So many millions to spend on a family obsessed with NARCISM. This is the kind of news that prooves most News Networks are basically prostitutes. And they wonder why they're called Fake News.
This is weird timing, seeing this. I don't follow the Kartrashian family except for the news and photos forced upon me opening a browser. Today I was reading about the beautiful actress Alicia Vikander, who is married to actor Michael Fassbender. They are very, very private people. Got married quietly. Had a child last year - event was not known until now because they want it personal and private. Child's name not revealed. Right underneath this lovely article was a big photo and "PREGNANT AND SEXY KYLIE JENNER SEEN IN BIKINI ON YACHT WITH BF". What a sick, sad family.
Isn't she a kardashian? or a jersey shore? I'm pretty sure she's not an actress. No idea who the hell these people are...

Puppy mill puppies. Sorry to compare them to a product, but that’s how they’re treated. No one should purchase a puppy from a pet store, EVER. This now extends to online brokerage websites like greenfield and puppyspot. They’re like Amazon, a few clicks and a puppy will be sent to your door, and these puppies are coming from the exact same place as the pet store puppies. Because of people’s need for instant gratification, these facilities with hundreds to thousands of breeding animals persist. They are the best cash crop you could hope for.
Never believe a store who claims they only sell puppies from responsible breeders. No, not even if the owner has visited the breeders and “know” they’re good! By definition a responsible breeder would NEVER send their puppies to a pet store. Even pet stores that claim to only have rescues need to be scrutinized because some mills will use a shell rescue to “puppy launder”. “Licensed and certified breeders” should be a red flag - depending on the state, a breeder only needs to be licensed if they have a large number of dogs, are selling to brokers to go to pet stores, or to people “sight unseen” (online). YMMV depending on the state.
People sometimes justify their purchases as “saving” puppies from a pet store. But that is still investing in the industry and funding their operations by giving them profit. Legislation hasn’t stemmed the tide. Only a loss of profit will make mills move on to another hustle.
So please educate yourself and anyone you know who loves dogs and might ever be tempted to purchase a puppy from a pet store or online. Either adopt from a responsible rescue, or purchase from a responsible breeder.
You can check with stores though - my local pet store works WITH the local rescue centre to as a sort of halfway point for adoption. Store =/= bad automatically. It very much depends on location.
Yep. At my local pet stores, you will see the name and contact information for the rescue clearly posted and all the interactions for adopting will go through the rescue, not through the store. The rescue I volunteer with places a lot of animals this way. It's incredibly helpful to us to have that kind of venue to get homeless animals in front of potential adopters.

Load More Replies...Also never buy dogs in a reeder that a) sells many breeds and b) doesnt have the parents available to see. Most pretend to be breeders but also use puppy mills. Sadly here in the north of belgium there are many. It disappointed me a lot seeing how little the authorities care
I don't think I've ever seen puppies (or kittens, for that matter) in a pet shop in the UK. I'm not saying we don't have them, but I've never seen them. Pet shops seems to sell rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, degu and chinchillas.
The law in the UK is very clear. A puppy under 6 months old may only be sold by the original breeder or re-homed by a registered organisation.
Load More Replies...Breeders as well. My daughter works at a rescue and 90% of their intake is breeder dumps. Either the puppies didn't sell fast enough, they have medical issues and (because the breeder didn't do genetic testing). The heartbreaking ones are the females that have been so overbred they have prolapsed uterus and are in such poor condition that they are considered geriatric by the age of 3.
I agree you can buy dogs from responsible breeders. Many service dogs, especially for disabled or elderly (or even for bomb sniffing) are usually taken from certain breed or hybrids for a reason. In other cases sometimes people want a specific hard to find breed for various reasons (like the climate and environment where they live), which those breeders are good for as well. Look for which agencies certify them, the American Kennel Club certifies responsible breeders that meet a very long list of criteria and get regular inspections.
petfinder is a great site i looked at when getting a dog, all dogs on there are rescues living in foster homes or shelters. it tells you about each dog, and you can choose breed, size, age, color, and if you insert your address, you can choose the max distance from your house. Im not sure if it works for countries other than the US tho. sry for the rant. just that if you want a dog it really helps
Women’s pants/trousers which STILL have tiny pockets.
This is so horrible! I heard they do this to market the purse industry
And also to *slim and shape* the body *eye roll* we use the pants to be practical. If they aren't, why wear them at all
Load More Replies...If any. I never knew this was a problem until my fiance pointed it out and now I see it absolutely everywhere. Men have enough pocket space for a phone, wallet, keys, change of clothes, bag of diapers and a small car. Women get almost enough for a credit card.
"...and a small car." Made me laugh. The lack of pockets does not make me laugh....
Load More Replies...Or pockets on the fronts of women's shirts. Why would I need a pocket over each boob? What do the manufacturers think I'm going to put in them?
Lol. That would be weird. Pack of smokes maybe? 😂 Now that’s CLASS 🤣 🤷🏻♂️ but anyway, beats me!
Load More Replies...That’s why I only buy jeans in the men’s section. The woman’s section usually has only tight jeans and with tiny pockets. I want comfort, thank you. Sadly then all my jeans are too long for me because I am a f*****g hobbit
Not to mention, men's jeans are sized by actual inches, e.g. 32x34. Not whatever size that particular brand wants to call an 8 or a 12.

Diamonds.
Diamonds are fu*king worthless and fuel a gigantic slavery trade business. We should have stopped digging for em.and just using lab made ones.
I feel like many are moving away from a diamond as an engagement stone.
I would rather a simple silver band with turquoise any day of the week
Load More Replies...Sigh. Not all diamonds are "blood diamonds". There is a legitimate diamond mining industry in places like South Africa or the Canadian arctic and the adult miners are VERY well paid. Buy from a reputable shop and not some cheesy place offering suspiciously low prices and you'll be fine.
The price is still ridiculously high for something that's not genuinely rare.
Load More Replies...Also common as hell, just the yearly sales (of natural diamonds) are heavily restricted to keep prices high.
Basically, ALL worth is dependent on someone wanting something. The ONLY item that is constantly valuable is land. Nothing else is as valuable. I, however, think that knowledge is as valuable, but, basically the ONLY thing that is worth anything all the time is land. You control land you control food, water and housing. The three basic needs.
I disagree that they're worthless - worth is culturally determined - but I do agree with the rest.
The DeBeers cartel had a lot to do with the cost of diamonds being as high as it is.
Load More Replies...I love my engagement ring. It has a one carat diamond in the centre.
Exactly! I told my so do whatever you can afford, whatever metal as long as I'm not allergic. I don't need a gem, but if you want to get one, lab made is easy and cheap. But if they want to be "extravagant" then do research on the gem. Otherwise if I were to be absolutely picky with no guilt, a platinum band will be just fine. If there are bad things about it please lmk. I haven't found anything yet. My promise ring is white gold. I may be ignorant but if I. And I'm wrong and my research has been false, I have no problem taking the blame and rectifying the whole thing
Speaking as a European, Hershey bars are absolutely horrendous
Speaking as an American, about every 2 years, I order an 5kg block of Callebaut dark chocolate from Belgium. (We do have quality artisanal chocolate makers in the US, but Hershey is just disgusting. It's too sweet and the texture is off-putting.)
The Belgians do make excellent chocolate, but a lot of other European countries do as well
Load More Replies...People get used to it maybe. However, it does have that hint of vomit flavour. Caused by the butyric acid... real chocolate doesn't have that taste. Hershey's purposefully puts their chocolate through controlled lipolysis, giving it that unique taste. I brought some back from a holiday to the US for my work colleagues, Everyone could taste that tang. Threw it away in the end.
Load More Replies...I can’t cope with the level of butyric acid in a lot of US chocolate. It smells like vomit to me.
Ironic that its one ingredient in chocolate that's actually healthy to eat.
Load More Replies...It's probably the paraffin wax... Yes, it's really listed as an ingredient!
(Swede) When I tasted this chocolate I immediately had to check the date on it because I thought it must be spoiled, it must have gone bad tasting that bad. I had never tasted a chocolate that I didn't think was at least "bland", I am a chocolate lover through and through. And love many American sweets. Fast forward to this summer and my boyfriend bought me Hershey's kisses (he is also happy to taste new things) and I just laughed. He wondered why, but I told him to taste it and then we laughed together. Our little son was jelous that we had candy and he didn't, but we said "go ahead, you can have some too" and just looked at him trying to keep from laughing as he made faces tasting it. First candy ever that he didn't like but we sure had fun. I really love Swedish, Finnish and English candy, nordic chocolate being my favorite. I hope you will have a chance to try Marabou or Fazer chocolate.
Marabou is the stuff they sell at IKEA! THAT STUFF IS DELICIOUS!!

this should go without saying, but coffee pods
Regardless of what it may say on the label, they aren't actually recyclable. The ones that look like a little bag with a plastic ring at the top are just as bad, there's as much plastic in that ring as there is in an entire cup.
Nespresso ones are made entirely from aluminium and are supposed to be - they even have a collection service.
Load More Replies...Yeah, it would be better if they were recyclable, but they have been a godsend for my S/O who is rapidly losing his eyesight. He can make his own coffee by feel and doesn't have to depend on someone to set up the drip machine for him.
I always thought the pods were for people who didn't know they could put less grounds and water into a regular coffee pot to make less. I still don't know why they exist.
I have a machine that will just grind and brew a single cup from fresh beans. Push button -> get coffee. No pod necessary.
Load More Replies...except single use straws are necessary for a lot of people, either for hygiene or safety reasons. single use coffee pods are purely for convenience, so yes, far worse.
Load More Replies...I have always used reusable! Coffee tastes so much better and fresher when I grind it myself. Those pods are weak, stale, and wasteful AF
Load More Replies...Plastic, yes. But aluminium ones can be fully recycled here. Either having them collected in the bags provided, or by buying a pod separator for £20 which pushes the used coffee out and then you simply wash and pop the empty shells into the same recycling as your cans. Plastic is bad for the machines anyway.
I have one that uses compostable pods. I held off buying a machine for years because of the environmental impact, but once I found the compostable ones, I went for it!
You'd better buy refilling ones or, if you really like coffee and your planet, buy an italian coffee machine.
Load More Replies...I have a reusable that I put my own coffee grounds in. Currently, I'm just using a standard coffee pot since my ten year old Kuerig finally died.
Detoxification miracle products.
"Get all the toxins out of your body!"
You have already have a pancreas and liver.
Edit: and kidney(s)Edit 2: Thanks for the silver!
Edit 2: Glad to see so many people actually are educated about their digestive systems. One of my favorite areas of study right now are the gut microbiome and it's ever increasing known impact on our overall health. So far it really seems like one of the most important factors (if not the most) is the quality of care you give your ol' poop machine. So yeah, don't consume garbage branded as detox products that f**k your colon.
But how could they be bad, they were made by professionals with several minutes of Google searching experience and asking advice from homeless people.
How about the product the pulls the poisons out from the bottom of your feet?!
This one pops up again and again. I remember my aunt trying to get me to buy this 30 years ago!!!
Load More Replies...Yup. Or "energy" from someone who isn't a physicist
Load More Replies...Don't forget the kidneys and spleen! Heck we got many other organs to list. Even the skin cleans itself.
But hey, if you want the real product that does help the body detox it's simply water. Just be hydrated.
Load More Replies...Don't forget all the "organic" peddlers out there. If you do your research you'll find the standard for getting organic on your label is almost nil. To me these vitamin/miracle cure s**t is almost as bad as people relying on horoscopes and astrological signs. Like the crystals people. If I walked into my doctor's office and saw anything saying "the healing power of the crystal," I'd literally run away.
okay but what about detoxing your pits after using aluminum deodorant for years, is that actually necessary or is it bogus as well?
Just eat as clean and healthy as you can and get at least some form exercise. I can't stand fad diets.

Big thanks to all the corporate jerkwads who got our grandparents hooked on nicotine several decades ago! (This is sarcastic lol)
Flavored vape pens are banned in the US and I think they are cracking down on them elsewhere too
Load More Replies...Yeeee cheers to them, but a huge, huge thanks to the one who found ALCOHOL. I mean, why not ? Cheap and you can go to the road and out of nothing, you changed the life of so many people. Some kind of superpower. Ironically of course.
It makes me laugh a bit that people who hate cigarettes are ok with alcohol when both are class A carcinogens. One is socially unacceptable and the other is acceptable. People have their vices we should leave them alone. For the record I don't smoke or drink.
Load More Replies...Might as well ban alcohol then. Equally if not more harmful and deadly.
Prepare for the downbotes lol. I agree with you for what it's worth... theres so many vices in this world: alcohol, tanning, over eating, sugar, diet food, processed food, meat/nitrates, food made to look like other food, pot... a lot of these are carcinogenic. Heck we straight up chew plastic (chewing gum) and yet everyone fixates on cigarettes. My point I don't like cigarettes at all but imo banning a vice is a slippery slope towards reducing personal freedom. Prohibitions don't work.

as a smoker myself i stopped smoking name brands and turned to indian reservation cigarettes. the name brands r raising prices like crazy in new york except the indian reservation cigarettes. a carton at 7/11 is $150 a carton at the indian reservation $34 a single name brand pack is $15. its insane 2 packs cost as much as a carton at the indian reservation. there also is no tax on indian reservation cigarettes as well
Plastic water/soda bottles. Environmentally terrible
I think they mean the single use bottles they have in the US (and many other places) when you have a deposit system (like we do in Scandinavia), where you get money back when you return the bottle, it's a much smaller burden on the environment
Load More Replies...My local supermarket in UK are selling water bottles made from sugar cane. They last up to 2 years!
I like that idea! I hope it catches on everywhere.
Load More Replies...Many people in my town have a lot of rust in their water from old water pipes. The rust stains every thing orange then red and the amount that’s there is really harmful. And filters can only do so much. So they don’t have much of a choice.
We charge people for plastic bottles. The bigger ones for longer than I can remember, 25 cents a bottle, and a new law was just made to charge 10 (or 15, I'm not sure) cents extra on small bottles too. You get the money refunded when you hand the empty bottles in on your next grocery trip. Every supermarket has a machine where you can stick the empty bottles in. Works quite well
Depending where you live bottled war is essential, if you live in certain places, that is your drinking and cooking water. Further after natural disasters and emergencies their are vital. Bottled Soda is changing with Pepsi now owning SodaStream as well as brand switching to new bio-degradable plastics.
In Romania, starting this autumn, people will recieve 0.5 lei (1/8 USD) for each plastic (p.e.t.) bottle brought to special collecting places; a great chance for our nature and for poor rural areas kids, who will collect the billions of bottles in the lakes, rivers, forrests etc.
Maybe if my water was poisonous I would buy bottled water. Don't know.
Any product where marketing is 95% of the production budget
Right? Without all the sugary, sticky sweet crap they add to it, Starbucks is truly horrendous coffee!
Load More Replies...It's very hard to find a trustworthy source of information on any product, because so much effort goes into marketing. I can't find hair-care products that actually work because all recommendations come from someone who has skin in the marketing game somewhere along the way.

Cheap toilet paper that your finger goes right through unless you fold it over several times.
Unless a bidet has a dryer or you sit there until the water evaporates, you still need toilet paper. And sometimes a bidet just doesn't do a thorough job.
Load More Replies...I actually prefer single-ply toilet paper (Scotts, which is safe for septic systems). And you don't fold it; you loosely crumple it. Nor is it necessary to use twice as much as double-ply.
There are crumplers and there are folders. You can't tell a folder to crumple or the other way around, because they will just think you are weird and disgusting.
Load More Replies...If you have a septic tank big wads of crappy toilet paper don't go/break down very well.
Single ply toilet paper is ideal for those of us with septic tanks though. During lockdown last year we could only get 2 and 3 ply and oh boy, the unblocking...
Actually if you have old plumbing you have to use the thin, cheap paper.
Homeopathic “remedies” that are so diluted they might contain one molecule of what they purport to hold. And no, shaking them does not “activate” them. https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/1800-studies-later-scientists-conclude-homeopathy-doesnt-work-180954534/
They are facing a problem im the EU now. They cant be labled by what they are working against (because they don't) and they can't be labled by what's suposed to be in it... because there is almost nothing of it left. So soon they will habe to be labled as what they are... sugar
...and water. I´m so happy they´re facing that now! There was a time it was so stupid to see this pseudoscience s**t being sold as if it were the same as medication.
Load More Replies...It's illegal to claim homeopathic remedies work where I live, and going to real doctors is free, so most people haven't even heard of it here. Thankfully.
Saying that they contain one molecule of the supposed ingedient is actually an overstatement. If you go with so-called "high potency dilutions", you need to consume several tons of the substance to statistically get one molecule of it. D24 would correspond to about one droplet of active ingredient in the atlantic ocean. D80 would correspond to one molecule in the observable universe!
Finally, somebody else is aware of this. And the original premise on why they should work is absolute nonsensical quackery.(i.e. If a cold makes you sneeze, and dust makes you also sneeze, then dust can cure your cold. Now THAT’S science!)
If homeopathic medicine worked, it would just be called medicine.
Yeah. Herbal remedies are really helpful… IF you actually make them correctly.
I hear what you're saying. But.. as a pregnant woman, twice, I had horrible, horrible constipations, my doc could prescribe me only homeopathy for the issue, and it worked every damn time. Now I am not pregnant, but I still use it when the time calls for it, and it still works when nothing else seems to help. Works also on friends. Constipation is not easy to fix. So, it makes you wonder.
The placebo effect is very effective in many cases.

This crap arrived to my country some years ago, apparently barely anyone knew it was a pyramid scheme
Load More Replies...They do help you lose weight...because you're essentially starving yourself. You're filling your stomach with a slightly thicker fluid substance which allows your brain to feel you're full but you are not getting nearly as much as if you'd just eat veggies, fruits, and leaner meats. I lost a lot of weight on Herbalife but immediately gained it all back as soon as I stopped (and when I tried to do it again, I couldn't even stand the shake flavors and nearly threw it up on the first try). I've been on a much more sustainable diet and exercise plan and have lost nearly thirty pounds and feel like it'll stay off much better since my habits have changed.
An MLM, also known as "legal Pyramid Scheme". Terrible stuff. https://www.reddit.com/r/antiMLM/
I've been into this like, 20 years ago, during my college, as I was trying to earn some extra money. I was unable to build a distributors nework because I just couldn't sell all those illusions to people. Like, "in just 3 months you'll earn xxxx dollars"; there's no guarantee for that. It's more likely that you won't earn anything. I didn't do well with products selling either because they were expensive like hell. Plus, most of those who had lost weight initially, gained weight again (including myself). Oh, and that marketing bull***t: "we're not sellers, we are nutritionists". Yeah, sure :)))
Don't tell me they're still in business! My EX tried selling this garbage 20 years ago.
They are in business more than ever as now they spread through the social media and it's easier to find followers...eeem I mean victims!

Fast Fashion clothes
There IS a place for cheap clothing, the problem is people who buy loads of cheap clothes and throw them away after one wear. Those who NEED cheap clothing tend to take care of their stuff and hang onto it.
Barbara Streisand wears ONLY [she said in an interview, probably before you were born] new jeans and after one wearing she throws them away. I don't know the verity of that, but I thought it was interesting. I hate new jeans. Takes forever to break them in.

Fast fashion can be expensive too, regardless of the cheap material
Load More Replies...As an adult, I'm still using the hand-me-downs and secondhand shop finds from when I was a teen, and guess what? Nobody has ever commented negatively on any of it. My hippie boot-fit jeans and self-embroidered solid cotton shirts are still acceptable in society, my old men's suit was easily altered into a female work outfit, and buying a second-hand sweater gave me a trendy knit vest AND matching leg warmers (the sleeves) AND a phone bag (the neck). Seriously, old clothes are so much better than buying new once you find good sources. Ethical, green, cheap.
clothing that is so cheap that it is designed to be worn briefly and then disposed of. It can only be produced in such quantities and at such prices by exploiting cheap labour in developing nations, thereby suppressing these nations' economic development and restricting their citizens human rights. It is made from polluting plastics which end up in landfill. And it is shipped thousands of miles around the world to market in vast quantities using polluting container ships, supporting a distribution industry that relies on yet more cheap labour and polluting delivery vehicles. It's an environmental, economic and human disaster from beginning to end.

I've heard of MLM, but I'm not sure if we have it in Europe? Does anyone know?
We have the Thermomix food processor here in England.. Can not buy it in a store, only buy it through an Agent. £1000. I must admit it makes the best Cheesecake this side of Saturn.

Beats headphone, speakers etc. The headphones are so cheaply made that they put weights in them to make them feel higher quality
Edit: for those asking, you can't go wrong with JBL - they're invincible, affordable and unbelievably high quality for the price.
Edit 2: not saying weight = quality, I'm saying that people think weight = quality
Other excellent headphone manufacturers include Sennheiser, Klipsche, Audio Technica, Sony (they have a wide range including some very good stuff) and Bose (overpriced, but better than Beats).
I have the Sennheiser HD 202s, cost $32.00 and sound better than almost any headphones I've ever had.
Load More Replies...Bought a pair of JBL from Target for $40. I always knew JBL to be high quality so I was kind of shocked and hesitant that they were $40. Those are the best headphones ever.
It depends on how you plan on using them. If you are looking for headphones to wear at home and not on the go, Koss Pro 4AA is the way to go. There's a reason they have been making them exactly the same for more than 50 years. The audio quality is great, and the physical durability is unmatched. You're more likely to break something with them, than break them with something else.
Agreed: JBL makes great products, as does SONY (I've had my SONY speaker for almost a decade - still going strong, and my headphones for about five years - also still going strong).
I once had to buy some, and saw some very cheap headphones, Bludio T2, so got into youtube and saw a video a guy comparing Beats vs Sennheiser vs Bludio, and he was impressed by the sound quality the Bludio gave vs the price ($30 vs the 200 Sennheiser vs 500 Beats) and, besides the hardware quality of the Bludio, he recomended them 100%.
I'm so satisfied with my Audio Technica headphones all the bass, treble and beautiful midrange I ever want are there and tthey are 's only $50 at Amazon
Stuff with microbeads.
Seriously, how was this ever legal in the first place and why is it still legal?
Edit, apparently mictobeads were mostly banned in the US (where majority of redditors are from) in 2018 (enacted 2015) but I missed that. However, this is not a strict ban as they are still allowed in "non-rinse off" products such as make-up or pillow stuffing and you can order large quantities of them on Amazon. So while this is a step in the right direction, it is certainly not good enough. Furthermore, they should be banned worldwide like CFCs were as their environmental impact is equally as bad.

Printer ink cartridges.
What's wrong with razor blades? Much cheaper than those plastic razors, selling for 10 bones a pop. I can get a box of 50 razor blades for less.
Load More Replies...Just get a laser printer. Most toners can run 1,000+ pages before you're in need of a new one.
can laser printers these days do color, though? we've got one from the early 90s that still runs like a champ, but it only does black and white and is impossible to find cartridges for.
Load More Replies...Honestly this just depends on the printer spec / manufacturer. People need to do their research before they buy printers. I used to work tech support for them and people buy photo printers they don't actually need thinking more expensive = better so often. You wouldn't buy yourself a full set of Rotrings or Copics to do your homework so don't buy an inappropriate printer and then complain about the price of consumables. Inks for your Canons / Epsons etc are high end. These printers are designed for a print quality the average consumer does not need. There is a fancy print head *in* the printer that you *need* to maintain with correctly formulated ink that's produced in a clean room or contaminants will damage your expensive unit, end of. If you don't want hassle / cost don't buy them, they are for artists, photographers, designers etc. HP are better for infrequent use / accommodating to refills as the print head is *on* the cartridge so if it's damaged you can replace it.
What do you suggest printers run on, people hated on dot matrix printers. Printer ink needs to be packed a certain way so that and shipping is unfortunately most of the cost of them rather than the ink itself.
laser printers! we have one that still works that's from the early 90s, but it's impossible to find toner cartridges for these days.
Load More Replies...Aaaaaand that's a lot of printers going to landfill so you can save 3 bucks.
Load More Replies...I bought a Hewlett Packard scanner/copier/printer for $69 (in my currency) and when the four cartridges ran out all at the same time, their replacement price was $149. So, a perfectly good scanner/copier/printer went into the wheelie bin and I bought a new one – for $69. That is really bad, on so many levels.
Diet shakes/pills/teas etc
If they work we would not see overweight people around because everybody would take them. I wish that they existed and you could eat as much as you want.
There is only one diet I know of that works, it's the shut your mouth diet.
It's my first diet and it's going fantastic! Learned the s**t about nutrition and calories and protein etc. An hour walk or gym 4 times a week. No super diet bla bla bla. Been watching my mother going that road for 30 years and finally she got it when I motivated her with my results 🥰
LOL surprise Toys or any such surprise toy , they sell like crazy and the whole idea is to buy them open the wrapper and see what you have got , once opened the toy is never used
That really depends on the person. Some people collect and trade while some DO actually play with them.
Aren't there enough old plastic toys around to fill demand for every child without manufacturing more, and more, and more while the planet burns? Collecting anything that is newly made should be looked on with the same revulsion as any other plastic waste.
Load More Replies...I duuno... I remember when LEGO did this with minifigs, it was pretty cool.
I loved the times, when, whe you buy a Kinder surprise chocolate, inside of it there was a 'toy' that you can made a collection of hippos or sharks.. also Nutella solded in glasses with prints of those hippos or sharks on them to use for a drink
But kids love them. I’m not saying I don’t think they’re dumb, but a kids love for them is valid wether or not an adult thinks they’re dumb. Toys are made to bring joy to children, whatever floats their boat
Microtransactions in games.
The cosmetic ones I can understand, they can be fun, but the pay to win ones are terrible and yet they make millions every year.
For me ideally there shouldn't be any but i understand the cosmetic ones in free games. But microtransactions in a paid game? Bullshit
Yeah, if you want that badass skin, go for it, blow your cash, but as long as it cannot enhance your gameplay, fine
Load More Replies...On one hand, I like the free games you can play with ads so you can try out a bunch of games without spending a fortune. On the other hand, if I am watching ads to play the game then I shouldn't be hounded to buy a million microtransactions in the game. I wish more games had the option of buying the full game when you know you like it so you could get rid of ads and microtransactions, but they make more money that way than selling them whole.
because today many games have 300-400 million dollar budgets, and if they sell well they will make about 1 billion in revenue in sales (though in profit after all expenses about 200-300 million dollars), not to mention how many high budget games flop. Therefore the companies need ways to earn money to keep profits and cover the expenses of failed games. This is just part of businesses. Lootboxes are gambling and are being banned, which is good, but transactions are the only way you are getting your AAA titles, which btw those profits are also what allow the companies to take risk on publishing indie games, many which barely break even.
Some of these are great products, depending on whom you are. The consumer or the retailer. Gaming studios don't work for free.
Yeah no one's referring to Candy Crush here, gaming studios make money off the £60 box price thanks.
Load More Replies...Hey. Fortnite making millions in profits for a shirt or dance move and suing the company they signed a contract agreeing to the terms is completely American.
Hartz brand pet flea treatments/medication. It's dangerous and has been the cause of death for many pets. IIRC it's a nerve agent that's supposed to make the pet's blood toxic to fleas.
I used some on my cat once and she started freaking out, then had trouble waking normally (her legs were twitching and kicking, clearly out of her control), and tears of brown thick liquid started streaming down her face. I picked her up and frantically gave her a bath hoping to wash any of the remaining chemicals off the back of her neck before any more of that poison seeped into her skin.
Hartz is made in China, and it is garbage. Don't buy ANYTHING from China meant for consumption or for topical use, for yourself or your pets. There are very minimal regulations regarding quality control, labeling or the use of certain ingredients over there, so you can never be sure of what you're getting.
My 15-year-old cat was acting lethargic, hardly eating, rapidly deteriorating out of nowhere... I thought it was the end. I started preparing myself for a trip to the vet to have him euthanized. Devastated! Suddenly realized the only change was that he'd been wearing a flea collar the past few days. Did some Googling and read HORROR STORIES. I'd never heard about this problem before! Took that thing off him and he returned to his old self within a couple days. How are flea collars even legal?? P.S. My old boy lived for another 3 years. Grateful for the time we had with him.
i use frontline, never heard of hartz (i'm in italy) but i'll be making sure never to get any!!! had no idea :/
Same Naima, I'm in Australia. * also yes I buy all my meds for cats from the vet. It may be more expensive, but I *KNOW * it will work and is safe.
Load More Replies...My daughter told my mom not to put flea medicine on her cat. While daughter was at work, mom did it anyway. When she got home, she couldn't find the cat. When she finally did, she had white foam running down her chin and was shaking. Luckily got it washed off and she was ok, but had she not gotten home when she did, cat probably would be dead
selamectin is ok for cats (never ever heard about any issue) but there are bad products. And some dog products are neurtoxic for cats (and some junk "cat" products are also neurotoxic for cats)
Load More Replies...Never, ever buy a flea collar that says it can last for 3-4 months. It is such a highly concentrated dose of the product, supposedly time released ("Soresto is one in the U.S) I have seen cats get skin lesions from these, suffer seizures, suffer critical asthma or breathing distress. Just too much, too strong. I don't know why they're allowed to be sold.
Fruits that have to be repackaged individually.
I saw some potatoes at Walmart individually wrapped.
Load More Replies...I work on movie sets and when Covid happened and we had a lot of background artists in, we had to package EVERY INDIVIDUAL FRUIT, like every apple, orange, banana and it was in plastic bags 😭 thankfully things are better now but my gawd it was SO WASTEFUL
Well, that's just stupid. Don't eat fruit if it's packaged? Maybe in some places, that is just how it is presented to the consumer at the point of sale. Eat your goddamned fruit, people. If it's packaged, recycle as much as you can.
you''re unhappy with mother nature? nope, it's not the fruits. its whoever amongst us decided to do that dumb thing...
Cable TV (from major providers)
They made money f*****g people over and then when streaming services changed the game they decided to continue finding new ways to f**k you over. God help you if you live in a rural area.
There is absolutely no reason to have cable anymore. I have Netflix, Disney+, Amazon prime, Hulu and Funimation subscriptions and all of them combined cost a fraction what cable does,. Include limitless on demand content (much of which is better than anything on cable) and without 30% of the air time being commercials. Cable is dead. It died a horrible and well disserved death and it will not be missed.
Lots of people can only get internet through cable providers and often the "bundle deal" is the cheapest option. I'm so glad I live in a place with cheap, easy high speed internet but in some parts of the US and Australia they are still poorly connected and very over priced.
Load More Replies...Even better was when “pay” TV first came out telling us we would no longer have to watch commercials. HA HA! How long did that last?
This is because govt granted monopolies in certain areas to one company. There is only one American city where there are no such monopolies and there are 4 cable providers and 9 internet providers in every area, with super cheap prices. Just get rid of the govt granted monopolies
Blame local governments (towns and cities) who started it by signing exclusivity contracts with the companies who installed cable throughout them. As time went on and the various cable companies were bought up by larger companies... who were, in turn, bought up by even larger companies, those contracts remained in effect. Still do in many places.
Yes, my HOA just signed a contract that forces residents to have spectrum service. You are free to buy another service but you are still charged for the spectrum service. Also since its part of the HOA dues you can lose your house for not paying the cable bill.
Load More Replies...We have to have a licence to have a TV, even if you don't watch public broadcasting and just use it as a monitor.
Not to mention the fact that the majority of the channels they supply us with do not offer any decent, intelligent programming.
Why I don't have cable. The city I live in decides which channels are offered. I really do not want 4 religious channels, 5 shopping networks, and six sport networks. When I can get them ala carte, I will reconsider getting cable. ( none of the sport networks actually show any teams I am interested in.)
There's an old IT joke about being in a room with three truly despicable people and a printer and a gun with two bullets. Who would you shoot? The answer for IT people is you would shoot the printer twice.
I had to get a new printer this year because the one we bought 3 years ago stopped working and there was no way to fix it. I wanted to toss it out the window.
Only do it if you're more than 10 floors up - we don't want to risk having it survive!

I was a CSM when everything was still done by snail mail. My printer would literally smoke after about 20 pages. I had a lot of stuff to print out and this was a big work printer. It worked so they would not replace it. People would actually come watch it. They joked about toasting marshmallows. I saved that company so much money because everyone came to me to fix their printer and computer problems because they knew the IT company contracted was worthless. Took days to show up.
My mom once threw her printer down a flight of stairs before going at it with an axe. She said it felt amazing.
Pay-to-win games
And games that cut the ending so you need to buy DLCs. I am looking at you EA...
RIP Maxis, Bullfrog, and all the other good soldiers. Rest in peace.

People don't seem to understand supply and demand OR personal preference/responsibility. If any of these companies in this post didn't make a ton of money, they wouldn't keep selling their products. So obviously a LOT of people like everything in this post. And basically demanding something should be banned because YOU don't like it, is narcissistic and elitist. Your opinions matter more than anyone else's?
Fifa
Cricket in India too... So many millions are poured into it every year. The disgusting thing is, one of our country's popular cricket league was going on right when second wave was at the peak and people were dying due to shortage of medical facilities and staff.

Lottery tickets.
Gambling will always exist. State-run lotteries at least have some small benefit to them. In Wisconsin (where I live), 57% of lottery revenue goes to prize money, 30% has been allocated to reducing property taxes for state residents, 6% to benefit businesses in the state, and only another 6% to operate the whole system. The Illinois lottery gives a chunk of its proceeds to fund public education.
In Massachusetts, the net profit (usually around a billion USD) is returned to our 351 cities and towns without strings.

He’s in pest control, and has to go into crawl spaces and climb into attics, so I really can’t begrudge him his one beer to help him wind down when he gets home. Anyway, you should see the line of people spending their paychecks on lottery tickets. If they invested that money instead, they’d actually have something by now.
When it was voted in in California it was suppose to be paying for the schools to get what they needed. But all these years and teachers are still paying out of pocket for so many necessities. 🤬

WILDLY Overpriced micro transactions in video games, it’s genuinely absurd. 25 dollars for a little outfit for your character in a first person shooter where you do not see your little outfit is a perfect example.
Alienware computers. They used to be genuinely top-of-the-line gaming machines, expensive but well balanced and good bang for your buck. Then Dell bought them and ran the productline into the ground, stuffing them with way too much RAM and way too little everything else but keeping the premium price. The brand still has enough cultural momentum among teenage gamers, however, that they still sell despite the terrible pricepoint.
It was, however, always cheaper to build the same spec system yourself, without the badge.
was is probably the key word. i used to always build my own. but over the last decade or so? and also, my needs have changed some...but i can't imagine it'd be any real savings to put together a rig to compete with what you can buy. couple hundred bucks, maybe...

It's not still being sold by the millions (I hope!), but the hot gift of Christmas 1975 was the pet rock. It was literally a rock picked up from a beach in Mexico put in a box with air holes and a cute list of how to take care of it like it was a real pet. The guy who came up with the idea sold more than a million of them at $4 a pop, which was not bad money at all in the mid-70s. The product has been relicensed as of about a decade ago by a different company. I'm very happy they haven't found a million new customers among the new generations.
When these were a fad most kids wouldn't accept home made ones. If they weren't "official" pet rocks they were worthless, but official pet rocks were ... More expensive. And basically nothing else
Load More Replies...Jefferson's offended that you didn't pick him.

So many kids fads have been stupid. Nothing like pet rocks, but were pogs really much better? Does anyone even know what you were supposed to do with them?
Literally any sport games that come out once a year
but but but....think of the poor workers. if they actually waited til they had a good reason to release a whole new game...hundreds of workers doing the annual busy work....would be thrust out into the cold cruel world with the rest of us schmoes...
All that changes is a little in the graphics, and the player names... Surely a DLC would work for that rather than a whole new game?
NBA 2K franchise. just keeps getting progressively worse, more Ads, more incentives to spend money, gameplay barely changes
Hmm, I don't remember reading that EA bought the 2K Franchise but from your description, it sounds like they have.
Bottled Air
Is this really a thing.? How.? Where ? Who? What.? Wait,... What.?
In countries that are heavily polluted, oxygen bars are also a thing. If a person lives in a smoggy city and literally never gets a breath of fresh air, bottled air is a luxury.
Shark cards, gold bars, or any other micro-transaction which gives you virtual money in a world you'll be playing alot *anyway*, so you'd be getting that money anyway.
Funko pop
Uh ... no? That's not what this is about. "Vynil" is PVC, and therefore it is plastic ... whatever you make from it, a round disc that mechanically stores information (like music), rain jackets, inverse-rain panties, ... not the point. Or maybe halfway the point - these things have an actual use, while Funkopops don't do any else but looking the same with different paint, regardless of who is attempted to be resembled.
