If you were pretty online between 2013 and 2018, first of all, I’m sorry, second of all, you are most likely familiar with the somewhat hard-to-define sire called Tumblr. Part interactive blog, a repository for creative works, and a safe haven for fandoms, its influence can still be felt across various internet spaces to this day.
“The Worst of Tumblr” Facebook page actually goes above and beyond its name and shares hilarious and random posts as well. Below you will find a collection that should be entertaining and a bit unhinged, regardless of your taste, so remember to upvote your favorites as you scroll through and comment your thoughts below.

Part of the appeal of Tumblr was its key differences with other social media. Instead of focusing on the individual person, the focus revolved around fandoms, art, memes, and discussions. One’s personality plays a part in what one creates, but the anonymity did allow for more freeform content.
It’s not surprising that many artists, actors, and musicians all had Tumblr accounts at some point, before, during, and after fame. Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, and even Ryan Reynolds have and perhaps still are allegedly Tumblr users. While one does not have to stay anonymous on Tumblr, it no doubt adds to the appeal.
this is so wholesome <3 strangers helping strangers, i have faith in the world
While still quite popular, or at least recognizable, Tumblr is still a pretty niche platform compared to giants like Twitter or Facebook. While this might mean less revenue for its owners, the flip side is more focused content and a more consistent demographic. The vast majority of its users were teens and college students, with at least half of its active user base being younger than 25.
Unlike many other social networking sites, Tumblr users are surprisingly prolific, as many do make their own content. In 2019, there would be over 21 million posts made a day, despite only approximately 30 million active users at that time. Compared to Facebook or Instagram, where the majority of users almost never post anything, it’s still a vibrant community, if somewhat reduced over the last few years.
"How could you leave me? Every day there has been a very persistent burglar here looking for me. Luckily I am good at hiding."
This reduction in content and usage came about in 2018 when adult content was banned in an attempt to make the platform more marketable. This, predictably, backfired, as more adult-style content was quite popular. The anonymity and relative freedom of content originally made Tumblr a haven for people exploring their sexuality and researching others’ experiences.
While many assume that the rapid reduction in usage following the adult content ban indicated that much of Tumblr content was not for children, statistically, only approximately 22% of its traffic was specifically for this sort of content. Many left the platform in protest, not so much because they needed it for adult content, but because they did not like the direction it was going.
Man I’d be ROLLING lmao I have to remember this for when my sister turns 32
when i worked in retail, i had some people closer to my age who would get frustrated with something, but they wouldn't scream. they APOLOGIZED for being frustrated LOL
This! Usually younger people even when they get upset will warn you they’re frustrated or will apologize when you point out to them they’re getting a bit too upset. A lot of older people will double down if you tell them this at first, but then later if I do a good job at continuing to mitigate they’ll leave apologizing for it :) Or just leave being jerks, but I can’t help that 5%
Load More Replies...Wait till you are the older generation. I tell ya, I wasn't prepared for it. It's SHOCKING the way you become invisible once you reach 40 years old, as a woman. I didn't think I'd ever be a Karen, but when you stand at the counter for 10 minutes saying, "Excuse me?" "Hi..." "Hello, can I..?" while people walk right past you and don't see or hear you, eventually you too will shout, "HEY, DAMMIT, DOES ANYONE WORK HERE OR NOT?" It's really like that scene in Grace and Frankie. I, too, have reached over the counter to help myself to what I needed once I sussed out that I was invisible.
The same people who scream at you screamed at their kids the same way. That's why.
Worked in retail for years. It was always the older folks who threw the biggest tantrums.
Work retail. Always the older folk that have a full p**s fit over the rope set up to direct lines. "This is complicated" "this is stupid" we get a lot....we have signs that direct you....and you just follow the ropes to the counter....i seen 3 yr olds do this without issue
Load More Replies...I have never yelled at anyone that has provided me a service, I’m 52. People make mistakes, so you discuss it politely, and not in front of other people if possible. So many young kids working their first casual job in fast food, get abused by people of all ages.
That's simply not true. The VAST majority of people who are rude are older. I do not know a single millennial who's ever yelled at a retail worker. Meanwhile...

Recently a lady got angry at me because we couldn't bring her every item she wanted. I work at a giant toystore, so we usually give directions to the right aisle, but this wasn't good enough for her. It was super busy and only had 3 people working that day. She starting telling me loudly I should because it's my job and would not let me finish my sentences when I tried to explain why we couldn't. Told me I was being mean to her, and I just said 'well sorry madam but you're also being a bit mean'. She LOST it, called me a b***h, said she wasn't scared of me, got up in my face and started threatening to file a complaint. I honestly would not have been surprised if she has slapped me. Never had someone in their 20's act like this in my 8 years of retail work...
20s?! What a spoiled kid. Likely got it from mommy

Couple factors may play into that. First, hearing loss and not getting what someone is saying or how they’re saying it. I used to work with a girl my age who was deaf in one ear, but she didn’t tell anyone about it. My desk was next to hers, and she would always get really pissy at me and totally misunderstand everything I’d say. Guess which side of her I sat on? Second, they came into adulthood when the concept of “the squeaky wheel gets greased” and the incorrect “the customer is always right” were really popular and so new they worked. However, they’ve become set in their ways and refuse to adapt to the new attitudes about that old-fashioned horseshit everyone has rejected, except the old farts. So yeah, physical issues, stagnation in outdated attitudes, and refusal to adapt to either of those new circumstances are the recipe for old people throwing unreasonable and irrational fits over stuff that doesn’t matter a damn. Luckily, at 62 I still have good hearing, and am very adaptable to positive societal changes—-a lot of the old c**p is stuff I too fought against back in the day, though I was part of a drowned out minority who knew it was wrong. Believe it or not, most older people are pretty cool and highly anticipate positive change and forward thinking. The ones who loudly and rudely resisted it as young people are the ones who still loudly and rudely resist it as old farts.
For some reason, the older generations have a thing against hearing aids...even people with glasses. They think it makes them "look old". Me? If I couldn't hear, I'd be buying hearing aids in a flash.
Load More Replies...I have had great success by complaining about a situation, and not blaming the person I'm talking to... it gets me a better resolution. When something isn't right, it's good to have those who might be able to do something about it on your side...
I work in CS. When I have a customer with genuine problem and there is a way to get customer happy by bending the rule/[policy, I would bend the rule/policy. I will do anything in my power to get them what they want. I will do this as long as they are respectful and nice to me. If you come at me all mad screaming and blaming, I shut down. You get what policy states, and if policy says you not suppose to get what you want then you don't get what you want.
Load More Replies...Wait for it. 20+ years in retail various dept including cs. It won't matter the age of the customer. *Unconsciously* Younger reps take care of younger customers better and tend to get annoyed with older customers faster. Younger customers prefer reps they can use or manipulate better reps age doesn't matter. younger folk talk to fast and use too much slang for older people to keep up with and they are quick to blame the elder instead of realizing they created the problem by their fast talking and slang. its not the actual ages....it's in how they communicate.
I don't get the angry freak outs. Having a bad day does NOT entitle you to mistreat other people. (I'm GenX.)
I am also gen X. Rarely saw the "greatest generation" get ruffled.
Load More Replies...I am 55 and had a member call and start in her rant calling me a millennial and I don't understand anything about her generation. I said "ma'am I am 2 years older than you." She shut up really quick.
wen i worked in retail the older generations treated me like i knew nothing or like i was their grandkid there was no in between. it was mostly treated me like i didnt kno anything. im on disability now bc my anxeity disorder couldnt handle the abuse from customers and no matter wat job i tried there was always someone triggering my anxeity disorder to the point where i just cant work. the younger generation was worse bc they thought they can do watever they wanted and would make a mess of the store.
When I was teaching, I noticed that some of the nicest students had parents with the shittiest personalities.
Did you know it's disrespectful to say "no trouble/worries/problem" when someone says thank you for helping them? After that tweet about the difference between the older and younger generations responses to being thanked, they came out of the woodworks. Yall weren't mad til the news said you could be 🙄
Damn Boomers! It’s true, however, I know that every generation group will have their loud, obnoxious, cranky, miserable detritus. Wait & see, it’ll happen ‘fore ya know it. People are people, and a percentage must be nasty wasters of O₂
I am an American and I worked for a company that delt with Candians about half the time and they were at keast 10 times as rude as the Americans
As someone who routinely deals with pissy people as a part of star job, the younger parents, 9 times out of 10, are the ones who A. Actually parent in a healthy way and B. Don’t complain to the lifeguards when we enforce the rules
I am 74 and am unfailingly polite and understanding with customer service reps. That said, I do think people my age have had a lifetime of frustration, often deal with serious health issues, and have had it with poor quality and lack of good customer service. I kind of understand when someone loses it, even if it isn't acceptable.
I do not understand why people get rude to others... it's not just retail. My 80-year old mom is an a*****e to everyone... take a tour of the senior center, librarians, waitresses... I take her nowhere now. Have her stuff delivered and tip them with her card. You be an a*****e in your apartment, alone.
When I worked in costumer service I mostly had younger people behaving badly, but of course I was 65.
I freaked out on one cashier once in my life and I was heavily pregnant at the time. I felt so so bad when my hormones calmed down later that day and apologized the next time I saw her. I don't get how people can be assbutts to people in the service industry on the regular.
My dear Maddi, I, a "baby-boomer" female, do hereby apologize for all the "older generation" a******s who have freaked you out! Please accept my apology! Please try to understand that all this new technology, which our generation helped provide for you, has some of us totally feeling helpless. I pray that when you are our age, and technology leaves you behind, you may remember to reflect on this moment & realize how life is a circle. It's never too late ... for anyone ... anywhere ... anytime ... to be nice, altruistic and empathetic. Good luck.
We are old we are tired! You have no idea what’s going on in a person’s life ( young or old) so don’t take it personal. I found if you bring your voice down almost to a whisper, they will be quiet and lean in to hear you! De-escalates the situation every time! If it gets too bad let your manager take care of it, they get paid more than you!
This aged like milk. Anyone that thinks boomers are bad has never had to deal with zoomers and their entitlement. The things I hear from those trollops while out & about, honestly it makes me ashamed to be the same species.
I have to say that there are way too many people my age who disgust me. They damn well know better!
I mean it is easier to see customer service workers perspective for the younger generations because of social media. I'm assuming that's part of it
Genx here… started working retail at 13 (back when it was easy to lie about your age) and stayed in some sort of customer service role for 20 years. Our generation received TONS of customer service training, like weeks of it, and we were always told that “the customer is ALWAYS right”. If we weren’t as sweet as sugar and jumping through hoops for each and every customer, we’d get fired. My husband was also expected to provide the same meticulous customer service while waiting tables through college. Long story short, we’re convinced that our generation (the “older” generation) expects the same stellar treatment because it was drilled into us for most of our lives and we get cranky when we see that the younger generations aren’t expected to maintain these same standards.
This 100%. The older a customer is the more unreasonable they are. I work doing repairs in customers home. Old people think you’re responsible for everything in their home just because you’re there with tools. They will setup trouble calls with my company to fix a product completely unrelated to our service and get mad that I can’t or won’t fix it. I have never had a younger customer do this. Btw I’m not “young” myself.
I think it's a thing that happens after the world wears you down for another 30 years. One day it will be you too
THIS. Work at the movies. Older customers tend to throw a fit if inconvenienced even the SLIGHTEST bit. Complain about the consession set up, b***h that they cant get tickets cheaper than $8 (matinee price that runs open-6, before the new company took over the matinee only ran 10-11), complain about consession cost. Most issues we have with teens is them trying to sneak in or get to noisy in the movie. They are overall polite to workers just a bit airheaded at times? 😅 not paying much attention to questions we ask
Best moment of this was the teen who didnt know what theater he was supposed to go to or his movie time didnt have tickets on him nor where his friend is who did have the tickets🤦♀️ i wasnt near any register at this time either (was on hot food cook station) so i didnt even have movie info on me
Load More Replies...I worked in customer service for a long time. Young people can tend to be oblivious to social niceties, and that can be annoying, but no one can be a d*ck like a retiree.
Have you considered the possibility that the people close to your age just aren't as adept at recognizing when you're incompetent?
Here's what's funny about that...the fact that the ones closer to your age are nicer is probably because you're nicer to them. In all honesty you probably "relate" to that generation more so they in turn are polite to you. That being said, not every person in every generation is nice/mean. However, if you were to find a common denominator for most customers and treat them all with equal respect well...then you'd be doing your job! You would also be doing that job to the "best" of your ability and then know its not your fault other older customers are rude to you. I've been doing customer service for 20 plus years and know that if I am good at my job not whiney and pay attention I get the respect I deserve no matter the age group/gap. Yes there will be entitled individuals that you can never please but its not your job yo belittle berate and generally treat customers like c**p because you don't like their attitude. If you can't handle dealing with bs you should probably not work 😜
Video games don’t help me “relax,” they have me screaming “yessss YESSSS” at the screen like Gollum when he gets the Ring. Get it right, EnochPowell. 🙄
My BFF from HS lives over an hour away (more if there is traffic-Houston). When my kids were little, she always came to my house to visit. She married later in life and had 1 kid. Now I try to go visit her when her schedule allows. And that's why we've been BFFs for 42 years and counting.
I would have backed up a few feet and braked hard. Door slams shut. Boss comeback.
Puss in Boots got a weird translation here, the dog is called Perrito and every time they say his name the subtitle goes "Speaking Spanish", like it is his NAME you dont have to translate it!
Well this wasn't Tumblr, like what, 5% was? Nevertheless entertaining I guess.

This post makes me so angry. It's mostly Twitter and other platforms. Hardly anything from Tumblr. How lazy can you get? If these images are from that Fb group, that group should change their name. BP needs to do a better job about topics to write about. Don't choose some Fb group and then show content that has nothing to do with the topic.
