Ten Years Ago I Sent A Text To The Wrong Number And The Guy Who Replied Is Now My Husband!!

Who would have thought that in that day I was actually texting my future husband!!!

RELATED:

But let me rewind the story a bit….

22 year old me, living in Augusta, Georgia. My mom and younger sister lived in Ohio and I would occasionally drive up to visit them. I would hang out with my sister and her friends quite often and we’d text off and on.

I had this habit of sending encouraging messages to all my contacts from time to time. On this particular morning I was at work and I decided to text a verse from Philippians, just as I was getting ready to send, the office phone rang so I had save it as a draft. I got caught up with work and life that I had forgotten all about the text until I got home around 8pm.

A couple minutes later I got an unexpected response.

I: “amen to that, who’s this?”

B: “this is Brenda, Roxi’s sister, remember me?

I: “ I don’t think we’ve ever met, my name is Isaiah Stearns”

I apologized for having the wrong number but he said it was no worries and he went on to ask me about my day and what that particular verse meant to me and so we expanded a bit on that. We texted for a bit and I found that he was also living in Ohio so I mentioned I had family there and all of that so he asked if it was ok to call me sometime.

At first I was hesitant but then though “oh sure, why not!”

I still remember the first time he called and I purposefully didn’t answer the phone hoping he’d leave a voicemail just so I could hear his voice. Maybe by hearing his voice first I could tell if he was a creep or not lol

Thankfully he left a voicemail and his voice didn’t sound creepy!

I called him back and we talked for a bit. We got to know each other better through calls, texting, and also fb messenger. But it was just like an online friendship. I didn’t think much of it really.

But the more we talked the more I kind of liked him, but deep inside it was all so ‘weird’

    My mom dated him first!!!

I mentioned him to my mom and she was like “where does he work at? Or what gym does he go to? I’ll check him out for you!”

It’s funny because eventually they went on a date!!!
My mom, my youngest sister, and Isaiah!

All this while I was still living on another state!!

So they ate and talked and had a good time. I remember hyperventilating inside the bathroom waiting for my mom to call me!

The first thing my sister said to me was:

“Omg sister he is soooo tall! He is bigger than the door!”

“Okay mami so from 1 to 10 how would you rate him??

    And she said to me:

“11, you’re going to marry this guy!”

I moved to Ohio on November 29th 2009 and finally met isaiah face to face on December 1st…. just TWO MONTHS after my initial text!

We started dating with the intention of marrying each other. I was 22 and he was 27.

    I said YES!!

On Valentine’s Day he invited me over to his place. There were rose petals everywhere like a red carpet going down the stairs, he cooked dinner for us and made me feel so special! When it was time for dessert he went down on his knee and asked me to marry him!

We got married in June 27th 2010

Ten years and five beautiful kids later!

    We are happier than ever!!

One thing that amazes me is that right before I sent that initial text, Isaiah had gotten a new phone plan and the number they originally gave him wouldn’t work so they gave him a different number and he was able to set that second one up. A few minutes later he got my text.

If I had sent that text in the morning, he would have never gotten it.

If the first number they gave him would have worked, he would have never gotten my text.

The Lord orchestrated everything in His perfect way at the right timing.

You have a lovely family, and your mother and sister seem amazingingky supportive and protective. Thank you for inspiring us to continue being kind and believe in the beauty of platonic romance. Your evolution of it into romantic love is beautiful. Thank you again for sharing.

Wow. Ignore the snarky commenter, they have an obvious bias. It’s a cute story and you have a beautiful family and I’m glad you posted it.

If you're going to brag about your life on a site dedicated to arts and crafts and - yes - also internet flashes-in-the-pan, you might want to do so only if you are not proving that you don't consider right and wrong before making big life decisions. Five children in this day and age is immoral. You are contributing to over-population which is at the root of so much suffering, and will be the cause of the 6th major extinction event, climate change which will cause untold suffering, etc. Shame on you. Bragging about having so many kids is like bragging about seeing a prostitute or bragging about cheating on your taxes. Worse, because those things won't really cause long-term harm, whereas the cumuliative effect of people having too many kids will cause harm for likely 100s of thousands of years.

Overpopulation and the competition for resources are serious problems that wreck havoc on the environment, contribute to overcrowding and the surfeit of laborers to take up a spot in sweatshop/factories among so many other things, leading to a dearth of food and other resources. I believe in having smaller families, adopting/fostering, living your life for yourself and finding meaning for it in other ways. Loving and starting a big family is not the same as evading taxes or charging for sexual activities. Cheating on taxes do cause long term harm by the way, and the behaviors of the ones doing so in callous ways bleed over in other facets of their lives (the extremely rich). Courtesans and prostitutes have a long place in history and shaping politics. I suggest you switch over to coffee, and save your comment for another article. It does have valid points, but you seriously need to polish it or better yet work on how it came across.
