Though the carnage of Hurricane Harvey is currently dominating mainstream media, Texas isn't the only part of the world being ravaged by flooding. International news coverage has largely ignored the torrential rainfall that has been devastating South Asia for almost the entire month of August, and it's time for us all to start talking about it.

Across India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, record amounts of heavy monsoon rains have caused disastrous flooding and landslides. Thousands of homes have become completely submerged, poor villages have absolutely no access to food and medicine, and nearly 1200 people have died - including children. Millions have been displaced, and are now wandering the region homeless and searching for help.

In case your local news station hasn't been reporting on it, here are 30+ photos from the scene that you won't soon forget. The GlobalGiving Foundation is working with a number of charities and aid organisations to provide relief to the many groups affected by these events, and you can learn more about it here.

It is not our place even to put our moral standards on their culture. Not every culture buries the dead. Think of it also as, now the child is one with the river and whenever and wherever their is water, they will be with him.

it is so sad that the stories all over the news are the ones about the floods in houston, and yes they are also devastating, but this has destroyed more lives and it seems that nobody cares.

I had no idea of this and am so sad for those involved. I wish they had the help from their government that we are blessed with in the US. I am sure we are sending aid but it is never enough and the government's usually cannot be trusted to spend it on what it was meant to go to... which is the people for humanitarian assistance.

Do you guys do any research before posting ? Hindus do not bury their dead, they cremate them. Also infants, people who die of snake bites and sages are NOT cremated, they are given burial at sea/river. That is what he is doing here.

Actually it reads right in the title that they're looking for dry ground to bury him and that is why they are keeping him afloat. There's also a Nepalese man, right in this thread explaining that he WAS supposed to be buried so...

Yes, people care and they are saddened when they see anyone suffering. While many are struggling here in the States to find a way to survive, our thoughts tend to float towards our localities first. But human kindness does exist and our hearts are not closed from other countries and people.

Kind of cruel and selfish to make him do that, if you ask me. Now, if they were using it to transport goods that needed to stay dry... that would be another thing entirely, and understandable.
