Almost No One Is Talking About Floods In South Asia That Killed 1200 People (WARNING: Photos Are Horrifying)
Though the carnage of Hurricane Harvey is currently dominating mainstream media, Texas isn't the only part of the world being ravaged by flooding. International news coverage has largely ignored the torrential rainfall that has been devastating South Asia for almost the entire month of August, and it's time for us all to start talking about it.
Across India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, record amounts of heavy monsoon rains have caused disastrous flooding and landslides. Thousands of homes have become completely submerged, poor villages have absolutely no access to food and medicine, and nearly 1200 people have died - including children. Millions have been displaced, and are now wandering the region homeless and searching for help.
In case your local news station hasn't been reporting on it, here are 30+ photos from the scene that you won't soon forget. The GlobalGiving Foundation is working with a number of charities and aid organisations to provide relief to the many groups affected by these events, and you can learn more about it here.

Bangladeshi Commuters Use A Rickshaw To Cross A Flooded Street In Dhaka
Hate to say it, but they're better off walking, rather than make this poor guy struggle, to push and pull the rickshaw thru all that water, just because they don't want to get wet. Kind of cruel and selfish to make him do that, if you ask me. Now, if they were using it to transport goods that needed to stay dry... that would be another thing entirely, and understandable. I'm just sayin...

Check your facts before you blurt out gibberish. It should have gone like "Man carrying food home in flooded Srinagar, Capital of Jammu & Kashmir, India."
wow! this is worst than Texas. Need to up vote this to spread the word! prayers go out to India...
Thank you for posting these devastating photos. The people, like myself, in the USA ,are often ethnocentric . We need to open our eyes more to other countries.
thank you for sharing these pictures.. our news and situations never went viral like the Harvey but we have also suffered a lot. we have lost many lives, many people lost their homes. we are raised money and supports for food and clothes for the victims.. still supporting.. I pray for my country(Nepal) as well as for the other countries as well...
This was on our main news program tonight on TV in NZ, before a story about Houston. But Houston has definately received far more coverage. Sadly, it's no different from the coverage of a terrorist attack in Britain/Europe versus one in Pakistan/Afghanistan, etc. Usually the latter has a far greater death toll, yet our news outlets barely blink. With climate change these flooding events are becoming more common everywhere which makes me sad for everyone living in low-lying areas.
I am from India and there was very heavy rain. It was terrifying and it was devastating.
Thank you Bored Panda posting about the floods in South Asia. We Nepalese are very thankful to you. Namaste & Greetings from Kathmandu.
Of course people want news that's close to home, but the US news gets ridiculous. Here in Taiwan, we usually get several typhoons as big as Harvey or Katrina every year, and "superstore" Sandy would pass practically unnoticed. So it's good to see Bored Panda alerting people to situations in other parts of the world. Best wishes to India, Nepal, and Bangladesh.
Makes me sad that the picture that seems to have the most comments (til now), is the one of the dead animals.
There's a red "here" in the introduction before the photos you can click on to donate via Global Giving Foundation.
Will the rich people from these poor countrys help their people?! no they will not...they dont care...
Okay I get it, of course when it's closer to home, it hits you more. But apparently, only rich and western lives matter in the world.
Israel send to this flood a rescue expedition... Hope and pray for safe as much as possible life
not much in Czech republic, just a short mentioning, Harvey definitely gets more coverage
They are talking about it. Where it matters - south east Asia. You don't see headlines in newspapers and on s****y social media sites over there saying "a horrible flood happened in Texas and nobody is talking about it." Because surprise surprise, each region and culture is mostly concerned with what's going on in parts of the world that affect them most.
happens every year more or less. There are things the gov't could do to lessen flooding, infrastructure, etc, the gov't just hasn't
Actually they do report, every day in news and papers. But it is true, that Texas have much larger response on net.
It's a horrible trend. I remember during the Tsunami in 2004, pretty much all we heard about on the norwegian news was the handful or norwegians that were there during the tsunami.
All of these are horrible. These are some of the worst things I’ve ever seen.
Sad. It's like the whole world is falling apart at the same time over and over again.
Heartbreaking pictures, these people are going to need at least a year to clean up and it's unlikely they'll fully recover for years. My heart goes out to all of them.

Devastating floods in Nepal, Bangladesh, India....I hope the world stops ignoring the signs that the environment is giving us. Recent rains and flooding is the sign of nature . Climate Change is impacting us all!
post #56 WTF is wrong with humanity thousands of people have been murdered and are being chopped of at the moment we speak and the post says...after "A gunshot" was heard on the Myanmar side, this is cold...
This is very bad but where is this Country's government?? This may be a poor country but this is not a one time thing! There are educated people who should be doing something to prevent this from happening. Even notice the poor people suffer but the Government people always live well? My question is, why does everybody think the USA should jump right in and do something?? We have our own problems right now and if it were up to me, we would stop trying to be Big Brother to everybody. Grain has been sent to poor countries in need and left to rot because the people do not EAT that kind of food. So much for sending the food. Who do you all think pays for the Charity that goes unused, stolen, or rots? The good ole USA TAXPAYER. In case you think I am making this up, my friend's son was in one of these countries helping out during a disaster and took pictures of the wasted food and the poor people who would not eat the food sent to them. He was dismayed and upset. Sad!!!!
It is always like this.. things happening in 3rd wold countries are always taken granted like any other news. a while back thousands(3000~) of people died in Africa due to religious riots. that was not even mentioned in national television. meanwhile everybody was bragging about Turkish refugees. when some terrorist attacks happening in 1st world countries and some 50 people dies everybody is boiling through media .. same number of people are dying every f*****g day in middle east due to the same war ... whenever i watch the news channels and articles, i always get the discrimination for life according to different countries... hope things will change in future...
Who says no ones talking about this? It's in the 'world news' features every day. Of course it's not 'national' (meaning USA) news because, well, it isn't happening here
Those poor people, God help them. This SHOULD have been in the news.
The title warning and other barriers to viewing are unfair to those who suffered this tragedy. It ought to be required viewing; no age limit.
Is America the only country that can help others? We are dealing with our own, let other countries take over until we get back on our feet.
Hell....Didn't even know this was happening with all the news from US...How unfair they get ignored..
This is awful its about time it was more on the news feed in the media it's worse than 🇺🇸 Harvey and I would love to help but it should be broadcast more please newspapers should have more about these awful floods killing thousands
We do hear about a Texas flooding on the news and that is so bad. We are not hearing about India Bangladesh or Nepal and we should do and they need just as much help.
Well according to Trump "America First" so I guess no one else matters. EVERY life matters. America is NOT the most important country in the world. India is up to their NECKS in water! We are a GLOBAL community. Loss is loss. We are all equally important and the flood coverage in BOTH countries needs to be reflected as such.
ACTUALLY NOBODY TALKS ABOUT Myanmar THE MASSACRE AND THE KILLING OF INNOCENT MUSLIMS BY BUDDHISTS
