Propaganda Postcards From The Early 20th Century Show The Dangers Of Women’s Rights

These unbelievable vintage postcards from the early 1900s were used as propaganda by men to stop women from having more rights. Although The Suffragettes campaigned tirelessly to change the status quo of the day, many men found the idea of women’s rights not only disagreeable but even downright dangerous.

Because of this, propaganda postcards like the ones below were produced. They come from the archive of Catherine H. Palczewski, a professor of women’s and gender studies at the University of Northern Iowa who’s been collecting them for the last 15 years. The postcards portrayed the idea of change as something to be feared, not embraced, and they promoted women’s rights as an attack against family values as well as an infringement upon man’s place in society. While we still have a long way to go before women have the same rights as men, these postcards serve as a reminder of how far we’ve come since the turn of the 20th Century. (h/t: vintage everyday)

I am the daughter of a single dad, and the pictures that show fathers taking care of their children as wrong make me sad because my dad has worked really hard in parenting and has done a great job. <3 I hate how women in these posters are shown as only fit for housework and not worthy of any say in our society.

Being able to vote is a privilege that our grandmothers fought very hard for. And it's one that many women in the world still don't have (much less any say whatsoever about their bodies or their lives) It is up to us, now, to make sure women are also being taken seriously. Looking at the media and the world around me there is still a hell of a long way to go.

Nowadays these drawings seem outrageous. Just think how many of today's matters of course will seem outrageous in 100 years. Denying climate change? Overburden resource usage? Locking out refugees? Brexit? Animal cruelty? Homophobia? You could endlessly add items to the lists of things that are either morally wrong or ignore the facts but just seem to feel right for many.

It's surprising how much of a kick you get out of doing things yourself. I've fitted electrical sockets, fixed a leaking toilet and recently replaced a breaklight bulb on my car. I think if we all played the gender card a little less and made the effort to figure it out ourselves, men would have less of a chance to feel quite so superior to women!

We've come a long way, babes... and still have a long way to go... I found some of these pictures truly nauseating and not funny at all, except I suppose for the men who shared them. The general idea of a suffragette being a hateful, never really loved girl or woman and taking it out on all men, starting with hubby (wonder how she caught that one!), is revolting.

i'm sorry men treated their women with such disdain. it is reversed with the men having to suffer. the women today have as a whole lost touch with their feminine side. those posters are funny yes, but in reality its propangada to have us divided as a country. Its easier to sway one side than to please everyone. also keep in mind how much more income tax would be if both sexes worked. ALCU later i say. woman wouldnt you prefer to be at home? especially mothers. its something to think of about.

No, some of us actually want to go out and do stuff. I actually quite dislike cooking, cleaning and gardening. I don't like taking care of children, but I mastered 9th-grade math when I was 11 and made a science experiment on genomes and DNA at 9. We don't really prefer to be at home.

to honestly tell you, as a girl i should be horrified but im not, becuase some of omen have gone too far to deny our biological purpose and just think were built like men and sometimes ignore responsibilities and even hurt men ithout thinking about their rights. if e dont stop then a man hitting us would remind us that we are scared women ho are in a ay inferior than them. no i dont want domestic violence or womens rights to be denied or for my own delf as a female to be abused by man, but we are different i agree iagree with us covering ourselves more and not running after the idea of being a man and being happy with who we are. some women do push it far and do not realise the effect that their bitching can cause and think theycan get away ith it. sometimes women dont allow men to judge them but allow themselves to judge men which was what we fought for early on to be stopped ourselves. i believe a girly woman and in domestic role is not a setback for all women if they like it

Some are Truth seekers like you. Who want to see the world in perfect balance. Women like you I love. Because we men are known for being the offender, the aggressive one. So it's easy for a woman to get away with murder. We need to understand our difference and educate each other on our roles and biological build up as humans. Feminism need to go. And us men need to trust women again.

These men can collectively go and f**k themselves. Their contempt and resentment being soooo threathened didn't pay off. And they are where the dinosaurs are now ;-D

When the Gender wars finish and women have won I expect everything to be hunk dory. Women are known for getting along with one another.
