“I took the photos last Monday in a forest in the Netherlands,” van Duijn explained about his fantastic squirrel pictures.

“I waited from sunset till sundown, but I spent a lot more days there to get this perfect shot sharp and in beautiful light and the Autumn colors,” he said about his dedication to capturing the perfect series of photos.

“After my last viral ground squirrel photo, Nikon loaned me some high-end camera gear that made this shot possible (the burst of the Nikon D5),” the photographer explained.

According to him, there isn’t really any grand philosophical idea behind his photos of squirrels.

“I just like to photograph them. They are very photogenic with a high cuddling rate,” he joked.

Naturally, van Duijn takes pictures of other animals besides squirrels as well. However, squirrels can be incredibly difficult to photograph because of how agile they are.

“The photo of the jumping squirrel was definitely the most difficult to capture. Usually, you pre-focus on a certain point and hope the squirrel jumps through this area and you have a sharp photo. But in this case, I took the photo out of hand tracking the jump of the squirrel.”
