essentially sandpaper of various grit levels, just need enough time.
Load More Replies...The stairs at my kid's elementary school (80 years old) did this too, bowed in the middle.
The marble stairs of my high school were bowed down in the middle just like this, although I don't know how old the school was ( since the 1800s).
Load More Replies...Me either but the counters also show the same wear so I suppose it could betrue!
How can so many comments say they didn't know this could happen? It's erosion of rock! You see it outside, you learn about it as a child, it's in so many old buildings and ruins. It's just there!
i am struggling with a few of these pics. how could this really happen??
Reminds me of the homes in England one of which comes to mind is William Shakespeare home. Large slabs of stone worn down and very smooth from decades of use.
The marble steps in our nation's capital building are worn in the center from years and years of use by our elected officials and Congressional staff!
The marble steps in our nation's capital building are worn down on the center edge from years and years of use by our elected officials and Congressional staff!
I have to call shenanigans here. They all look identical in size, shape, location and depth.. Besides that, marble has been proven to last centuries, why is this one building an exception?
If I had to propose a theory, I would say that a somewhat acidic cleaning solution had been used for a long time, and extra attention was paid to scrubbing the dirtiest parts of the floor, right where people had been standing. That's the only thing I can think of that explains the same effect on differing types of stone in the floor.

The Worn Marble Steps That Lead To The Top Of The Leaning Tower Of Pisa
I wonder if this proves that a majority of people is right-footed ? If such a concept exists at all ? The difference in wear is striking. Seems also to suggest that most people tend to hug the right wall for support or security.
