How to successfully remove an abandoned fishing net with over 250 kg in weight and 100m in length.
The green cotton nets are very hard to remove from the corals they get strongly entangled into branching corals also because it just doesn’t rip. We use scissors rather than knives due to they are more gentle to the coral than knives also you can get easier into the branching coral as they are smaller than knives. Cutting the abandoned net out of the branching corals is a monumental slow work. 6 divers working for 4h. So 24h work in total.
If left on the Reef fish corals and other Marine life can post entangle into it and die of choking or starving to death. That’s why it’s so important to remove the abandoned net. Poseidon Dive Center does most Marine Life Conservation work in the Ao Nang Province of Krabi.
