Meet Mork, A Puppy That Was Saved From A Slaughterhouse And Looks Like Baby Yoda
Most people love cute animals. It’s an unwritten internet law that no one ever questions - especially when presented with the cutest cat memes and puppy pics!
Many people are also big fans of the Star Wars franchise. Even those who have never seen the movies are aware of one meme that took internet by storm just last year. Baby Yoda, yep!
What if we told you that we found someone who can tick both boxes? Combine a cute puppy and Star Wars...and you get Mork! Here's a doggy that people can’t help but compare to Baby Yoda. And we can definitely see the resemblance. Mork is so popular, he already has 118K followers on Instagram, but his story is even more amazing!
Mork was rescued from the meat trade in China by an organization called Harbin SHS . He was so weak he had to be hospitalized immediately, and nearly died. Thankfully, he pulled through. and when he was healthy enough, Mork was brought to the USA by Road Dogs & Rescue - .and adopted by the founder - Nikki Carvey.
Bored Panda reached out to Carvey for more information. 'Mork is a survivor," she said. "He was rescued, along with a bunch of other dogs, from a meat truck in China, by Harbin SHS. Sadly, some people still think it is cool to eat dogs there, and many unwanted dogs are sold to the meat trade,'.

Carvey praised the women who run Harbin SHS and the thousands of lives they save. They focus on getting the dogs healthy, then partner with various rescues to get them homes in the US. Road Dogs is one of those rescues. 'So far we have found loving homes for over 50 dogs. Including Mork! As soon as I his photo, I knew that he was meant to come to me.'
Still, it's been a long and arduous process for Mork since he was first rescued in October last year. He suffers from Irritable Bowel Disorder (IBD) and was very underweight when he arrived from China - weighing only 12.4 lbs. He also has a bunch of congenital issues because of bad breeding - eg heart, breathing, jaw malformation. But Carvey is optimistic. 'The good news is that he has now gained 5lbs and we are working with various specialists to get him to be the best Mork he can be.' His goal weight is about 20lbs, and to help him get there, she is trying out various home cooked diets and supplements.
Baby Yoda? Hell no - he looks like The Fly creature at the final scene. I`m happy about that little dude but people should stop breed such dogs - which will suffer from respiratory problems and of a bouquet of genetic deceases.
We also asked about Mork's life now and his personality. 'He is sweet and friendly but still learning about love. His favourite thing is to just sit in the sunshine.' According to Carvey, the public's reaction to Mork has been incredible. "The whole Baby Yoda comparison is fun, and he brings a lot of joy. I feel his story touches people’s hearts and we’ve had some beautiful messages from individuals who are struggling, who say that he makes them smile and inspires them,"
Carvey also offered some insight on the message they are trying to spread: "The world can be a dark place sometimes, so if this little dog can shine some light, that’s a wonderful thing! Mork can also help raise awareness about the meat trade and adoption. The most amazing dogs can be found in shelters and rescues. ".
Some have urged Carvey to run a DNA test to find out what breed Mork is. However, she refuses. Her concern is that people might try and breed a dog just to try and look like him, with no regard to all the health issues that come with it.
So, what's next for Mork? Well, first he needs to get fully healthy. After that, Carvey wants to train him as a therapy dog to visit nursing homes and hospitals, where she hopes he can bring joy and help people heal. She smiled in conclusion. ''His mission is to share love and wonder!"
China and its meat trade (illegal or otherwise) anger and depress me at the same time. Just because something moves does not mean that you can eat it. Look at the current mess it got itself and the world into by eating weird things and not taking proper hygienic precautions. Have the people not learned anything from SARS fifteen years ago? The way they treat animals is appalling. Thank you for allowing me to rant. On a brighter note, Yoda Mork is adorable and may he live a long and happy life with this mates.
Also american people eat cow testicles... and...? So watch what you call weird.
Load More Replies...I follow the group who rescued him on Instagram. Those poor girls see some truly horrendous things. They're strong as hell though and have done truly remarkable work. They refused to leave China during the outbreak because the dogs, who are still waiting for new homes, would have starved. They've had a very difficult time securing food though, for themselves and the dogs, and I'm extremely worried about them.
