I never knew that it could snow in the desert.
Last weekend, as we were heading down to Joshua Tree, a few showers of rain graced us during our drive. The weather wasn’t forecasted to be that cold and there was no forecast of rain either for the rest of the day, so we thought we’d be okay.
Once we got to the park, we headed straight to Jumbo Rocks campground to try to find a spot. After a few minutes of looking, we found two that we liked, and thought that we’d set up camp early.
Then we felt it.
It was a few flakes of snow at first. Then more and more flakes fell. And before we knew it, snow was pouring down on us and it looked like we were in the middle of a blizzard (or at least it felt like we were). After about 10 minutes or so, our entire surrounding was covered in white leaving us with the most breathtaking views of Joshua Tree that I’ve ever seen.
The entire snowfall only lasted about 20-30 minutes. After an hour or two, all the snow melted and there was no trace that even the slightest bit snow hit the park.
And that’s what makes this experience so special for me. We just happened to be at the right place, at the right time.
Definitely an experience that I will never forget!
