Swift Bird In Trouble Rescued!

Have You ever heard about Swift Birds? They are truly Amazing Creatures! Swifts are notorious for their stunning lifestyle. Beside the fact that they’re one of the fastest speeding birds in the World, they could fly non-stop in the sky for about 10 months without any landing at all! That means that they eat, sleep and even mate in the sky, while flying! Eventually, they would land on their nests just to lay eggs and raise their offspring. Swifts would build their nests at rooftop walls, cliffs or other well hidden, high from the ground places.

Swift Birds’ legs are very short while their wings are long. So if a Swift is unfortunate enough to fell on the ground, it could be in a serious trouble. They cannot took off from a flat surfaces! That means that they could die of starving, or become an easy meal for predators, such as cats or birds of prey. And that is the reason why they never land on the ground. Unless there is some kind of emergency.

And probably, that was the case last month, while I was working on a TV Project, called The Farm, nearby Sofia, Bulgaria. It all happened on a very windy evening, a thunder storm was coming. And suddenly, I saw a struggling Bird on the ground. It was a Swift. Poor guy was unable to fly off the ground. So I took Him carefully in my hands and checked on Him to see if He was injured. He looked pretty healthy. I was aware that He probably lost His balance somehow because of the stormy winds and as a result, he ended on the ground, being unable to took off. It was around midnight, and the Storm was getting stronger, so I put Him in a comfy box and we went home.

A few hours later, the Storm was over. It was already a beautiful sunny morning. I took my little Swift Bird friend and I drove to a nice open-air field nearby my home. I took him in my hand, carefully raised it high and he spread his wings and took off! He got very lucky! He made it to the sky, just in time for the very important migration season. I hope He’s doing well! :)

Hey there, Pandas! My name is Diana (though some prefer to refer to me as Diane, Deanna, and even Liana sometimes), and I am a Community Post Moderator Lead for Bored Panda. As my position title states, I am one of the people (employed Pandas for bamboo) over here who work with the community side of things on this website to ensure all is well, and while at that, I also help various creators and artists get recognition for the incredible work they do by connecting them to a large worldwide audience. Other than that, outside of work, you can find me brewing a nice cup of coffee, making a pizza from scratch, or baking brownies. I also love traveling, concerts, and cats (heavy on that, because I am a cat mom).
