I found a dirty plush toy dog, he had been stepped on and run over by strollers and bikes. No one thought to pick him up and clean him off, he was garbage. I set about to make a toy so durable it wouldn’t wear out for 50 years. It also had to be so unique and amusing, that even if it got lost someone would pick it up and take it home. I contacted all the local suppliers for leather in Vancouver where I live and asked for samples or scraps.
That was in 2012, the year LeatherMonsters was born. Since then they have appeared in Art Galleries, music videos, but most importantly, in the homes of many children and adults. Hundreds have been made, painstakingly, one at a time in my Vancouver Studio. Each one a labour of love and craftsmanship. I’m a maker and my name is Lisa Lee. Monster Love!
