The World’s Most Intricate Cleaver Handle. “The Evolution Of Man”- Meat Cleaver
This is the build of the “evolution of man” Cleaver. I spent countless hours creating this one of a kind art piece. I purchased this antique rusty cleaver from craigslist for only $8 bucks. I didn’t want to grind off all of the pitting in the metal, because I love the way it looks and it shows how worn and beaten it truly is. Like my usual work, I decided to go WAY outside the box with the handle. The idea was to use my new cricut cutter to cut out silhouettes of the “evolution of man” and have them encapsulated in epoxy with Paduak wood spacers.
EPOXY PROBLEMS: Turns out, I am not very knowledgable in epoxy, and I completely ruined my first handle. I completely scrapped it and started over with a different approach. The second approach still had many flaws, but I made it work. In the second approach I sealed all of the wood pieces with urethane, and I did three epoxy pours over 4 hour intervals. The result was better than the first, but still had flaws.
Overall- I learned a TON about working with epoxy, but I still do not have all of the answers. PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW I COULD HAVE DONE THE EPOXY POUR BETTER!!!! tell me in the comments!
