We got in touch with Tyler and Ryan to ask some questions about their comic creation. When asked to describe it in three words, Tyler responded: “Chaotic. Stupid. Doctors,” and elaborated further: “Many webcomic artists tend to follow a theme, but we just come up with whatever feels funny. Some of our jokes are pretty clever, but many are just dumb jokes that probably make people want to punch us in the face. Regarding the ‘Doctors’ inclusion, my wife is a medical doctor currently in residency. I've been with her since before she started medical school. Hearing her stories from school and work provides numerous comic ideas, which is why we have so many doctor-themed posts.”

Next, we were curious about how the artists behind the comics come up with ideas for their new strips. Once again, Tyler gave us a glimpse into their creative process: “I am horrible at consistently generating new comic ideas. When I sit down and try to come up with them, I usually draw a blank. My best ideas come when I least expect them, usually on a walk, sitting in the shower, or driving across the state to a poker tournament. Sometimes, my wife or a friend will tell me a funny story about something that happened to them at work, and I'll use that as inspiration for a comic.”

Now, we had the chance to learn more about ‘All I See Is Beans’ from Ryan, who shared how he develops characters that fit the tone of the comic. He explained: “ If you notice from our comics, some characters are more detailed and drawn with clothes, while others are more basic shaped and, well, naked. Their basic purpose is to set up a joke (we make a lot of jokes about doctors), but recycling the same characters instead of always making new ones is on purpose, and the more they show up, the more we're able to show off their unique personalities.”

The cartoonist also shared which works from other artists in the comedy field he admires, stating: “While not necessarily a comic artist, one inspiration is definitely from Zack Hadel, co-creator of Smiling Friends. I love the unhinged, chaotic energy he brings out in his characters.”

Lastly, Ryan shared with us the most rewarding aspects of creating comics: “The process of making our comics is enjoyable, but the positive feedback we get from it makes it that much more rewarding. We're glad to know people enjoy our content and stupid jokes.”

I spent many years trying to decipher their scrawls. It got somewhat easier with practice, but remained a challenge.

I guess it’s kinda funny-ish, but I don’t get why the “I hate my wife” trope is still standing strong. And the 3rd panel: SHE couldn’t deal with it? I’m not angry, just disappointed.
