Social media ‘influencers’ have become a huge industry, as more and more people spend their time on the likes of Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook rather than ‘traditional’ media like newspapers and TV.
According to media branding agency MediaKix, the money being spent on Instagram influencers and their likes has shot up in recent years and is going to continue upwards. Back in 2015, the industry was worth about $500 million. By 2020, it’s expected to be worth between $5 billion and $10 billion.
With this much money splashing around, you’d think that influencers would be happy to stump up for their own holidays, wouldn’t you? This exchange between British Vlogger Elle Darby and Paul Stenson, owner of The Charleville Lodge Hotel and The White Moose Café in Dublin, might be the beginning of a backlash against entitled influencers and their habit of asking for free things in exchange for ‘exposure.’
YouTuber Elle Darby sent this email to The Charleville Lodge Hotel, requesting free accommodation

Owner Paul Stenson, who also owns The White Moose Cafe, decided to post his reply on Facebook

Mr. Stenson’s sharp rebuke garnered a huge reaction online, with many people supporting his stance against an industry that we haven’t quite come to grips with yet. Many people see influencers as talentless freeloaders shamelessly hawking products with little more to offer than their looks, and this was reflected in the comments.
Unfortunately, some people took it way too far, and Ms. Darby ended up on the receiving end of a torrent of disgusting abuse.
“My issue was not with the refusal of my free hotel stay request but with how he reacted,” she explained in an emotional YouTube video. “A very simple way to have gone about it would have just been a ‘no’ or for the email to be ignored instead of me having death threats and cancer wishes.”

Ironically, in his quest to expose the ‘exposure’ culture, an unrepentant Mr. Stenson got more exposure for his business than he could’ve possibly imagined.

As influencers united to defend their industry and condemn the business owner’s attitude, Mr. Stenson upped the ante by announcing a complete ban on influencers, saying that any that try to enter the premises and ask for free services would be “ejected.”

He also sent Ms. Darby a mock ‘bill’ for all the exposure his actions had earned, just to further his point.

Mr. Stenson is no stranger to controversy, having made the headlines for several instances of social media outrage. His tongue-in-cheek, no-holds-barred communications sharply divide people, with some applauding his honesty and biting humor, while others consider him to be somewhat of a bully.
He once left an insane guest directory in the rooms of his hotel, with the following warning about hairdryers:
“If you try to steal the hairdryer from your room, you will be in for a little surprise. There is an explosive device installed on the inner wall of the hairdryer chamber, if you attempt to remove it from the room, the anti-theft system at the front door will detect the hairdryer in your bag and detonate the explosives, killing you and anyone around you.”

He also took on vegans after they reacted negatively to one of his tongue-in-cheek posts, issuing this ban on the entire ‘vegan population:’
“Given the torrent of abuse and unjustified negative reviews we have been receiving from the vegan population over the past 24 hours, all vegans are now barred from our café. Any vegans attempting to enter the café will be shot dead at point-blank range.”

Add Ed Sheeran fans to the long list of people that Mr. Stenson has insulted, and you wonder how long this can go on. Business still seems to be good, however, and Mr. Stenson is unapologetic about his manner of communication on Facebook.
“It’s not nasty, it’s funny, it’s a joke and not meant to be taken any other way,” he said. “Facebook is not a place for professionals, it’s a place for fun and engagement and having a laugh.”
“We filter out the people who can’t have a laugh via Facebook, I’d much rather have our 30 rooms occupied by happy people.”
Here’s what people had to say about the exchange
Influencers exist because of their followers: Stupid people following entitled lazy freeloaders telling them how to lead their lives.
Agreed. I don't know which is creepier, so called influencers or the influenced.
Load More Replies...I love everything about this man and his business. If I ever make it to where my grandparents sailed to America from, I know exactly where I’m staying (And paying)! Thanks for being you, Paul!
https://charlevillelodge.ie/#aboutus Their website is just as spectacular as the responses in this story.
Load More Replies...She's complaining about online abuse after it was her who exposed herself as the "influencer" in this story, not the hotel owner? So not only is she an entitled brat, she's also an idiot.
GREAT JOB! As a filmmaker and photographer, I deal with this WEEKLY. Just because your number of followers is high, you think you should get free work. Try getting a real job.
I really got a feeling of justice, like 'I can die now', when he casually mentioned that he had like 47,000 more followers than her
Works as a social media influencer? So, unemployed, eh. Further, I'm seriously doubting that a low level Internet person can provide much help to Universal Orlando.
Look how much exposure this created for his hotel - 10X more than if he had yes to the influencers request.
This hotel didn't even need this for exposure, White Moose has been doing great on social media way before this came along. They are really fun to follow!
Load More Replies...Well, she's a nasty little toe rag isn't she? I don't get where these little morons think they're entitled to anything. She has no talent, no education, and apparently no brain. ...///... We were in Europe a couple of weeks ago when one of these idiots was tramping around a museum (the Prado in Madrid), yelling at people to get out of her way while her boyfriend took photos of her. ...///... There's no photography permitted in that museum. Not for anyone, ever. The self-important little snot tried to claim she was "advertising" for them. Like the Prado needs to advertise. ...///... She was kicked out of the museum, along with her boyfriend, and screaming that she was going to call the police. As if.
She said that she was advertising for El Prado??? ADVERTISING FOR EL PRADO!!!!!! I'm happy to hear she was kicked out of the museum. And she was lucky I wasn't one if the people she yelled at, because she and her boyfriend would have ended up with their cameras and/or phones inserted up their r****m. I have no patience for this kind of idiots.
Load More Replies...I agree with the way Mr. Stenson replied to her ask for free room and board. I don't agree with people sending any one (including this "influencer") death threats or wishing things like cancer on them.
me either, but "influencers" are a kind of cancer.
Load More Replies...He's so right. These stupid influencers are getting on people's nerves rather than bringing anything good to the world. It's a pest really!
Influencer = Loser with no job or education but owns a laptop and uses internet they didn't pay for
This shows how social media makes some people far to self absorbed and only care about their number of followers and reputation. They see the number of followers as a currency or a ticket to freebies. I'm glad he said no to her.
This story is very old. I remember when you posted last year.
I got a lil offended about the jar ashes of vegans. Why can we leave everyone alone. They are not hurting you by not eating animal products. Chill
I gather the vegans started it, being obnoxious in his pub/restaurant. He finished it. Try being offended at the obnoxious veggies ruining it for rational ones.
Load More Replies...You have to have real credentials (meaning numbers) to make the influencer thing work. Mz Darby's self admitted 87K and 76K numbers would barely qualify for such at the local, small town level. She needs to add at least a couple of more zeros to each to reach a national/international level that would have a measurable impact. "Influencers" aren't different than those who get paid (be it money, goods, or services) for reviews. People who trust them are idiots. If nothing else, someone who has to pay gives an honest opinion as to whether or not they got their money's worth.
HAHAHA!!! I can promise Universal DID NOT need your help!!! And Paul is the BEST!
i know this article! it was brought up in a university class i attended. i remeber the teacher telling us that influencer was accused of advertising against the hotel which was against the law, and she was fined some hundred thousand dollars. it was quite interesting!
1st she is lying Universal would NEVER comp her Anything.... 2nd not even 100k in on ANY social media forums lol...... She is what is known as a " never was"
Both parties are idiots. I won't be following the influencer or going to this guy's hotel lol
Think I want to be Mrs Stenton 😍 all he did was ask that he and his employees be paid fairly. He didn't mention her name, she brought this to our attention, not him. I'm willing to forgive her if she can remember the name of the maid who cleaned her last free hotel room
You know she's one of those who never leaves a tip, too.
Load More Replies...So the current POTUS was an early influencer, telling the vendors he refused to pay (and ultimately drove into bankruptcy due to their expenditures on his account) that instead of his paying them, they could tell people they'd done work for him.
We haven't come to grips with this "industry" because it's not an industry. It's entitled freeloaders that produce nothing and expect things given to them. I sit here in my car shop with millions worth of tools because through blood, sweat, tears and broken bones we have worked long and hard providing services to others. It allows me things like racecars, travel to places I never thought I'd ever be able to go and opportunities I never thought possible. All because all of us here worked very hard to create a viable business. Posting some videos and pictures while living off your parents trust fund and whoring yourself out for some likes is not a viable business.
Science flies you to the moon. Religion flies you into skyscrapers. Snowflakes wanting free stuff and refusing to act like Romans when in Rome are a pox on the civilized world. They should be shipped off to Sentinel Island where they can learn about work from a proper virtuous savage that stays out of Whitey's pocket. Go Rome or Go Home.
Load More Replies...one easy way to deal with influences ( I would just like to say influence is a virus) is to ask for there education papers example hotel school culinary school act if they are not educated in branch don't let them in.
I agree that influencer is a b******t entitled "job" but he went above and beyond to bully and humiliate her. And after seeing his other incredibly rude and unnecessary remarks about other subjects, id say we've got a shallow man with little d**k syndrome
I’m guessing she isn’t the only one expecting freebies in this fake influencer job. Plus he never gave her name she did by complaining about it
Load More Replies...I LOVE this guy!! If I ever get the chance, I would LOVE to stay at his hotel. No, I don't blog, no I 'm an influence to any one. But I do appreciate hard work and a sense of humor.
what i see here is a feast of hate. one non empathetic dude (girl) wrote to another non empathetic dude (guy) but as she belongs to this part of the internet that is comonnly hated by other non emphatetic dudes (what i dont like is that they often claim themselves as being tolerant) so he got applause. now he can make money t-shirts and another vase for vegan ashes just because he trated another human being without respect. bravo. ps. dont get me wrong but many companies are providing "free"(that is-i will benefit from it later) services for online advertising.
You're so full of the milk of human kindness I can almost hear you moo. No one has to be tolerant of the greediness of others without push back and if they don't like the sanctimoniousness of some vegans either, they have the right to take the p**s out of them too. If non-empathetic means not allowing others to walk over you at their leisure and to their advantage, colour me non-empathetic. And the T-shirts were a stroke of genius.
Load More Replies...So it's, like, DIY advertisements, then? These influencers make little ads on Instagram? Pfft. I thought ads were why people have quit watching television in droves. I'm tired of being inveigled to buy something every time my eyes are open. How is "influencing" a $5bn business? In this instance, I think that, were I in Stenton's place, I'd've just said, "Thank you for your interest. Our policy is that we do not provide free accommodation of this sort," and left it at that. They're both a couple of drama queens, and this is silly.
The assumption that any business owner needs a social media "influencer" to help them in the first place is so pathetic I'd cry...if I wasn't too busy puking. This twit actually wants people to believe that she helped Disney...with less than a 1/4 million followers...because who'd even know Disney World existed without her?
I totaly agree with Mr. Stenson. By the way, I do work hard as and employee in constractions, and I still have the money to enjoy a good hotel twice a year. That lady's behaviour is completely shameless.
To be honest, after reading the comments. This made me not want to stay in this hotel nor associate myself with the brand. The young lady could have worded her proposition better however a simple, no, would have sufficed. There are such things as sponsorship and endorsements which is a perfectly legitimate business transaction. The comments made by Mr. Jensen were passive aggressive and self entitled. Funny world we live in ~MJ
I think his response was quite cruel. A simple no would have sufficed. And why does everyone hate influencers so much? To the point of wanting them hurt?
I get what the hotel owner is saying, but I think this is all just an excuse to dump on people simply for trying to cut a deal. I mean, it's not like rewards/referral/loyalty programs haven't been around as a business practice since FOREVER. I'd have said, "Let me make you this offer: If 5 suites get booked by people who say they did so because of your influence, I'll upgrade you to a premium suite but at the price of a basic suite and I'll throw in a bottle of bubbly. How's that sound?"
Amend that to "booked, stayed and paid" ... otherwise, its just reservations.
Load More Replies...The denial was childish at best. Grow up and just say no, artists have been doing so for decades...
I agree. He was way out of line and very unprofessional.
Load More Replies...I agree that to be able to maintain a quality service and business operation, one must pay equally to the service/product that is offered to them. However, I din't not like how he generalized all the social media influencers and banned them from staying in his hotel. I believe that he is a great entrepreneur for all his achievements and he is entitled with his own opinion but being a business owner he should've been careful with his words because it can affect the performance of his business and all the people that is working for his hotel.
The level of rudeness bothers me a bit. I just feel like there doesn't need to be so insulting. I understand the gall exhibited to ask for freebies like this, but a simple, We can not accommodate your request at this time, would have been sufficient.
What a hateful jackass this hotel trash is! Influencing is simply a form of ADVERTISING! And, if the trash would get out of his fantasy life inside his head, he would understand this. If you don't wanna buy, you say NO! Otherwise, you look deranged, going off the deep end like this fool did. Hateful much? Abused as a child by his own daddy, maybe? Something is wrong when you behave this way.
Hahahahaha!! Mr. Stenson you are hilarious. Everything you said is absolutely true!!! Here’s to you from across the pond. And I seriously doubt that Universal Studios Orlando needed any help from a white-washed, narcissistic, self-important gen-z’er who more than likely has never held an actual job in her entire life.
Bravo! I took on an "influencer" who got angry because I charged for my beautiful ocean view apt in South Beach.AFTER he stayed with a nice discount,he proceeded to bad mouth my apt.in his site (which had zero stays before mine, lol!) This German Blogger was just looking for a" freebie" I don,nor my staff work free. Fortunately I was able to discredit his vengeful comments, and even if only one other owner sees it and denies him a stay,I've done my job. Entitled, USELESS people looking to freeload!
I must live a sheltered life, this is news to me, Mr. Stenson, congratulations, on being you !!!
Excellent - I really like this guy dry humor! He's also completely correct.
Snowflakes belong in gas chambers. This planet was designed for humans, if the tasks required of you to act like a civilized human offend you so much, why don't you commit suicide and leave? The only good liberals are ones that were succesfully tortured to death.
I keep wondering which cost more--her eye surgery or having her lips pooched out with collagen. Maybe she got both for free.
I am with the owner and if the "influencer" was upset by the tone or the fact that she was given a lecture as to why she was refused - diddums! She is obviously not intelligent enough to work out the facts pointed out by the hotel owner for herself so somebody had to point them out to her!!
Mister was right! Ban the Media Influencers are absolutely fantastic.
Why on Earth are you reposting this? It was on BP last year when it happened.
The same way one in Nigeria had to go use a person's real mansion and cars to pose and claim she achieved all at 30 despite a 6 year broken marriage she suffered. When the main owner heard about it from China and asked her online to stop impersonating, she went further to forge building designs to show that the house 'actually' belonged to her and the main owner was just a hater. The main owner flew from China, had her arrested and paraded by the cops as she confessed to not owning anything she hitherto claimed was hers...Just Imagine!!! See link here: https://www.gistreel.com/after-reprimanding-her-onye-eze-drinks-wine-with-blessing-okoro-video/
well done Mr. Stenson. Finally someone spoken up about this stupid industry that doesnt make any sense. Bunch of non educated teenagers - insult for each industry!!!
Headed to Dublin this fall. I think I’ll be checking out this place. This is the type of place and people I like to support!
i'm sure "social influencers" have a place in this world...somewhere...but ffs, not in mine! hotel guy has a great attitude in dealing with them (& others), no wonder his business is not suffering. good on ya!
Well, I recommend her airbnb.com which is not expensive, it's good, and it's something you can pay and the most important you woudn't have been exposed as a freebie. You probably would be happy now, with a nice video to show, pictures for your isntagram, wit a good experience to tell and the most important: with your dignity intact. Let's face it the guy has a point. (Maybe a late recommendation, but it can be useful for the next time)
Just when I try to search for the origin of the post, I was discouraged when I saw the date of this matter that actually took place - January, 2018. Nevertheless, it was a very well handled, wise, funny actions took by Mr. Paul to shove the ego of all these so called "influencers" who think they are entitled to anything free.
Love this guy, screw all "influencers." They really need to change Instagram's name to "Narcissigram."
I totally agree with Mr. Stenson... I am old (really old!) and had been taught from an early age that nothing is free. If you want or need something you work for it, or trade for it... i am so glad to be near the end of my life - I am tired unto death with people who think that if they cause enough noise, hold "parades" or threaten to bomb people to get what they want without lifting a finger, that everybody else is responsible to coddle them and give them any and all things they want. I understand that sometimes jobs are hard to find, but that is the time you use your brain and create yourself a job!
I don't think the hotel manager is 'angry' -just think he's getting real with these self-entitled moochers.
Mr. Stenson's reply was spot on! What a self-serving, egotistical person she is to even dare ask for something free. Good going Mr. Stenson!
Invite one of these influencers to your place Mr Stenson, and give them the room number of the public bathroom.
How can a woman, who does not give even a natural look, give a natural feedback?
So, let me get this straight.... A hotel without a vegan option and no internet bloggers, vloggers and influencers? All I need to know is do they have free wifi for guests and how much the rooms are! This place sounds like heaven!
Agree that she was very cheeky to ask for a freebie. Also, I dislike the new culture of ´influencers´, I wish instead educated, smart and GOOD people influenced our youth. Not silly good for nothings. However- there are a great many usefull blogs written by very good people, very smart people out there- throwing them into same bag with above freeloader is just unfair. Also, insulting people because of their prefered diet is just childish.
They annoy the hell out of me. It’s just girls covered in slap trying to be something or someone they are not .
I can understand his feeling the way he does and the fact that he has the right to decide who gets to enter his business but I have to ask one thing. Will he have any customers left?
Yes. The hotel and cafe are both very successful. In real life and on line.
Load More Replies...Unpopular opinion here but influencers do provide free advertisement for businesses. She wasn't rude in her request so he can just say no to her. But for some influencers this is their full time job and if they show a product, service, or location and their followers then decide to buy the product then the business profits. Makeup brands send influencers free products just like they send free product to celebrities because they want that person to buy it. Influencers couldn't do what they do without free product and why should they promote a business or product for nothing? You may hate influencers but a lot of people follow these people and a lot of businesses profit from it. It isn't entitled of them to ask. If you are a business and don't think the influencer has enough influence to give a free stay at your hotel then tell them no.
Thank you Mr Stenson for putting these self entitled idiots in their place. Lazy asses need to work at a real job like the rest of us. I too would love to have a beer with Mr Stenson.
Celebrity without talent, reward without work, power without regulation or responsibility. The amount of bribery, backhanders and undisclosed 'arrangements' among bloggers (which appears to be how we're pronouncing 'freeloaders' these days) is rampant: as a journalist I'v e had a front row seat to a lot of it. Their ill defined of not shady activities need to be taken under the same rules as any other form of advertising and their cash and goods grabs ended. Stenson is right of course and he's also right about this Love Island clone exposing herself to insult and worse by making that self pitying boo hoo video whine. He used his influence on her and then she doubled down by using her own influence against herself. Oh, the irony. PS I travel to Dublin three or four times a year. Guess which hotel I'll be staying in from now on.
1) I agree with his sentiment about "influencers". We live in a bizarro world where people with no discernible talent tell/show gullible followers how to live their lives. 2) That said, I do somewhat see this woman's point. She wrote to him in a respectful fashion, and he used her email to make a far bigger public point (one with which, again, I agree). It just seems to me like he could have simply told her "no", as she said, and left it at that without starting this public spat.
This is not different from paying for advertisement, but instead of paying with money, one is paying with services. That's ironic and hypocritical that he got exposure from being a jerk to this woman. People are just looking for an excuse to be rude and mean towards someone else. His response was unnecessary and arrogant. I'm not staying at his hotel in my trip to Dublin.
He's absolutely right about the whole situation. Love this guy.And her, she's nothing more than a self centered freeloader. Like he needs her "influence" to help his business. And I'm sure that her working w/Universal in Orlando saved them from going bankrupt. Such delusions.
I love Mr.Stenson's sense of humor and I agree with the majority here .. Pay the bill like we have to !!! I would like a beer and to hangout with Mr. Stenson he has got to be a hoot to hang with...hey Mr. Stenson I am 52% Irish and supposedly according to 23and me my family came from your area so does that mean I get everything free? Just kidding I pay my way like a real woman
When I reviewed for gay press -- which had a targeted and very responsive readership -- I PAID for everything and didn't identify myself as a reviewer. Why? So my opinion would be impartial and my experience would be that of anyone. Doing otherwise is known as WHORING: pay me and I'll write something nice about you.
I would love to stay here!! Fortunately for Paul, if I do, I would be booking and paying for my stay, like normal, non-egotistic, people do.
this is actually what we need to know about influencers and their business : It's not just about marketing. Mr. Stenson proved it well. It might end up on better story if she just ask for a discount instead asking it for free. Oh, if you want to get insight on how to create a great content , just check this link below http://eyesimple.us/blog/increase-social-media-traffic-contents/
Now I'm imagining Basil Fawlty of Fawlty Towers brought forward 40 years and responding to an "influencer".
It's called advertising and normally a campaign costs quite a lot. If the "influencer" ( i dislike the term) or rather the "marketer" has traction and their target audience is a good fit for the company then why not. Obviously it's up to the business to see if the people they will attract are the ones they want.
Good for Mr. Stenson! She absolutely wanted free accommodations for herself and her significant other. Also, she was asking for 5 FULL DAYS... and right near Valentine’s Day as well which is a big money making weekend for many hotels. I have to hand it to her, she has a lot of balls—or is she just that narcissistic?
She cried in a video? Bahahaha ohh poor baby, having to work for the things she wants. And claiming universal studios has benefited from her? PLEASE. She needs to cut back on whatever she's doing to her face she looks like a creepy fake robot face cover
I think it’s embarassing that this business owner (Mr. Stenson) believes that his response to this blogger was “asking her to pay for her accommodations” when he was actually shaming her for trying to provide for herself with what she has. You can call influencers freeloaders, but the fact is, the amount of time and effort that it takes to produce well-followed YouTube and instagram channels is intense. Additionally, networking with other businesses is super common. Maybe she picked the wrong hotel, but her original email reads a very simple request that could have garnered the very simple response of “thank you for your interest in staying at our hotel, unfortunately we are not offering any social media marketing partnerships at this time. If you would still like to join us, we will be happy to host you for your valentine weekend”
I don't think she was simply "providing for herself with what she has." She was looking to stay at the hotel for an early Valentines Day weekend which is usually a peak time for hotels for which they charge higher rates since so many to couples usually book romantic getaways around that time. Plain and simple, she wanted to have romantic vacation with her partner for free.
Load More Replies...Whatever. People on youtube have a wide range of followers that respect them. Modern day entertainment. When will the whole "entitled" s**t end? Geeze get over yourselves.
Stop the influencers-plague & join me in this fight by blocking these entitled little shits on all their social media accounts! (FB, Insta, Youtube, etc etc etc). As I HOPE the total number of blocked accounts will have a teeny-tiny impact on their monthly cash flow! :-)
This same hotel owner has no issue doing this to other people though. But instead of asking, he just takes. He's thief. Just search up on him and his antics. I wouldn't be surprised if this was fake. Regardless, do some research next time before you post.
I would love to meet Mr. Stenson in person. Such an interesting outlook.
I fully support Mr Stenson!. These so-called "Influencers" are nothing more than entitled lazy freeloaders!! Good on you sir.
If I were ever in Dublin, I'd make sure to pop around for a pint or a coffee. No worries, I'll pay real money. I just love his attitude - and want to support him :-)
Although the news are 1 year old, I am with this guy and all the others. F**k Social Media influencers! The only people you influence are teenagers, who are too hormonal to think for themselves! The minute these kids pass puberty, your "influence" dries out like cow s**t in the summer sun!
good on him, he deserves nothing but good after putting these entitled clowns down.
Influencers do live in a fantasy world where they assume they are doing everyone a huge favour and they should be rewarded for this. The problem is there are companies that are lazy and use this people to get ahead in the game and all it does it make these influence feel even more entitled. Celebrities don't contact hotels and say "I'm famous, give me free accommodation". I'm sure there are some influencers that work hard at promoting others BUT that doesn't mean you shouldn't have to pay for stuff. It's also not very respectful of the other people - she phrased her email in a way that was arrogant and offence. In return she got an honest email back. She then slandered him in her video...of which I would have taken her to court over that.
Being an 'influencer' in and of itself is not a bad thing. Trying to use that status to weasel your way into getting free stuff is where you become an entitled douche. If you want to basically work as a one-person ad agency, then go ahead, but don't act as if it's some sort of favor or form of payment for businesses because that's not how the business that influencing is based on works.
I find it ironic that an influencer is writing an article s******g on influencers. XD Either way, if I am ever in dublin I know where to stay, and that Ill be giving a huge tip when I leave.
If I made it to Dublin I would 100% stay there, and probably buy one of those shirts for funsies if they had them.
why angry hotel owner response? its just a response...not angry at all
I love this! Anyone who feels otherwise about his posts has not worked in the service industry! 😂
I would love to stay at their hotel. I would be more than happy to pay full price. I think Mr. Stenson sounds like a magnificent person. I needed a good laugh tonight. Thank you.
I hate this 'influence' craze....influencer to me means leading the blind into liking s**t for no reason but because said influencer, went, made it, likes it, ate it. F off....we want to experience stuff for ourselves, shouldn't everyone doing Google reviews be an influencer then??
I wonder how long influencers will last before people wake up and abandon them?
I really like the line calling them professional Beggeas, its an apt name. Same can be said for those idiots wanting to vacation across a country but instead of bringing enough money to actually do so, they sit on the streets and beg. or the 'homeless' beggars standing there with fendi purses and iphones. Seriously has NO ONE got any sense of self respect anymore?
Their website is hilarious ... https://charlevillelodge.ie/#aboutus. If I ever go to Dublin, you bet I'll stay there (but please don't tell the owner I'm vegan, I don't want to be shot)!
I would consider it a real job, given how they get paid a lot more than the average person
Load More Replies...How do I get a tshirt? I only have money bc from My JOB, not influence. How much is that in YouTube clicks?
I wonder if the person had been an actually celebrity would the owner be singing another tune.
No he wouldn't. He has to make a living. He doesn't do that by giving things away for free. REAL celebrities know this and would NEVER make a stupid demand like that.
Load More Replies...I wonder if she had to attend a time share/vacation club presentation to get her "freebie" from Universal Orlando? That is the only way they will give up a penny, oh, yes, an open to the public contest or a "Florida Resident Only" special promotion would do the trick.
I f*****g hate bloggers and vloggers... all in for easy life... people need to stop giving them money and stuff.
Glorified, entitled free loaders, my mother is currently facing a similar situation at her establishment as I type because the "influencers" she has ever so kindly put up for free are now refusung to leave for another week in a fully booked out resort.
What’s the fuss he’s Irish! That’s how irish works👍🏻 No bull, no s**t, just craic 😉
What will these so called "influencers" do years from now when they are no longer "influential". What jobs would they qualify for? The same can be said for all of these "youtubers". I sure do hope they are investing their money wisely while they still have it.
The youtubers i watch went to collage and have a backup plan. Moriah Elizabeth has a degree in graphic design. Sssniperwolf went to medschool. Azzyland went to pharmacy school.
Load More Replies...So since "influencers" are receiving something of value for their "influencing" said item. When are we going to start taxing them?
I like this guy. He needs to be the new hero and mascot is r/choosingbeggers . If I ever head out to Dublin, I know where I'll be staying.
I just dont get the influencer thing, probably because I have always done well with just trusting the reviews of the products. But they sound like extremely entitled little brats who think that things should just be handed to them. I applaud this man for standing up to them, no one should be bullied in to having to give away their services for free.
I really hate this new culture of Instagram "influencers" like seriously celebrities still pay for their stuff most of the time unless they are offered free stuff. So why should a underemployed self important Instagram whatever get anything for free? Or feel entitled to free services or products just because they are popular online? I can't wait until this fad is over.
Alright this was all very interesting. You idiots needs to better understand the definition of influencer and it's wide ranging criteria. And trying to lump every selfie famous model in with a youtuber that has produced massive quality content for say fitness etc, are so wildly different. This girl DOES NOT EVEN COME CLOSE to representing the "Industry" and people pay for exposure WITH EVERY F*****G AD THEY PURCHASE through any ad company. Stupidity breeds in flocks and mobs and although I am sure many of you are intelligent and capable your getting dragged out of your reasoning center and dragged along mob consciousness. I get that he wasn't into it, but him butt f**** the keyboard to prove some point that has NO BASIS due to the overall impossibility to call all influencers equal is just clown shoes. Big sloppy feet clamoring around spewing garbage.
The whole thing is stupid and childish. Request denied in a childish way especially. Grow up.
I don’t think influencers are freeloaders. Everyone works hard in their own way whether it’s marketing themselves or their products. Who are we to judge?? Why is everyone so angry though? I agree with the influencer he could have simply said no in the email instead of blowing it out of proportion and lighting her up to get laughs. Any person with feeling would make a video about it which in turn did give him the publicity he wanted. I don’t think it’s funny to bully anyone at all. People assume it only takes five minutes to shoot a video, trust me it doesn’t. There is editing, reshooting etc. It takes hours. We all love entertainment what’s wrong with the people who like watching real life people on the internet instead of actual movie stars. I don’t see people bashing them. I’m not a fan of the influencer nor have I seen the video that was posted but from reading this article I was so bothered with the hate people have; it is truly disgusting.
Stenson is a an arrogant little S**t! He has a successful business that's why he responded the way he did. I don't know the girl nor care about her but what is wrong with her using her marketing sphere? He could have simply said no thank you or negotiated with the girl but he chose to be an a*s. Why? because he knew this would blow up and get him advertising for free. He knows the rule that any type of exposure is marketing. He's and influencer himself. Why does he have so many followers? Because social media works. THe Kardishians (not a fan) get millions of dollars to post a product. IF someone is willing to pay them so be it. So in the end Stenson is a hypocrite I hope people boycott his establishments for being such a pompas a*s!!!!
I was supporting him until he threw vegans and Sheeran in the mix. Just because one little tart got your undies in a bunch enough to write a scathing reply, don't get nasty with the rest of us. Personally..after seeing his reaction to some of the media storm, I doubt very much that I'd stay at his hotel.....
I think it's okay when companies send people free stuff in exchange for a review. I think it's not okay when people go out asking for free stuff on the basis that they're an influencer
Load More Replies...It is good to know there are still normal (in very good way) people like Mr.Stenson! And finally somebody who doesnt live for the seriousness of Facebook and take it like a web for fun. I did that too and it cost me many “friends”...:-/ And I would totaly book a room there if I was around. 😁
Mr Stenson. I hope you are reading this. WELL DONE! Dublin is on my bucket list of places to visit. When I do, I'll make sure to book a room in your hotel. Oh and can you PLEASE make an exception for me? I'm a vegan and do not want to end up in the jar of ashes! I won't bother! Promise! XoXo
ALSO there is one rule to success. If you A.S.K you just might G.E.T what you are asking for. There is nothing wrong in her asking and trying to leverage what she perceives to be of value. Stenson should have and could have been a decent human and just decline her ASK politely. I can guarantee if he was struggling he would have responded differently. Shame on him!!! But them again I'll bet he is a Drama Queen!! He got what he wanted!!
The owner is a r****d.. his staff would be paid out of the revenue from other visitors she could help him gain. Its up to him to decide if he thinks its worth but that was just an idiotic argument...
I love the excuse "social media isn't real" when someone is an a*s all over it. The followup "anyone who takes me seriously there is no fun" is the ultimate cop out and all you really need to know about the individual. You don't want to do business with someone, just say no. This man is screaming for attention. Unfortunately she gave it to him for free.
If you mixed the Ashes of Vegans and the Tears of Bloggers, would it make some sort of entitled-whiner concrete?
This clown clearly has no understanding at all about how advertising and marketing works. Or perhaps he's stuck in the past where marketing means having an ad on a billboard, newspaper, TV or magazine. It's like having a magazine ad salesman emailing him saying they have 87k monthly readership and asking if the magazine can send a writer over to stay at the hotel and write a review article about it. Instead he goes overboard and claims that the salesman is an entitled brat looking for freebies. He can just politely decline the offer instead of responding like an outdated numbskull who still thinks it's 1990. I can understand the outrage if the influencer approached him in arrogant and cocky manner like "Do you know who I am? I have 87K followers!" But this wasn't the case. Her email sounded very professional and polite. Assuming she genuinely has 87K followers on YouTube and that they're not fake purchased subscribers, that is quite a substantial number of people. Having his business featured on her channel could translate to some good ROI (Return of Investment). Many people seem to have the wrong idea of influencers, often claiming they're entitled brats looking to live as professional freeloaders. What many don't realize the industry of influencers is merely a new form of marketing and advertising. If you don't get it, it means you're a dinosaur with a fossilized mind still stuck in the 90's. Most full time influencers I know earn their full time income from what they do. Many of them hire professional video editors to produce their videos, some even hire small freelance camera crews, professional photographers and writers to produce content. It's a business, people. I personally run a few blogs and a YouTube channel and I receive regular requests by companies who want me to review and feature their products on my platforms. Sometimes, I even approach them in a manner similar to Ms. Darby's. There's NOTHING to be ashamed of with this. It's PURELY BUSINESS. Many of these companies understand the importance of having their products seen by as many eyes as possible so their marketing teams find influencers to be an indispensable weapon in their marketing arsenal. Brands that know how to leverage their presence on the marketplace with influencers are more likely to succeed than those who don't.
As the article says... business still seems to be good. When customers get tired of his attitude, perhaps he will start accepting "weird proposals" as the influencer's.
I think Mr.Stenson is a d**k. He shouldn't have gone about it that way. He is failing to realize that advertising is a real service. He may not agree that using influencers is the best way to advertise but he still treated her very unprofessionally. I wouldn't want to stay with a company that treats people that way.
She has less socual media influence than Mr. Stenson, but was begging for freebies. No different than someone filling their cart at the grocer's, and demanding it for free, because they'll blog about it. I wouldn't want to stay at a place that gives freebies to mooching morons: it's a terrible business model, bound to fail.
Load More Replies...Kudos to Mr Stenson, I love that you have taken a stand against these "influencers" and have put them in their place. To think that they believe their opinion is going to help a business just because they like it strikes me as totally absurd. I personally would take any "influencers" approval of a place as somewhere I wouldn't want to go. As the saying goes "Opinions are like a*s holes, everyone has one" and quite frankly yours isn't any more special than anyone else's.
You idiots.....IDIOTS...the hotel is a social media promoter...they get it...this is just a business deal they reject...normal stuff...just business...I bet they take similar offers from more notable people. just business. If you want to rant about ethics, free the children held in concentration camps in the USA. FREE THE CHILDREN!!!!!
Ugh, it is tongue in cheek. Just like people joke that they could strangle their partners when they p**s them off or sell their children when the kids are being annoying lil turd burgers. Stop taking life so seriously.

Kind of a silly thing to do, right? What she did is no different. Mr. Stenson's response was perfection: it costs money to run a business, and working people should be paid. Influencers don't understand much.

Load More Replies...Becuase infulencers think they can get stuff for free when some have to work thier a*s off to get enough money for it.
Load More Replies...Idk my grandpa tries getting free stays at resorts by showing them his pictures of him on the beach in the bikini. He’s so fetch
Load More Replies...Probably because females outnumber males with being influencers.
Load More Replies...Let's put this is perspective. Go to a bank, and "ask politely" for a million dollar loan. Don't have collateral, a job, or any savings to back the loan, just ask. Kind of a silly thing to do, right? What she did is no different. Mr. Stenson's response was perfection: it costs money to run a business, and working people should be paid. Influencers don't understand much.
Load More Replies...Mr. Stenson never exposed her, she exposed herself to be a victim. He was basically just giving a general statement to people LIKE her. She wanted to be the victim, so take that into consideration when you question who the douche was.
Load More Replies...I personally go to OfficeMax and apologize. Not for anything I’ve done. Maybe for drawing rocket ships on all the pen testing pads
