I learned to always wear/bring socks when going to the thrift store, even during sandal season. If you are taking off your shoes to try bottoms on, you don't want your bare feet on the dressing room floor.

This one is great because clothing can be stretched out so for istance. If you are a size 10 and you pick up a pair of pants that say 10 they may fit more like a 12 because of heavy wear. So measuring is going to be so much better!

Also thrift store sheets give you a cheeper way to get character fabric I made some awesome Star wars curtains for a Christmas gift

Just stopped at church thrift store yesterday when my purse strap broke to hold me until I find something. I'm picky, not regarding designer stuff, but just the requirements I need for a purse, so it can take me a while to find something. I LOVE backpack purses, especially for concerts & festivals, but they're getting harder to find. Even if they don't allow backpacks, I carry it like a purse going in & then put it on.

If you can find thrift stores that are near higher income areas those are great. But also go to the ones that are on the outskits of town. They probably get less foot traffic and you can find some great gems.

Very true. None of my thrift store clothes look like anyone else's. I guess for some that's a negative, but not for me.

This is dumb.... yeah stuff smells but you can't really tell at a thrift store because of all the other smells. Look most fabrics can be washed enough to get rid of smells.

I HATE the thrift stores, especially bigger ones, that don't separate by size and separate only by color. I'm not going through all the sizes to find what I want. I'll go somewhere else. Except for skirts since there are fewer & fewer skirts every year. It's getting really hard to find anything but hippie & office skirts. I love kick pleat skirts for dancing.

This makes me feel better. I avoid thrifting because I always think I (who can afford new) am taking away clothing and items from people who can't afford anything else. But this...this makes sense too.

I don't put out books I don't read. I never understood coffee table books. Plus my grandson & cats like to push them off.

Choosing natural materials in shirts and dresses really helps staying comfortable. Polyester gets so much sweatier and smellier, especially the fake silk kind if stuff. It sometimes sucks to have to pass on a beautiful polyester dress or shirt, but I know my armpits will thank me later on.

Most of my best designer clothes are thrifted. I love the quality, but don't normally shop in high-end stores.

I only but men's Tshirts or unisex. Women's Ts are too tapered, and I like a looser fit through the bust.

Sometimes the pictures in them are pretty cool too.

On dollar day, get there EARLY! Or late...there's still tons of clothes to choose from and then I spend like $40 instead of $150

I do agree with this one. Thrift workers will put clothing, for the most part, in the right sections but people shopping there will put stuff back wherever and those workers are not checking the racks each day so yeah... look everywhere!

I've also happened upon some great children's clothes at garage sales. $10 for a whole wardrobe one time. And good clothes. Sometimes kids don't even get to wear them before they grow out of them.

I work in clothing manufacturing... let me tell you all that it doesn't matter the brand they are all made in China. Trust me the Nike shoe above is made in the same factory as the discount shoes at walmart. It's not about one brand being better than the other... it's about price.

Again... dumb.... you can't guarntee that the thrift store is going to have what you want. It's okay to go out looking for a specific thing but walking aimlessly around the store is the best part of thrifting...
