OK, folks, you might want to keep your GPS on while scrolling through this one because we're heading into the land of 'Terrible Maps.'
It's a bumpy ride, full of wrong coordinates and not-very-helpful legends, however, the unexpected twists and turns are what make it so memorable.
This fun online project, dedicated to geographically incorrect entertainment, features such gems as 'The World According To Fish' and 'What Pedestrian [Signs] Look Like Across Europe.'
Even though its content might not get you from point A to point B, the pictures can, in fact, teach you something and put a smile on your face.

I'm having a cr*ppy morning, but this made me laugh in spite of myself :D
World Map According To Fish
Sure, silly maps can be really amusing, but with the growing importance of issues such as climate change, migration, environmental degradation, spatial epidemiology, and inequalities, you could say that geography has become one of the most relevant subjects you can study.
The UK's Royal Geographical Society, for example, is certain that geography helps us to explore and understand space and place, recognizing the great differences in cultures, political systems, economies, landscapes, and environments across the world, and exploring the links between them.

"Geography also provides an ideal framework for connecting and bringing together other fields of knowledge," the organization wrote on its website.
"Geography is, in the broadest sense, an education for life and for living. Learning through geography – whether gained through formal learning or experientially through travel, fieldwork, and expeditions – helps us all to be more socially and environmentally sensitive, better informed, and more responsible as citizens and employees."

I know I might get downvoted but I hate all the hate the us gets for mm/dd/yyyy or not using metric or Celsius. No one was alive when that was chosen and if it were up to me I would absolutely do what the rest of the world does because it makes more sense but at this point it’s practically too late to change it. (edit: typed something wrong)
Much easier to compare dates. Of course, I prefer yyyy-mm-dd, which is fully sortable.
I prefer 23 May 2023. Unfortunately, I can't use all numbers because I'm American and no one would understand what I meant. Also, it we're talking about computer files, I use 2023-05-23 to keep them chronological.
Yeah, but nobody cares about other countries if there is a way to bash the US about something.
Load More Replies...Same with celsius. You lot are dumb. Made an account for this so make it work.
Fun story. My ex was born on April 7, so it was written as 7/4/1971 on her passport. So of course, when she immigrated to the US, they copied the date off her passport and gave her a Fourth of July birthday! Because OF COURSE U. S. Immigration officials think everybody else in world uses the U.S. date format!
Yeahhh, as it should be. Sorry, but that's what I'm used to so that's the normal for me. Any other way is just odd.
Normal for you doesn't mean logical. Would you write the time with the minutes first?
Load More Replies...Because it leads to ambiguity, particularly on the internet. If I'm on a website and it says "Offer ends 05/02/2023" is that fifth of February (as the rest of the world sees it) or second of May (as *only* the US sees it)? I shouldn't have to spend time wondering which system is used, and as the US system makes the least sense and is the least used, we should standardise around something else. The best system is, of course, yyyy-mm-dd which is unambiguous and also makes files stay in date order when ordering by name.
Load More Replies...becuase we're stubborn and don't return a gift ( thanks england for this)
Those two countries also use the imperial system. Edit: Oh damn I'm dumber than I thought I was
"those two countries" okay: 1=USA... what is the second one? ;)
Load More Replies...No. The US just thinks its special to the point where we had to spell words differently from the English because we wanted to be different. Dumb. And yes, I am a US citizen. It is also stupid that we are the only country that doesn't use the metric system.
Well to be fair, the month does come first - May 24th 2023. It's not 24th May 2023. Maybe 24th OF May 2023.

And while you could argue that these folks are biased, geography students can back up their words; they find their courses enjoyable and interesting.
The 2020 National Student Survey, which is completed by final-year students in every UK university, revealed that 88% of the respondents studying geography were satisfied with the overall quality of their course; higher than the 83% national average for all respondents.

Furthermore, an analysis by the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) also noted that Geography students are more likely to complete their degree than students of most other subjects. The dropout rate among students is the third lowest across all subjects.
I wonder, have any of these maps made it to their classes?
