The term 'sigma male' has become a buzzword in the online world, generally describing a man who is independent, introspective, and does not conform to societal norms. And anyone who is interested in learning more about these characters should check out the Twitter account Sigma Male Activity.
It strives to deconstruct the mindset and lifestyle of those who identify as such through quotes and sigma memes. It covers a wide range of topics, ranging from dating and partner selection to earning a living and hobbies.
While the concept of a sigma male is not without controversy, this account offers a fresh (and often humorous) perspective on what it can mean to different people.

Need more men like him! Way to go! He is definitely The Dad!
Color me impressed - I see 2 lions & only one has a mane. Grandma's doing better at the opposite sex animal couples than most of the kids' bibles I've seen.
According to the internet culture database Know Your Meme, online males from this supposed class are usually considered equal to alphas on the dominance hierarchy but exist outside of the structure by choice. John Wick has often been cited as a prominent example of a sigma male.
The term itself has been attributed to writer Vox Day, aka Theodore Robert Beale, a self-described Christian nationalist. On his blog, he often shares detailed explanations of the hierarchy of males using the Greek alphabet.
On May 16th, 2010, he published, "Explaining sigma. Again," in which he wrote that the sigma is not just a social outcast, but a person who despite being a supposed social outcast "wins" at the social game.
I used to know a homeless guy in New Orleans who strapped a cooler to his bike. $30 worth of beer and bottled water would net him $100 by the end of the day. Dude had it figured out.
"[Sigmas are] the outsiders who don't play the social game and manage to win at it anyhow," he wrote. "The alphas hate sigmas because they are the only men who don't accept or at least acknowledge their social dominance. (NB: Alphas absolutely hate to be laughed at and a sigma can enrage an alpha by simply smiling at him.)"
"Everyone else is vaguely confused by them. At the party, it's the guy who stops by to say hello to a few friends accompanied by a tier-one girl that no one has ever seen before. Sigmas often like women, but also tend to be contemptuous of them."
He has also listed some pop culture characters as examples, including Han Solo, Neo, and many Clint Eastwood roles.
I don't know it may have. In my third year we had to do a lot of presentations and we were a pretty small class, so a group of us took it upon ourselves to find the most obscure questions about the presenters topic to make their life hell. If memory serves I was presenting about Progeria and I got asked about which famous local band has a progeria sufferer in their music video.
Load More Replies...That's a lot of effort just to humiliate someone because they mocked your presentation. This sounds more like a monstrous tender ego gone spiteful than anything else.
Nope, sounds like fair game to me, if you’re willing to dish it out and mock someone else’s hard work, you deserve being brought back down to earth
Load More Replies...I mean, cool for getting back at her, but he kept going til she cried? Like, maybe a little too far, dude
So "sigma male" means to be mean, petty, and emotionally abusive to others. Got it!
So you proved yourself to just as mean spirited as the person who mocked you. Oh yay
Over the course of the 2010s, explanations of the sigma male began growing more popular online. But it has received a fair share of criticism, too.
Writing for the Daily Dot, Gavia Baker-Whitelaw said that, "Conveniently, [the sigma male concept] offers men the chance to rebrand themselves as a cool, sexy loner if they've alienated their friends and loved ones by ascribing to self-defeating theories about gender and relationships."
Is that Leonardo de Caprio and Steven seagal lovechild? Oh nvm it can't be, seagal is older than 25 years old.
"Once again, the men's rights community has come so close to realizing that their real problem is the restrictive nature of old-fashioned gender roles. 'Redefining masculinity' can be a helpful idea for many people, but if you're redefining it as a hierarchy of tough wolf guys versus incels, it's probably time to go back to the drawing board," Baker-Whitelaw added.
Dr. Leonor Gonçalves, who is a Research Associate in Neuroscience, Physiology, and Pharmacology at the University College London, would probably agree with Baker-Whitelaw.
"We can wish to hold on to the past and choose to emulate the societal structure of ancient animals," she wrote. "But the fact [some animals] have survived for so long without changing is a reflection of how well they are adapted to their environment – and how little this has changed."
At least the company saved the few dollars they spent on paying him! /s
"Human ancestors have left the ocean, developed lungs, vocal cords and many things in between. We have explored continents, built flying machines and some of us even live outside the Earth. We crave change and challenge. We also try to make our societies more fair and balanced and aspire to make humanity better and more advanced," Gonçalves continued.
"What's more, the animal kingdom is full of examples of hierarchies, with the highest level of organization observed in insects ... In the world of bees, the queen is much larger than the males and the only fertile female. She lays all the eggs in the colony after being fertilized by several males. After [the] breeding season, the males are driven out of the colony and die. If we chose to organize society in this 'natural' way, would we be okay with that?" she wondered.
From what we've learned about her, I wouldn't be surprised if she wasn't discriminated against for the gay thing as much as for being an absolute d******d
He ended up going to the University of Alabama on a full academic ride, if anyone is wondering.
But while categorizing men as a pack of wolves and labeling them with Greek symbols might be archaic (or even dumb), the beauty of such loose definitions is that you can bend them in whatever way you want — there's no academic institution safeguarding it. And judging by its content, the Twitter account 'Sigma Male Activity' is painting a pretty inspiring picture of sigmas.

I'm the type of person that reads the entire thing just so I know how I'm destroying my life when I click agree
I'm more surprised strip clubs have TVs to be honest. If I were a stripper giving it all and my clients were watching flapjack I'd get a bit offended
Millionaire in Baht. Probably made about $5000 US. Still really cool!
So.... I'm confused. There seems to be no one definition of "Sigma Male". Some of these are men who have gone out of their way to do something nice for other people, while others have gone out of their way to be complete See You Next Tuesdays to other people. Is that the definition? To go out of your way to do *something* that affects others in some way, either positive or negative?
I was just thinking that precise same thing. Some of these posts were wholesome and made me smile but others just made me sad or angry
Load More Replies...Can we stop perpetuating this "[insert Greek letter here] male" nonsense already, please?
I don't want to be an Alpha male, I just want to be a Beta person.
Load More Replies...Is "Sigma male" what we are calling a******s these days? Some of these are funny. Some of these are nice. A LOT of these are just being mean for no reason.
"Sigma Male" is the term former "Alpha Males" use now to describe themselves. That's partially because they realised they get ridiculed for calling themselves "Alpha Males", but mostly because they realised, that they don't fit the stereotype "Alpha Male", because they are neither leaders, womanisers nor extrovert. Those lacking this minimum amount of introspection still call themselves "Alpha Males". The term usually is en vogue in right wing and incel circles, so it is a bit bewildering to see it on bored panda.
Load More Replies...Stop trying to make "sigma male" a thing. None of this alpha-beta-sigma s**t is real, it's based on bad science in a different species that was repudiated by the original researcher.
I don't know what this was supposed to be. As the posts got more and more ridiculous I started looking them up and easily found that they were memes or just outright lies/misunderstandings. And pick a theme - "sigma male" can be good or bad, but not both.
Hey, Bored Panda: I’m asking nicely that you not do another “sigma male” article; it looks as if you don’t know the definition of the term and neither do we, as your article is all over the danged place. Let’s stick to animals, history, cool photos, and “Am I the b******e?”-type things. We can understand (and enjoy) those. Thanks! 💋
So, erm, can anyone pleae explain the chiselled dude meme? Does it mean "things that never happened" because the dude looks to unreal(alistic)?
its a meme that's meant to represent the pinnacle of *manliness*, its slowly been adapted to show *kingly behaviour* which is just another way of saying being a decent human being. its pretty low internet humor tbh
Load More Replies...For those asking, Sigma male is a way for incel losers to pretend they're unique and special. Don't google it, and for sure don't search it on YouTube. The algorithm will wreck you.
I don't know. I think people in general are more complex and don't always fit neatly into the category of the month.
Less than half of these could be described as "sigma male" (based on the definition of "generally describing a man who is independent, introspective, and does not conform to societal norms")... what a waste

Whoever compiled this list has 0 understanding of what a sigma is. I would rate a lot of these as douche.
Literally defined 'sigma male' in the first sentence, then just...didn't use it when choosing posts?
