One of the many things I appreciate as a designer is the Taiwanese attention to detail in architecture and interiors. In my travels, temples have always attracted my attention the most, with their delicately painted murals, detailed hand carvings, the outstanding craftsmanship of the temple furniture, the bright colours, the smoky interiors and the record of history within the walls.
Temples roofs have often been the most inaccessible areas for examining the amazing intricate details, designs and religious symbols. I have spent hours talking to temple staff and they have given me access to photograph upper floors, roof tops and back rooms that are off limits to the general public. They have shared their knowledge of the architect and their history, and have guided me around the buildings and grounds, proud of their traditions and heritage.
The Reflected Series goes back to my graphic design roots, and I have spent hours cutting and multi-layering designs to create unique patterns. The true talent of the architectural craftsmanship still inspires me and I love discovering new ways to show their work.
