They aren’t called armadillo lizards for no reason!
Armadillo lizard get their name because of their incredibly unique trait: curling up into a ball.
If an armadillo feels as though it is under attack, it will curl up into a ball, while biting its tail. This is also incredibly important for protecting its vulnerable underside.
This is how these unique lizards have gotten their name: the armadillo lizard.
Armadillo lizards are resilient – and can sustain this defensive posture for up to a full hour!
Mothers will do anything for their young
Another unique trait of the armadillo lizard is that mothers give birth to live young. This is a rarity among reptiles.
Mothers are incredibly nurturing, and have been seen feeding their young.
Mothers will also give birth to only one armadillo lizard at a time, something which is also, funnily enough, rarely seen among other reptiles.
