Man, this brings back memories. Awkward, uncomfortable, walking up to strangers' doors memories.
I'm not saying it's enough to pay all my bills. I'm also not saying I'll say no if it shows up in my mailbox.
The irony is that if the US hadn't been so negligent in building a proper welfare system, they wouldn't have to spend trillions of dollars now on useless stimulus checks that won't even cover the rent. They are handing out glasses of water to people that are drowning.
Other nations have programs that have allowed their economies to remain relatively stable, by doing what? Compensating for wages lost to Covid, so peopel can 1. buy and 2. sell and therefore 3. stay in business which 4. keeps people employed! See how that works? ....
I'm guessing Congress doesn't see how it works.
Load More Replies...Hmmm...I am not sure what to think of this...here in Hungary, nobody got a single penny of financial help...so while I totally understand that $600 is not a huge amount over there, it's still something. At least one can put food on the table or this amount might cover the rent. I was taught not to complain about something you get for free.
It's not free; it's a loan against future taxes.

Between insurance, police brutality, stimulus checks, etc....American government doesn't give a crap about its people. Without people who will fight the wars, keep economy going, etc? C'mon, government, treat your people better. It's like a job - treat your employees well and they will stay.
Except we are not the employees of the government. THEY are supposed to SERVE US. They are the public servants. We are the people; their boss.
Load More Replies...It took the IRS 9 months to send me the 1st one. They kept sending it to the wrong address. Multiple phone calls over 9 months finally got me someone who was a competent employee to send it to the right address. Now I have to wait another 9 months for $600? F**k this s**t.
i still don´t see, why people who are forced "not to work" are not paid, but rents have to be paid, where houses already exist. XD
According to Yahoonews, Trump wanted to give us all $2000, but was told not suggest it because it would interfere with negotiations between the parties....
Yes, because the GOP doesn't want to spend more than $1 trillion on financial support for the people who need it. Trump was talked out of demanding $2k stimulus checks by White House aides because otherwise the GOP, lead by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, would block all negotiations with the Democrats and no one would get any money. Republicans really do not care about people.
Load More Replies...You guys know that the stimulus check isn't supposed to replace your income, right? They're hoping you spend it so the economy becomes, you know, stimulated.
You know that millions are out of work, millions haven't received backlogged unemployment and millions are desperately trying to keep a roof over their head, right?

Correct me if I am wrong, but I understood that ALL American citizens got those stimulus cheques, no matter where they are. For example, Americans living in Europe and earning good salaries also got it. Why not prioritise to help those who are actually in need?
I know several Americans abroad who got it too. They sent it back to their families in the US.

It's not free money, it's our future tax dollars that WE have to pay, and nearly all of it is being given directly to businesses so that THEY can stay afloat while we drown.

Load More Replies...I would prefer if they only gave stimulus check to the people who need it. That would mean I dont get one but it would also mean that those who actually need the money could get more.
