I Created A Swan From 300 Recycled Plastic Buckets To Show Recycling Is Beautiful

My name is Thomas Dambo. I’m a Danish artist and my mission is to draw our attention to positive things we can do with trash.

This week I made a swan out of approximately 300 recycled plastic buckets. It is a commission for the Nordic Council. It took 4 months for the Council to collect enough of plastic buckets from their cafeteria for my 4-meter big sculpture.

These plastic buckets were used to contains different types of food: fish, yoghurt, ketchup, etc. I think the cafeteria serves around 100 employees. I believe there are a lot of cafeterias like this in the world. I hope my art will inspire people to do the same.

I appreciate the time (and blisters) it took to make this. It looks well-thought out. Using stuff that usually goes into the landfills was an extra special touch. Hope to see more of your work soon.
