Although the vinyl toy movement first began out of Hong Kong and Japan, there are more and more independent and manufactures producing these trendy designer toys all around the globe. David Schlesinger, CEO and Founder of Corner12, has been recruiting artists to put their spin on this growing industry and decided to put a new spin on the industry by bringing on Dan Tanenbaum in his roster of artists. “I wasn’t sure that my artwork would work in this medium as it’s really almost the anti-vinyl” Tanenbaum said “instead of a soft, fluffy toy filled with rainbow colors my work is more industrial and heavy”. Tanenbaum’s piece have upwards of 2,000 watch parts attached to the vinyl figures and give it a real steampunk look. The reception has been incredible selling out his first series within a week. Tanenbaum is now producing a series for Kidrobot to be release early in 2017.
