I think, in every country, taking care of war veterans and their families when they need help should be considered a given. If we’re sending people to the hell that is war, it’s our damn responsibility to take care of the human consequences of that war. I think helping vets should be considered a part of the cost waging war. Shame on politicians -in any country- who use the soldiers when it suits them, and then kick vets to the curb when they’re not ‘useful’ anymore.

But, in many Red states you can have a kid as young as 10 regardless of the circumstances. Also, if it is after 6 weeks or 1864 when you find out, you are really S.O.L. Another way of saying it is, "Conservatives did all that." At the time, the Democratic Party was the conservative party in America, and the Republicans were the progressives. Veteran homeschool mom here. Yes, we can teach our kids. My oldest got her high school diploma at 16 and got her masters degree at 22. 23 now and working on her PhD while doing adjunct work at a county college. Working in public affairs and community development. Middle finished high school at 17, she's 20 now and has two semesters before she gets her bachelor's in biology. Plans to pursue a masters after that. Youngest is 15 and this past week alone has been cast as second lead in a production of High School Musical, took fourth place in a statewide knowledge bowl, finished her geometry class, designed and taught a class at the animal shelter (where she volunteers) for pre-k students, and worked on a video game she's been coding from scratch with two of her close friends. Fun little tidbit: the Democratic party prior to 1964 was primarily populated by the Republican party's current and recent members. A certain civil rights act really got under the skin of an awful lot of very hateful people, and so they decided not to stay with a party that had made it happen. Similar diasporas have happened from Democrat to Republican and back again in the past, always due to one of the parties deciding to focus on human rights over maintaining empowerment of the heterosexual white man.
