If you're the type of person who snaps a handful of selfies but finds them all awkward, you could be doing it incorrectly!
Recently a challenge on TikTok has been attracting millions of views: users record short videos showing how important the angle of the cell phone camera can be when taking a selfie and the results are impressive!
Its essence is quite basic, but intriguing. Participants demonstrate how they might seem if they extended their hand with the phone as photos were taken of them, zooming in on their faces. The transformations are amazing! When the geometry of the face is aligned, it does look like 2 similar yet different people.

Ooh gf that is stunning. Straight up stopped breathing she is really pretty
It's a struggle to look stunning while looking in the mirror and then realize you don't look like that when trying to snap a quick selfie. Good news, TikTokers figured out a way to snap perfect selfies all the time. With a mobile phone and understanding of how to use it, you can take selfies that accurately represent your look.
He's quite open about the amount of work he and his partner have got done on them.... They bear zero resemblance to their earlier selves....
The TikTok community has introduced us to many trends, yet, this one is one of the most popular ones that reached millions of likes on the platform. With such partisipation, we wanted to share with you the magic of correctly taking a selfie, so you would always look your best.
The selfie camera (front) usually has wider angle lens. That's how you end up as blobfish.
On TikTok, people used a filter to zoom in on their faces while stepping back to reveal how they appear to others in comparison to how they used to see themselves through the front camera. And the results are surprising; aligned faces look slightly different than taking a selfie the regular way!

she looks like the protagonist of a dystopian ya novel. in the best way

I love her two different eyebrows. Really. It's cool, unique and refreshing unconforming. Aaaand that she doesn't smear her pretty face full of "Barbie girl make up" plus fake eye lashes. (F, 44, here)
I know red heads get a lot of hate, but it's honestly (in my opinion) a gorgeous hair colour
OMG THEY’RE SO PRETTYYY they almost look like a cartoon character!
The fringe is giving me "look mom I just gave myself bangs!" vibes
that contour of this person's cheekbones has me dead. i cant i just cant
Are people so used to taking pictures of their faces on their phones, that they can't tell the difference from what they see in a mirror?
Mirrors can also distort your face and figure. I have a mirror on my wall that makes me look 20 lbs heavier than the mirror in the other room. When I walk by it I can see myself all wavy like I'm in a funhouse. Some clothing retailers put "slimming mirrors" in the change rooms to make it look like the clothes look better on you and fit you better than they actually do.
Load More Replies...Honestly, I prefer that over people obsessed with celebrities. At least they're personally familiar with themselves.
Load More Replies...Do the left one is with the front camera, and the right ones are with filters? Most of them have barbie like skin.
Totally. Many of them have the exact same face shape. This post was a collection of filtered photos and lies.
Load More Replies...I feel like most people know this, but in case you don't, this difference is just a difference in camera lenses. It's not filters. A longer lens flattens an image and a shorter one makes a kind of fish eye effect. Human eyes are closest to a 50mm lens.
I don't think it ever explained clearly so thank you. The first pics are taken with how you would normally hold the phone but the second are turning the phone around to the back to take your own picture?
Load More Replies...No matter which way I do it I'm still not photogenic. That said, I'll keep with not taking selfies and continue to load my phone memory with pics of my dogs and nephew
I don't get this article at all. They're saying, "this is me close up and this is me backed up a little"? People don't have their faces so close to the camera either!
all these people are gorgeous. i did this, you can see my disappointment in the video
So...good looking people getting more good looking when they take the filters away?! Great! Next I will go look at how people who win the lottery spend all of their money. Then I will go look at how people who don't have to work anymore spend all of their time. And THEN I am going to look at people making delicious food that is not available to me. Great fun....Great fun.....
As someone with even a basic grasp of camera lenses, in addition to having a face for radio, means I've taken about two selfies in my life, and knew what to expect. Then again with the obsession with filtering yourself into oblivion, I imagine the more elfin "all cheekbones, no jaw" ones on the left are what they themselves prefer.
Some people overuse filters and some don't use them at all. Everyone doesn't prefer the one on the left, you just made that up.
Load More Replies...Before : bad angle, light. After : photos with more filter then tbe before picture. 🙄
I like the ones on the left better in most cases! They look like they have cute baby faces.
Why are all the ones on the left visibly lower resolution? Edit: Alright, I just read the description at the top, They just hold the camera further from themselves and then they zoom in to crop the image.
Cause you can't use a longer lens or zoom with the front facing camera. Which is part of the point. The front camera is lower quality and gives a distorted version of you.
Load More Replies...Most of them have used filters for the "after", so none of them look like them for real. LOL
My camera doesn't let me zoom in on a selfie --- unless I'm doing it all wrong.
Yes... selfie cameras are quite wide-angle, which distorts the image. This is why ~80-100mm lenses are used for portraits, it gives a mostly natural perspective at a size of a face.
What a weird coincidence that none of these people have ever seen themselves in a mirror and are all surprised that they don't look like in a selfie.
It makes you wonder how some people even recognise eachother from apps when photos are so heavily filtered. They would make Freddie Kruger look handsome
