Students Dumps “Recycable” Waste On College’s Front Lawn In A Bold Statement
I teamed up with Ramapo College of New Jersey recycling team & volunteers to show how much “recyclable” waste just 9% of the campus producing in ONE WEEK, which was over 130 POUNDS!
Recycling is eco-friendly but not the most sustainable method. The water bottle that you may recycle, that gets made into a water bottle again, may not be recycled in its second life…
Many places, incluidng Ramapo, have “single-stream” recycling. Single-stream recycling may be more convenient, but, it’s also to blame for a huge increase in contamination that makes your recycling unrecyclable. Contamination leads to recyclable items getting tossed to landfills. About 25% of what ends up in the blue bins is contaminated, according to the National Waste & Recycling Association.
Not to mention only 9% of all plastic ever made has been recycled to begin with (reported by Great Britain’s Royal Statistical Society)!
