Animator Remakes Sonic To Look More Like What People Want
It hasn’t been too long since people on the Internet completely roasted the new Sonic The Hedgehog movie with all criticism going towards the main character’s design. The outrage was so bad that it not only gave way to hundreds of tweets and memes making fun of poor Sonic but also prompted the director of the film, Jeff Fowler, to make an announcement on Twitter promising fans that the production will rework Sonic’s design to fit the fans’ expectations. Well, while Paramount employees work on the new version of the iconic blue character, one animator took a step ahead and offered his own take.

Animator reimagined Sonic as what we’ve all been expecting
On the 27th of May, a month after the original trailer was released, animator Artur Baranov posted his own version of the footage on YouTube. Baranov’s Sonic looks completely different and seems to look just like the hedgehog we all know from the classic video games.
Baranov’s video currently has over 1.3 million views and 33k likes showing that the audience is not only interested in his version but also quite enjoy it.
Sonic the Hedgehog is set to be released in the US on February 14, 2020 and stars talents such as Jim Carrey, James Marsden, and Ben Schwartz who’s going to lend his voice to the lovely blue hedgehog.
The difference between the two versions is certainly noticeable, with the original drawing more on the realism while the re-imagined version relies on the cartoon-ish look that every fan is familiar with.

What I did not get - is that new version from an animator who’s involved in the movie, or some random animator? Either way, the proportions look much better. I‘d like to see the new proportions with the „fluffiness“ of the older version though, for comparison. I wish people would cut this movie some slack. The jokes in the trailer were mostly funny, and Jim Carrey is fantastic (though too skinny). The producers said they’d work on the movie to make it match with what people want. So rather than bashing it, saying it‘ll suck anyway, give constructive criticism so it can become a good movie.

It has to be a random animator. If he is involved with the film, he would be fired. Artists sign very strict non-disclosure agreements. Most studios, you can't tell anyone what film you're working on until after the first teaser/trailer. You can't talk about it. Friends/family typically can't visit you at work. If they are allowed, it would be in reception or break areas after they sign NDAs.

You got downvoted by someone but you are right. The ugly version blends in a thousand times better. The newer version looks nice but looks much faker as if it were just resting on top of the screen rather than part of the picture.

This is my opinion u can’t get mad and try to change it. I don’t think the “ remake” the animator did was that good. I think that the original is better. Like u just hated the live action movie for looking more realistic. I think teh person who came up with the original design should be credited bc man that’s awesome design bravo whoever u are 🥳🥳

Well, both designs are kind of repulsing. I never understood why they call this creature a hedgehog, it's an alien ...thing with short furry tentacles on the back of his head.

Movie studio with hundreds of millions of dollars: looks like c**p. Some dude with a bit of spare time: looks pretty decent. Something is VERY wrong with the Hollywood system.

It's still going to be awful. Sonic was a great game, but it's never going to translate well into a film

I thought it was kinda creepy with the teeth and all. Better suited for a sequel of an evil sonic in an alternate universe. "Phonic"
