How Steven Fisher Found His Artistic Voice

An inspirational teacher can ignite creativity and foster a lifelong passion for art. Steven Fisher stands out as a dynamic artist whose journey began in the halls of his middle school. Fisher reflects on the pivotal role played by his art teacher, Ms. Deanna Pfarr, during those formative years. It was in the act of drawing and doodling that he truly thrived.

As his doodles began to attract attention, it became clear that Fisher’s talent for art could not be overlooked. Ms. Pfarr, recognizing his potential, initiated a meeting with his mother. This conversation proved to be a turning point in Fisher’s life, igniting a zest that would carry him through high school and beyond.

In high school, Fisher encountered another influential mentor, Mr. Kreis, whose guidance introduced him to a broader spectrum of artistic experiences. The transformative journey continued at Bowling Green State University, where he met Mr. Robert Mazour. Mazour’s approach to teaching was not about imparting specific techniques but rather about encouraging students to discover their own artistic voices. He taught Fisher to explore freely—mixing mediums, researching processes, and ultimately empowering him to express his personal perspective. This environment of exploration became the cornerstone of Fisher’s artistic identity.

Today, Steven Fisher challenges limits and experiments with the intersections of different artistic disciplines. His path from a doodling middle school student to a celebrated artist serves as an example of the profound impact of mentorship and the importance of fostering creativity at a young age. Through his hyper-energetic and vibrantly colorful artwork, Fisher echoes the acceptance he received from those pivotal teachers who believed in him and his art.

Hey there, Pandas! My name is Diana (though some prefer to refer to me as Diane, Deanna, and even Liana sometimes), and I am a Community Post Moderator Lead for Bored Panda. As my position title states, I am one of the people (employed Pandas for bamboo) over here who work with the community side of things on this website to ensure all is well, and while at that, I also help various creators and artists get recognition for the incredible work they do by connecting them to a large worldwide audience. Other than that, outside of work, you can find me brewing a nice cup of coffee, making a pizza from scratch, or baking brownies. I also love traveling, concerts, and cats (heavy on that, because I am a cat mom).
