lol Apparently you've never been to rural America. I guess the European mind can't understand that most of the US is farmland and small agricultural towns. And this kind of thing is common. When I lived in NV the freeway would come to a halt to let cattle pass. Same with mules and wild horses. Yes, wild horses.

Hit a horse with a car and it probably totals the car, and also may injure the occupants. Horse right of way is kind of de facto, really. Also, I think horses are smarter about traffic than deer.

Has the author heard of the wild ponies of Chincoteague? The American mind can quite easily understand the concept.

Go to Key West, where the chickens roam free and also have the ROW.

I'm in Cornwall and this is like it on the moor in the village where I live. Horses or cows roaming free.

There are a few places in the US with wild horses. One spot in Virginia is really cool, but I would not recommend camping there because HOLY C**P THE MOSQUITOES

This lack of comprehension is certainly not limited to Americans.

Michigan has increased, by a LOT, deer harvest numbers/licenses. Courtesy of the insurance carriers paying out SO much for car/deer crashes.

This simply isn't true, and the first giveaway is that it's written by an american - we don't talk like that. Horses are allowed on all roads in the UK, not just in England, aside from motorways, but they categorically do not have right of way over cars. There are specific laws and guidelines regarding how other road users should behave around horses, but also laws and rules for horse riders who get prosecuted if their animal damages another vehicle or injures a pedestrian. There is an area in the south of England a stone's throw from where I live called the New Forest (which we planted about 800 years before american independence) where local bylaws give priority to /animals/ including horses, but that's about as close as you'll get.

But we would like to...except, of course, for when we want/need something from a business that's close for the "summer holiday", however long that is. "Where I work should be closed for a few weeks/months, but I need all other businesses to be open for my convenience." How does that work, anyway? I mean, surely you can't close all of the grocery stores/markets for a week at the same time... I would think any business that can close for an extended period of time can't be any kind of necessity to society.
