After 13 years of monitoring, on the 12th of January Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have announced a first-ever “widespread” of flu throughout the entire continental U.S. This season, 37 children have already died from the virus and it’s important that parents take their kids to the doctor if they suspect them of having the disease. However, it’s hard to plan a visit to the hospital if the child’s symptoms are nothing you’d expect. To raise awareness about how deceiving the flu is, Brodi Willard shared her family’s unusual story.

Experts claim the flu virus is constantly mutating. “That’s why we have to have a new vaccine every year,” said Senior Epidemiologist Dr. Anne O’Keefe
In my town so many people are freaking out about the flu that my doctors ran out of the vaccine. I'm not kidding, they have a new order coming next week
Ugh... I had my flu for this year and let me tell you... It hurt so bad! Thankfully, it didn't last long (thanks to thw vaccine and the medicines), but it was tough. Short but painful.
Load More Replies...When I was 9 years old I went to school feeling fine, but throughout the day it got more and more painful to walk, and I developed purple spots on my legs. I happened to have after school daycare that day and the Disney princesses Anna and Elsa were coming to daycare that day. I still have my photo with them, and I look really exhausted, not at all "thrilled". When my mom picked me up I slowly limped to her, and ended up going to the hospital later that day. It turned out that I had a really rare disease called HSP, but I made a full recovery!! It sucked because I would go to school carrying crutches but by the end of the day I'm using them because my legs would get too tired and painful, so people would say I'm faking it because they saw m carry the crutches into school, even after I explained it. Also a bunch of doctors would always come and look at my legs in the hospital because they learn about the disease in school but apparently never actually get to see it for themselves.
