The Impressive Portraits Of Celebrities Made From Pieces Of The Face Of Ordinary People
Chinese artist Zhang Wei built “Frankensteins” of famous people from countless clippings of the faces of more than 300 anonymous Chinese.
The idea for the series came about when Zhang Wei met in 2008 a Japanese game called Artificial Girl, which lets you create virtual people that do not exist in the real world.
About a year before, he had photographed over 300 Chinese, including relatives, friends and strangers, for a job that sought to discuss the sense of Chinese identity in the 21st century.
The project was not completed, but the portrait database served as the basis for the faces and mouths of Artificial Theater: Wei went on to cut and paste on the computer pieces of those over 300 faces to form the traits of figures like John Lennon , Donald Trump, Marilyn Monroe and Madonna.
